The Gamecube Thread

Well, I got one for Christmas, finally. Between the Zelda Collector's Edition and Metroid Prime, I'll probably have my hands full (no pun intended) for a while, especially as I also got C3C.

My only complaints are about the Zelda disc. First, it has "Promotional Disc--not for resale" written on it in great big letters. Second, I am having a lot of trouble controlling Link in the NES games. The digital D-pad is too small for my thumb (occcasionally making him go right when I want to go up), and the Analog one renders him impossible to control. But nostalgia is wonderful all the same.

Well, I have a Wavebird, and really like it. The lack of a rumble feature stinks, but is no big deal. How much does the Pelican model cost?

Remember that the Wavebird doesnt work with all games. For example, I only own 5 games, and mine doesnt work with one of those (FIFA Soccer 2003). Not really sure if thats a unique problem or if that translates into a ratio.

My current library(in order of best to worst, IMO):

F-Zero GX
Metroid Prime
LoZ:WW
SSB:M
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
Super Mario Sunshine(underrated)
Burnout 2(underrated)
Viewtiful Joe(overrated)
Sega Soccer Slam(obscure)
James Bond:Agent Under Fire
Crazy Taxi(my friend got it for me, I wouldn't waste money on it)

I can't believe none of you are talking about F-Zero GX. If you have it, and you aren't one of those pansies who think it's too hard(like Gamespy) then you know how great it is. It really has no flaws. Awesome speed, graphics, gameplay, replay value, challenge, lots of modes to keep it interesting, and you can make custom machines and decals, as well as AX linking. I have no idea why it had no GOTY nominations. Hard difficulty? Gamers these days all suck then, I am a pretty bad gamer, but I still beat most of it. (4 months in, still am trying to beat it.)

Anyway, Metroid Prime is so engaging, how can you not see that WillJ? I have currently 87%, but I've beaten the game twice. Cgannon, why haven't you tried the final boss? You don't need 100% before you do, just all the Artifacts. And the artifacts are actually really easy to get, since the game tells you what room to go to for each one. The boss you face after you have all the artifacts(not the final one) is really hard, but lots of fun. You'll see...

If you need any help with the game, Cgannon or WillJ, feel free to PM me.

Ive beat Metroid Prime 3 times with 100%, but 2 of those times on hard mode. I have to beat it again, however, for I forgot to scan part of a Boss, and that was the only thing I was missing for 100% all things scanned and all items picked up.

I've never heard of that before. What exactly is the problem?

Now that 2003 is over, I can start counting down to FF: Crystal Chronicles. Only two months to go...

[As the worst] Crazy Taxi(my friend got it for me, I wouldn't waste money on it)

I must agree with you, the GC Crazy Taxi added nothing new or exciting to the game. I thought of it as almost a clone of the Dreamcast version. And besides that, running through San Fransisco was no fun. :( The taxi can't send buses flying - they're like obstacles. You know regular cars? You hit them and they go flying? The buses actually roadblock you.

I got a GBA SP and Super Mario Advance 4 for Xmas. I'm planning to go buy Mario Party 5, Mario & Luigi, and Pac Man World 2 (mostly just for Pac Man vs, it's only $20), so I can finally order that Zelda disc.

What color for your GBASP Silverflame?

Also, anyone who has experience with Gamestop, is it worth it to sell games to them for GameBucks? I was at the San Jose GreatMall Gamestop and noticed the big bin of games that had been sold to them with the ad about Gamebucks.

Platinum, so it matches my GCN. But my old GBA is black, but that matches the cartrige, so yeah.

The only annoying thing about the SP is that there's no headphone jack, which becomes a problem for games like Fire Emblem where the music is part of the game. That and my hands get sweatier faster on the SP for some reason. Otherwise, it's great. :)

I know, you have to buy Nintendo's headphones. :( Either that or you can buy a GBASP kit that converts the Nintendo-only headphone jack into one where you can plug in regular headphones.

Definately an annoying feature, isn't it? It is, however, one way to sell Nintendo-headphones. ;)
Personally, I prefer playing Game Boy games on my GB Player. Lighting is too much of a hassle on a regular GBA, and I don't have an SP. Saves money on batteries, too.

I have all three now! A GBPlayer for when I'm at home, an SP for travel or light, and a regular one for headphones!

It's because I have a younger sister so we "share" the GBAs on trips.

Oh, I just got late some late Xmas gifts, Mario Party 5 (looks like I won't have to buy it then), Mario Golf and Pokemon Sapphire. :ack:
Whatever, might as well take it for a spin mostly for a trip down the old memory lane.

I'm considering geting a GB Player for my Cube; only trouble is you can't do the linking thing--I wouldn't be able to play Metroid after beating Fusion and Prime. Not that that would be my only motivation for getting those two games, of course.

There are other advantages to a GB Player; namely, not needing a GBA, and the larger screen. If you already have a GBA, you may as well get the cable. Otherwise, save yourself $100. Thinking about that makes the lack of a linking cable sting less.

Nintendo claims holiday season crown:

http://www.gamespot.com/all/news/news_6086536.html

On game front, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Metroid: Zero Mission come out on Feb. 9th. I will most likely reserve FF:C&C for the free GBA-GCN link cable, and buy Metroid at the same time.

Metroid Zero Mission (for GBA) sounds really good. Seeing how I loved Fusion but didn't enjoy Prime all that much, Zero Mission will be just right for me. It's 2-D, and starts right where the original Metroid left off (hence the reason why if you've seen the screenshots many look familiar). I heard you can shoot while hanging off ledges, and there's a morph-ball shineshark or something. Yup, I'm getting this for sure.

FF:C&C also sounds nice. I'm one of the few who sees the multiplayer connectivity as an add-on, not as part of the game. Annoying how people keep complaining about the connectivity though (VERY similar to how people reacted to cel-shaded Wind Waker)

There's many other games coming in 2004, and also there's Nintendo's "mystery product" whatever that may be.

How much is the GB player? I'm intrigued. Oh, and how does it deal with the larger screen? Does it look good or does it simply make ever pixel bigger (which would be ugly).

I'd be interested in a few GBA games if the GB player is cheap. Actually I think I'd like to get a GBA eventually...

Oh, and waht is this "mystery product" is it a game or waht?

There are 3 different filters.
