The Gamecube Thread

I am practicing. I'm doing a time trial for each one a few times, just to learn the courses. I have Sherbert Land down, pretty much, and same with Mushroom city. Yoshi's Circuit is the hardest for me - so many turns! - but I LOVE DK Mountain! I learned to hug the corners on the rock mountain the first time I did that, simply because I was falling downhill.

BTW, what is Viewtiful Joe about? What type of game is it? I've heard its good, that's it.

Yeah, I love DK Mountain too. :) And yeah, Yoshi's circuit was the hardest one for me too.

It's a sidescrolling platform beat-em up. With slow-motion and such techniques. Wonderful graphics :)

And real fun. Pretty hard on the Adult setting at times.

I'm awful at time trials, I just tried some at Baby Park, and I couldn't even get under 1:26 :( The Mini Turbos don't help me at ALL, in fact, I think it actually makes me go SLOWER. I must really suck at the powersliding thing or something.

Yoshi's Circuit is my least favorite of the Star Cups. I know two shortcuts, but both require boost mushrooms and are risky. BTW, Luigi Circuit is my least favorite of Mushroom Cup (too boring), Waluigi Stadium least favorite of Flower cup (stupid mud), and Dino Dino Park least favorite of Special Cup, since it has NO connection with Mario whatsoever (I think they put it in to give the Diddy Kong Racing feel) but I don't really hate any of the courses.

Viewtiful Joe is a really good game that's hard to explain. Back at E3, I wasn't interested in it at all, but then I tried out the demo, and I was amazed. Side-scrolling button-mashing action done well, as well as the ability to slow/speed up time temporarily to do things you couldn't in normal time. For example, in slow time, you can dodge or even hit bullets back. The game gets crazy hard, though. I'm only on Episode 5 of adult

I find Mini Turbos DO make you go slower, at least at Baby Park. Trying to get them made my slide WAY too long. At Baby Park my strategy was to stay as close inside as possible and slide as early as possible, sliding as close to the inner rail as I could, not trying for a Mini Turbo. :) But we can talk about this in the thread. ;)

@ Silverflame: You went to E3?

Did I say that? I meant back during E3 when they were releasing trailers and stuff.

Besides, I think you have to be above 18 to enter E3 unless you have "connections" or something

E3 is just for people in the industry.

Btw, powerslides need to be done well at batby park for you to gain speed from them.

Usually powerslides do increase your speed. Quite a lot too. Especially if done fast and many in some curves. (You can't do so many in Baby Park though ;))

Btw, Baby park is hilarously funny in MP :D

Looking at GameFAQs I see that, to get Mirror Mode, you need to beat the All Cup tour on 150cc.

Damn! That's hard...and time-consuming!

I just bought a game cube, 2 games, mem card, and 2 controllers (1 wireless) for 110$ Canadian. Pretty good.

I can't when perfect dark 2 comes out for game cube next year.

Uh... Perfect Dark 2 won't come out for gamecube. It's supposed to come out on xbox. Although I seriously doubt it will ever come out, since it's just a rumor.

I did that today, playing Co-op with my sister. We sort of lucked out though, because there were two other main competing CPUs instead of just one (we only got like 128 points or something)

Double Dash!! is definately on my christmas list!

BTW, is Fire Emblem better than AW2 or FFTA?

I am one of the few defenders of FFTA's storyline, one of the few to look past the "kiddiness" of it and to see the true meaning of it, and was quite moved by it.

However, I must say that Fire Emblem is better. Maybe because Fire Emblem is more of a STRATEGYrpg and FFTA is more like a strategyRPG, and we're mostly strategy fans here, but whatever. There's virtually no customization in Fire Emblem, but every character has a face, a personality, and a reason for joining your group. Then you can have characters have support conversations with each other (and play a bit of matchmaker ;)) And you can't really cheat death in Fire Emblem, but in FFTA the only place a person can die for good is the Jadgs, but even then I could use a pheonix down or something.

But is it better than Advance Wars? I truthfuly don't know. They have very similar gameplay mechanics (both made by Intelligent Systems), but AW has more in the way of masses. So no idea on this...yet.

I like the FFTA story too - reminiscent of the great anime classics.

Would be interesting to see how Marche (or whatever he's named in your game) convince the rest to return to the real world, particularly if he himself is still semi-convinced...

I'm seriously considering setting this up.

It looks awesome. Anyone else here interested? All it costs is $35 to get the Broadband Adaptor and then your broadband connection. If enough people here join, we could set up a CFC Clan to play Mario Kart or any other games that eventually get set up there. :)

The only problem is most of you are overseas, but on the other hand most of you probably have broadband.

EDIT: Now someone just has to lobby Nintendo to start making as many LAN-capable games as possible, and we could have our own, FREE version of Xbox Live. :D

I would play :D

Gotta buy myself a broadband adapter though.

Think of it, we could play 8 players!

Its only $35. I would defintely LOVE to start some kind of Mario Kart Clan here though. :D We wouldn't even need 8. We could just get a few (like 2 or more) and go beat other players.

IIRC you can link with up to 8. I know on a regular LAN you can have 8 different consoles hooked up, so I guess it would be no different through Warp Pipe. (It tricks GC into thinking its on a LAN.)

I have no idea how much that is, but I guess its alot.
