The Gamecube Thread

Gonna be a pain getting used to the new controller though. My SNES controllers spoil me with their easy-to-get-used-to, logical layout.

Definately get one. I think the current deal is a GCN the Zelda disc and Mario Kart for only $99.

I don't find any problems with the controller, although Soul Callibur II did put a strain on my wrists...

I hope I don't have to do anything crazy to register the two games I'm going to buy (Mario Kart and most likely Mario Party 5), otherwise I won't be able to get the disc. (It's annoying how I just subscribed to Nintendo Power a few months ago)

Well its a few months early for my renewal but for the disc I am sure as hell willing to renew early. $20 for 4 Zelda games? Sign me up (again).

About gamecube, my friend wants me to buy his gamecube. He is desperate for me to buy it. It is 99.99 in sotres here in Canda, and his price was 100$ for it. I get his gamecube, a memory card, 2 games, and 2 controllers (one wireless). I am going to buy it from him, and rediscover the joys or platform gaming :)

[dance] I GOT MARIO KART! [dance]

I'm thinking of getting Super Monkey Ball 2, Wind Waker, and Need for Speed Underground... Probably for Christmas (and my birthday--along with other presents, of course :D).

I've had it for 4 days now, and it's super fun to play in MP. :D

Stupid Europeans... getting Mario Kart three days before we Americans do. ;)

Skip Need for Speed and get Mario Kart. :p

WOAH, I never expected anyone here to tell me that...

;) Really though, the NFS series is better than the Mario Kart series, IMHO. It seems to have more lasting power (not to mention better graphics and sound, and I prefer the realism over the "funness" of Mario Kart).

Edit: But I'll probably get Mario Kart eventually. After the price goes down and I'm tired with Underground.

Well, if you want a SP game, and if you prefer Driving games over Party games maybe you are doing the right choice in buying NFS: Underground. But if you want a great MP game, you should buy Mario kart.

Btw, just bought 3 GBA games, Wario Ware inc, Mario & Luigi (the new rpg), and FF tactics.

F-Zero makes a better driver than NFS. And even if NFS does have better graphics, it doesn't run at a stable rate of 60fps (much worse than it sounds).

I just tried out F-Zero, and... meh. Too confusing and fast, not my kind of game.
Geez, you must hate NFS...

How'd you come to that conclusion? The previous versions have all had a nice, consistent fps (except for split screen, sometimes). At least in my experience.

 I spoke too soon on that. I played F-Zero a bit more and it grew on me. Of course, I had to return it to my friend, but it was a nice experience overall.

I don't "hate" NFS, I only hate EA :p

Most reviews stated that even though the graphics are great, they sorely miss the 60fps. I could find examples if you want, but only very few sites have actually reviewed it yet.

From what I can tell, it seems to me that F-Zero would be better, since although NFS has the graphics, F-Zero has graphics AND a steady frame rate. And there IS variety between tracks, unlike NFS. I don't know about you, but it seems to me the main turn-off for me in games is lack of variety. It's the reason why I hate Soul Callibur II now, because every stage is the same thing, and constant 2 vs. 2's just get really boring.

Oh, and I hate EA :p

Oh well, it seems my hatred of EA isn't a good enough reason, so go get NFS for Christmas then. ;)

If you got someone to play against that enjoys the game like you, it's great.

I'm probably the worst of the 3 players that play the game of my friends at the moment, but I'm getting better, and I don't get really embarrising streaks of games any longer like 10 losses in a row. :)
(it's more like 10-4 now ;))

I play as Taki btw, and I need no wide variety, I only need to improve my skills, know my enemies, and WIN! :D

Btw, we got 2 Soul Calibour Arcade sticks for PS2 with PS2 -> GC converters.

How dare you say that! EA is one of the best game makers in the world, at least IMNSHPCBO.*

Hmm. Well, unless it's choppy, I don't really mind. And I also don't care that much about graphics; forget I mentioned it. :p

No, not really, in my case at least. I played so much vs. mode of the original Soul Calibur I got bored of II fairly quickly, and all the opponents in the world wouldn't make a difference. Of course, if I hadn't played so much of the original (or better yet, never played it), I'd probably be addicted to the game.

*in my not so humble, probably corporately brainwashed opinion

EA is everything wrong with the gaming industry today. With the possible exception of Battlefield 1942, I cannot think of a single game by EA that I enjoy. Perhaps Goldeneye 2 will change this... ;)

Anyway, I spent like three hours today playing Mario Kart with my friends. Damn it was so fun! We even played Co-op in Grand Prix! And bo-bomb battlefield! Yes, Mario Kart IS all about the multiplayer. :)

BTW, I'm just joking about EA ruining the game industry. I just hate how because of it's mass sports games and other boring crap, it's the largest money making game company in the US.

EA is the major player in the gaming industry though, they have 20% of the market on their own.

Nintendo is a close runner up...

Hmm, wasn't Perfect Dark basically Goldeneye 2? Personally, I do agree that EA is grossly overrated. They just haven't ever come out with a game that really impresses me.

Just when I think my Cube isn't getting enough use. I think Rebel Strike for Christmas and Mario Kart for my birthday is in order.

I have a birthday coming up, too, and Rebel Strike's on the list. :goodjob:
