The Deity Challenge Line-up #32 - England

Spoiler :
The imagination runs wild. China cap is coastal... Bribe and whack the culture leaders.

Oh, the hidden site will prolly fill your ideology tree for you.

I will move the warrior upstream first, but unless this the 1-in-100 map that reveals a natural wonder, SIP it is.

Spoiler :
LOL, called that! SIP might have been better, but I felt obligated.

I will try HCA first, but I am quite terrible at that.

It went poorly, I could not get Venice until XBs, lost my cap to Arabia about turn 300.

I am trying again 4-city Tradition/Rationalism/Order, but again going way too slow...

OK going again for CV and cheating.

Spoiler :
Warrior bee-lines for Eldorado. 500G on T5, buy worker. T10 buy Granary. AI is pretty much F***ed. But then I try for Stone Henge and fail twice in a row! I know Pacal is in game, but come on its like turn 28 and I have 2 workers chopping.

RAGE!

If I go again, I might try for Parthenon.

Where is Skilldorado? I wanna cheat, too. When I get to this game a month from now.

I'm honestly baffled by this map:

Spoiler :

Despite playing by the book, allying CSs, trading lux for lux, building happiness stuff, I could never break off the happiness, the entire game I simply couldn't find enough sources. Failed with 6 cities and failed with 5 cities. So I guess it's 4 cities then.

Option 2 would be genocide, but I wonder what would be easier to pull off more efficient, Liberty CB rush or training Honor archers until LBs. I'm assuming it's beeline to Navigation then, mass SotLs and then swing back to artillery and hope no more science is needed.

I wish I didn't suck at this game this much

My first Deity Domination Victory! I know the map is supposed to be easy but I'm still pretty happy.

Congrats! I will probably retry my HCA game, inspired by you and Budweiser. I am just today taking a look at people's spoilers.

I think you are better player than me, but I can spot a few things.

Spoiler :
From your screen shots, you passed on settling Old Faithful. That is 2:c5happy: in your borders. Did you found? Shrine before Monument and Earth Mother will get you a religion. If you miss all the buildings you can get :c5happy: from Shrines or Temples or Gardens. I was able to monopolize all the salt spots with just 4 cities, In my Tradition game I wasn't really tempted to put down a fifth city (but my cap was inland on Old Faithful). Also, scout more, just on principle -- but each NW is another happy, plus the CS gifts.

Even if I did found, it would have negated by hordes of prophets anyway. I had mosques and pagodas but it wasn't enough. Never did a single map stump me that much

Spoiler :

There was a grand total of 0 city states on the other side of the map, Genghis took care of them

This is a good map for people who have given up founding out of frustration. You can (and should) get all the faith buildings you can from neighbors. Just go with the flow until your third GPr (which will be late, because you have been spending faith on buildings). Once most (if not all) of the GPr spam has passed, use your third GPr to recover your religion mid-game in your core cities for even more happy (plus gold from Tithe).

I apologize for criticizing your scouting. You are doing fine on the screenie attached to this post:
edit: through 152 turns, a bit behind Olodune but with 1 city less

Your earlier shot seemed to have a lot of fog in it, but you said as much:
Alright, third restart and this time it's looking good: 5 city tradition this time, 4 + 1 after NC, obviously the one on the west, newly founded and fairly crap ... I ALWAYS seem to undervalue scouting

My second play, which I have not finished yet, I got to Ideologies first and picked Order. Everyone else went Freedom! I held out until I got the free Scientist and Engineer and then switched. No happy problems after that!

T56 Give peace a chance?

Spoiler :
Finally started playing this one, and am recording an ultra-slow LP. I'm going Peaceful Tall, which might surprise some people, but I'm up for something different for a change. Map looks fun as far as religion is concerned. I might try some Machiavellian manipulations to help one civ's religion take over so I can have the shared religion bonus and try for a CV; or, I might try for a Frigate/Cannon/Artillery Domination; or, XCOMs; or Diplomacy. Whichever I feel like. ;)

So far I have 3 cities with Granaries and am starting on the Libraries. Have enough to rush buy one and begin NC around 67, which should take 10 turns, so a nice earlyish one. After that, 1-2 more settler, units to defend and explore, and growth, growth, growth...

OK going again for CV and cheating.

I plan to cheat on my next run through! SIP and then scout first in BO. Do you think I need to use the warrior or do you think scout can there in time?

I am even worse at CV than I am with Dom, so I will be interested to learn if you think this game good for peaceful CV. How does shared religion help with CV? In general, I think getting AI to adopt your religion is tough, and even having played it, I cannot tell if this map makes such a goal harder or easier?

Nice! Please share your BO or other details. I did not come any where close to that!

Spoiler :

I was first on turn 27 (yep!) so it should be fine to wait for the Scout. Who knows how Harun decides to scout though.

Seems you know very little about this game

...it should be fine to wait for the Scout.

Thanks, that relieves my conscience then!
Spoiler :
I would not normally move my warrior through all those hills and jungle. I like to follow the coast with my scouts, so I might have done that on this map. 500 gold is such a huge perk!

I'm not entirely sure whether I'll take a stab at it yet. But if I do, I'll include full write-up AS WELL AS making a slow, methodical CV. So far it looks OK. We have two coastal cities and farmable tiles.

How does shared religion help with CV?

If you have the same religion as an AI, you get a boost to your tourism.

I know enough to know when I want to take a chance.

It's as good a deity map to gamble on as I have had since the Halloween patch. Good for you!

But then I try for Stone Henge and fail twice in a row! ...but come on its like turn 28 and I have 2 workers chopping.

SH goes about then in most my games! The only thing I can think to suggest is to take advantage of the cheating AI (which is spying on you, and loves sticking you with wonder fail gold): time your chops to end on the same turn late in your SH build. I might try this myself!

Speaking of gambling: Is the dirt strong enough to warrant opening Piety? I would love to enhance before some AI even have a pantheon. I know I hate it when an AI does that to me!

T138 Update

Spoiler :
Four parts of LP recorded. Will be at a client's office tomorrow where I can hopefully upload at least a part or two using their net connection (mine is slow).

I echo the words of a previous poster who said they were stumped by this map. It's quite tough as far as Deity maps go, I'd say. There is no obvious VC. I've given up on CV cuz there are quite a few wonderwhores, especially Wu who now has 10 wonders :D Late game domination might be possible, but in all honesty, I'm bored by the idea of that. Ditto SV. Fast as poss DiploV could be the best option here. We'll see. More in a few days.

There definitely is room for 5, maybe 6 cities on this map but even with the happiness sorted, cargo ships running around and maritime allies pumping extra food, I still couldn't grow fast enough and even though I had Secularism on t134, I only had ST on 156 and Plastics around 200. It is however ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY to have world ideology and have all guilds early. Even with all that I was at -20 for pressure (net -4) very briefly.

I have no idea how I managed to score a significantly faster SV on the Russia map
