The Global Foyer

Thank you for all your feedback.
First of all, Cataphract, I do not take any offense. I appreciate your opinion and I like to hear many people's opinions of the letters I send so my letters can be a better expression of the team. That being said, several others including the King have disagreed with your opinion, and since I serve the King, that paragraph will remain.

I have made some changes requested and hopefully it will satisfy those in question.

Its Ok apart from the part that says technological supremacy... would change it to "remain as close as possible in technology"...remember we are 8 techs behind and droping more fast..

No problems here, carry on :)

Wow looking at the tech disparity...that imaginary future is getting further away :crazyeye:

Indeed....Sirious have done some really fast early teching by making quick libraries and running scientists, ignoring development alot...and that helped the alliance to a even bigger early start as they got currency and civil service alot faster than they would have done without Sirious going all out in research.

Of course having gold and fish means thay had more early commerce than anyone else, but they pushed it as well.

This is why this map is so bad for multiplayer and espessially with tech trading on, because with land contact you can punish a team for ignoring development and running libraries and scientists so early....in this map you cannot...and if you get the short stick of an alliance then there is not much you can do at all.

Pitty, because so much thought went into the map design but this crusial element was missed.

Another crusial element is the triple gems/gold/silver mines in starting spots which is such a bad idea...it makes teching so much easier and it multiplies the effects of big alliances...because early bureocracy means alot more tech than it would have meant without the gold mines...

Anyway I am just whinning now...but it is like that!

I've sent the message, hopefully I got the right email :P

I guess every time one of these games are played, we learn more about what to and what not to do for next time...

I agree, however with Civ 5 coming, the focus will be there and not civ 4, for democracy games.

Admittedly, I'm looking forward to what Civ5 may bring too :D
But I will stay loyal to this game and whatever happens I'll try to support it.

Of course any complaint our team sends up will be seen as whining by the other guys, thats how democracy games work in my experience. Im sure this map setup was seen as very elegant by its designer who will stoutly defend it against any criticism. A time ago in ACDG2 a great designer made a un-symmetric map that basically forced two players into a winning alliance and the other 4 into disruptive wars even the two winners agreed the setup was bad, and he argued to the end it was a great map. Moral of the story;there wont be any point in saying this kind of thing after the game, even though its true.

I imagine the disparity will kick in even harder when it comes to sharing GPs as they dont just get double the GP points we do, actually they get many times as many cause we are defending ourselves and cant run GP farms so easily.

I have to agree that this is not a good multiplayer map. This situation of 4 vs. 2 alliance especially so that two at the opposite ends of the maps are left out is so obvious that I'm surprised the map designers did not see it as an issue. At least I remember suggesting a similar alliance, but the Vikings and Dutch at the recieving end of the stick in the very beginning.

So I can't really be bitter to other teams doing excactly what I would liked to have done as well. But I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed on the design. This kind of design is especially bad with 6 teams since 4 vs. 2 is kind of a game breaker in almost any given situation. It might not be too bad with 5 teams since 4 vs. 1 is really unlikely to hold for long and 3 vs. 2 is manageable though of course more difficult for the underdogs.

CDZ have send a letter to Maverics asking if they are in alliance with us?

This possibly shows that they are thinking of defecting from the alliance?

That is highly interesting information, Your Majesty! Let's hope they are!

I assume you want to await the situation and see if we get more information from Mavericks before reacting towards CDZ?

Or if the glass is half empty, they are trying to recruit more people to wipe us off the planet :P Though, I must say that is not very likely, since they would not need any more force to do that.

Or, more likely in that scenario, they're trying to get them on their side to prevent the Mavericks attacking their alliance whilst we still live.

However, i'd be much more inclined to believe they have wishes to defect.

Simply beacuse optimism seems to be healthier.

Well, if CDZ has not been completely asleep lately, they should be quite aware that we've been exchanging the technology very liberally with Mavericks. Hence, from their point of view likelihood that we are allied with Mavericks is quite likely. If they are planning on attacking us, it would be very stupid to give any info to our likely allies. Even just contacting Mavericks has already let us know that something is going on, which I'm quite sure CDZ was expecting. Thats mostly why I'm cautiously optimistic on this development. But for now, lets wait and see what happens.

Obsolete send me a PM saying that almost everyone on their team has lost interest and basically it is him and Snaaty playing the game and that we shoudl stop using formal emails and just send him PM's!

He also told me that he send a message to CDZ saying that if they see the situation is hopeless they would just gift all their cities to Sirious to take revenge from Quatronia because they hate quatronia (apparently quatronia sunk their boat and killed their scout).

I think that CDZ were alarmed by this, since it is obvious that if Maverics surrender everything to Sirious it will be bad for CDZ, and that caused them to start thinking...hence the question on the alliance.

This may be a stupid question but I'm still trying to get caught up, is Mav at war with anybody?

It would be great if we could get CDZ to pull out of the alliance and join Mav against Quatronia. Mav obviously hates Quatronia and CDZ could see the possibility of grabing some land. With us holding off Amazon, Mav and CDZ would be more than capable against Quatronia and could possibly force Sirius to start questioning their role in the alliance.

Mav is not at war yet, but they have big tensions with quatronia and war is close they say.
