Well, I was attacked this evening. My first time. It wasn't pretty.

It was during the medieval age, and I was playing as Frederick of the Germans, making massive culture, with lots of Great Leaders. I was lagging behind in military might, but I didn't think THAT much, as I believe the average men in the military for all civs was something like 300'000, while mine was around 200'000.

I had been encroaching upon Tokugawa's territory for awhile, and his relations with me reflected his dislike of this. I must have REALLY pissed him off when I founded Frankfurt and cut his country effectively in half. I finally got a horse resource near his border, and also a copper resource near his border, as well. Opposite sides of his country, these were at.

Well, I guess I was too busy courting the real big powers (Russia and Spain) as I was on friendly terms with them, and forming a bloc. TGokugawa was in last place, so I didn't think much of our bad relations.

Then, all of a sudden, he invades me with horse archers. I didn't think this was trouble at all. What can a few little horse archers do? Well, I found out, a lot. Although his army was small, he done everything right with it. he went straight for my copper and horses. After destroying both of these, he went STRAIGHT into the heart of my nation, straight for Berlin (the cultural capital of the world, the greatest city of the world, with two wonders already, and CAPTURED it. I plummeted in the rankings, as he destroyed ALL of the culture there.

I quit.

I'll never underestimate the AI again. Even if they ARE in last place out of seven civs and I'm in third.

I was third as well when Catherine invaded me (she was third from the bottom of the list). She moved a bunch of troops halfway across the world to exact revenge upon me for "refusing to aid her during wartime."

Didn't pan out to much, actually. She only had enough troops to plunder three squares and they were evicted after two turns. I eventually convinced her to sue for peace after putting several galleons full of troops at the steps to her capital. :D

I really like the way the AI decides to go to war in this game. It doesn't seem very 'random' anymore. Maybe it's because I can SEE why they're angry or happy with me this go around.

Oh, and everytime I've played thus far, Catherine has always been very easy-going with me. We've been allies every time.

Yep, the AI puts up a good fight in this game.

My last game I am in second place even with a bad starting spot and only five cities. But the cities were awesome! So even with the fewer cities I am keeping up with the big guys. The AI's were fighting each other and pretty much leaving me alone although I hadn't developed great relations with any of them (I really don't think that deters them from attacking you if you are weak though). I had a decent military when Japan attacks...

I am going to have to learn how to fight. I am getting wasted by the AI when I feel I should be winning.
