The farm crash bug

Hey Hiram, try using this:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=21518

That's the farm-replace-model thing I made, if you are using that and still experiece the crash, its not a Farm-Crash, if not, then there are some chances it is.

Thanks, I was wondering if you had a standalone version somewhere.

I think my crash may have been spy related (as a result of the patch and its issues, all of my civs were working fine prior). It always occurs in the same place whereas with a far crash I could sometimes reload and get around it.

Loaded up the save again and got the same crash. Where do I find the minidump?

I had a look at net_message_debug and this was the last few commands that went through:

Spoiler :
[2346.910] DBG: UpdateMoves() : player 18 Hiawatha running AutoMission (NO_MISSIONAI) on Caravan id=458778
[2346.910] DBG: CheckPlayerTurnDeactivate() : auto-moves complete for Hiawatha
[2346.910] DBG: changeNumGameTurnActive(-1) m_iNumActive=0 : setTurnActive() for player Hiawatha
[2346.910] DBG: changeNumGameTurnActive(1) m_iNumActive=1 : setTurnActive() for player 19 TXT_KEY_KINGDOM_OF_JERUSALEM_LS_MOD_BALDWIN_IV_DESC

In the same folder as the Civ 5 EXE.

Got it. Here it is.

That is the default Firaxis dump, which is useless for us as we don't have the symbols for the base DLL (only ones we build ourselves). If the minidump DLL was loaded then it should be CvMinidump.dmp, but it wasn't loaded according to VS. This behavior overrides the default Firaxis dumps (which are used for Steam error reporting, however I assume firaxis doesn't want to know about mod crashes for the most part).

I mustn't have installed the dll properly. However, I just did a test involving building various improvements over existing farms so I'm pretty sure the farm bug is actually dead. I reckon my crash was due to improper loading of spy names resulting from the post-patch mod text issues. It behaved exactly as that crash did when I experienced it in the past.

That would corroborate what I found upon further inspection, which is that the DLL being used was the unmodded one and the crash was happening in it, and not in the EXE.

The "farm crash bug" as described in initial posts no longer exists. You can safely enable "Reload Landmark System" and replace farms with other improvements without CTD.

This has opened up the field of resource and improvement modding for the first time since the game was released.

The crash, yes. The late-game, many revealed tiles with farms causing GPU slow downs and map-drop-out artefacts, no.

Never bought Civ VI - my life took a turn for the better :) Still playing Civ V/BE occasionally, and even less occasionally writing mods for Civ V (I have a number of ideas, just not the time!) Trying to keep in the Civ V modding groove by reading / posting in these forums. It's surprising me just how much I've forgotten!

What a wholesome reply. Life took turn for the better? :hug: That's awesome! I'm interested in so many things...and still trying to figure it out here. Can't wait seeing your ideas come to life when you find time. :love:

so if i replaced farms artwork with a generic house with a field, this should resolve the issues?

Or you could search the forums for several mods that did that ;)

Not to mention the fact, WHoward's mod really beautifies the map... I was surprised just how good the map looked when this mod is enabled.

A twofer...
