Civ III allowed you to take any one of the existing civs and customize it with your own civilization and leader names.

I searched and found some interesting suggestions regarding completely customizable civs but I believe that it would take another year in blancing the game if that were made possible.

One suggestion I really liked was to have some generic animated diplomacy heads for the customizable civs.

So my Ideal customization option would be:
  • Select from any of the existing premade civ benifit packages.
  • Custom Civ name and leader name.
  • A variety of Male and Female generic animated heads to choose from.
  • Choice of civ teritory color indicator.
  • A small variety of flags to choose from as unit identification.

All of which would translate as you see it to others in Multiplayer Online matches.

A bit more work... But as I see it the art department over there is doing a rather quick job of things anyhow... (It's good, just not great)

This would help with those who want another civ added that will NEVER make the shortlist.

Problem being Firaxis may not include this feature as it would hinder possible expansion sales.

Thoughts?

Wow, there's some guys at Firaxis working 80+ hour weeks who'll be ticked at this one.

:P

I did say it's "GOOD"

My point there is that it's not gonna take that guy another 80 hour week to throw this extra content in.

You're right, I think it'll take quite a bit more than that.

With the Maya, 3D studio max experience I have myself... (Very limited and self tought) I can tell you that it wouldn't take a LOT of effort.

The artists already have the framework for everything in the game done up... Tweaking already existing assets to make them look different is childs play... Heck! Give me the current assets and I'll have 5 generic looking leader heads for you tonight!

*Picks up thread and puts it back on track*

If you are that fast why aren't you doing it for a living? You would be faster than most of the pros I know.

Back on track, I think this is a good idea, I just differ on how long it would take to implement.

If any of you have played stars!. I think it would be cool to have a civ type thing like that. Man... I spend forever on that game.

Decently balanced.

Anyways as for expansion. New worlds. New units. New traits to customise the civ with, etc... they can find something I am sure.

Anywas an option to build like Stars! if you wished would be quite fun.. and would definately haul me all the way in, and perhaps buying immediately rather then waiting a while in the hope prices will go down(ain't I cheap ).

For those who haven't played stars! it works something like this.

On the first screen you pick a primary trait(it is the overall definition.. an example is the warmonger trait. excellent on the offensive, higher weapon tech to start, cheaper weapons... nearly no defense etc.) then on the second screen you can pick your secondary traits. Such as generalized research(you research a bit of everything at the same time) or regenerating sheilds(40% stronger and regen 10% each round of battle.. however armor is 50% weaker) etc... Third screen was habitable areas... prolly not neccesary in civ since the traits would likely take care of that. Fourth screen was how your economy worked, and how productive your colonists were. The last screen was tech. You could take some techs at 75% more cost and some at 25% less cost.

The was all balanced by a point system. Each trait costed some points or gave points if it hurt you. As well as increasing tech cost could give you points. The goal.. to creat a balanced race capable of dominating the universe. Quite fun. :crazyeye:

And I think Civ could benifit from something similar(preferbly more complex.. Stars! is simple and has some *obvious* better choices then others).

Perhaps there would be an attribute points system like in Empire Earth, where you are given a certain number of points at the start of a (custom) game, which you can spend on civilization bonuses.
