First, at what distance can a grenadier throw is grenade, compared to the range of a musket? Giving them a bombard rating seems highly unreallistic to me. I prefer to give a high attack rating to Grenadiers.
Second, the grenades were not used for a very long period of time actually. Grenadiers kept the name, but not the weapon.
In my mod, Grenadier and Musketeer are two different lines.
Harquebuse comes with Fire arms, then Musket (and pikes) with Renaissance tactics, then Musketeer with Regimental Organization, then Fusillier with National Army, and then Riflemen with Military Tradition.
Grenadier comes with Assault troop (it requires explosives), and then upgrade to Guard (who also comes with National Army), and much later then can be upgraded to Engineer.
I don't think we should go down to the details of matchlock of flintlock, and use more general concept for the techs, but you can still include in the civilopedia references to matchlock and flintlock when explaining for instance what lead to Renaissance tactis.
