i just got it, is there any good stuff to say about this game. i admit the 1st time i played civ4 i fell in love. cant quite say that about civ5 but i dont hate it. kinda pissed there is no PBEM w/ this game tho.

The farm graphic looks very nice. I like how the farms interlock and take on a mass sheet effect when built in clusters.

What does PBEM mean?

I like the hex tiles and 1upt, but not how the AI uses them, not much else.... Global Happiness was a good idea but terribly implemented, severely unbalanced (Maritime city states), diplomacy is nonexistent; but hopefully this will at least be addressed if not fixed in upcoming diplo/AI patch

There are some good things:
- 1 UPT is a nice improvement in military strategy. Much more fun than stacking.
- Hexagons have a nicer look than squares.
- City-states are a cool feature.
- I like being able to "embark" units on the sea without having to build a ship for them.
- Social policies are a cool feature that provide more options and long-term planning than civics.
- Leaderhead graphics look very impressive.
- Strategic resources now allow only a limited amount of units, making them more important (at least in the early game, later on it doesn't seem to matter much anymore).

Those are the things I can say are definite improvements in Civ V over Civ IV. Not all of these things were perfectly implemented, but I believe they can be fixed and improved with patches.

Thats right I forgot, CSes are cool (but need to be balanced) and I agree, the embarkation is a step forward.
Strategic resources being limited was one that I'm still not sure about. And I'm not fond of social policies, civics in my opinion were cooler.

Slavery was taken out of the game and put to work on us paying costumers.

Workers = slaves. As the ages increase they get paid more (maintenance), so you can call them blue collar workers instead by industrial.

It would be if the "AI" could play at all. Maybe one day...

Other than that I agree with everything on your list :goodjob:

I would also add that I like the Unique Abilities better than the old leader traits. Like everything else they need to be balanced yet, but still a good idea.

I think the game is good.
Diplo needs to be finished.

Explain something.
Why is it that I see all kinds of posts that maritme CS are unbalanced, when I also see all kinds of posts about how hard it is to grow larger cities due to the food requirements. Then in all of my game the AI is actively going after CS's, whether attacking them or allying them; which means not only can they use them or remove them, tgey do both. If every player ghas access to the same mechanic then it can't be unbalanced. If it's a MP issue, then either take your opponents MT:CS or destroy it. It's called a strategy game for a reason.

PS farms are easier to control.

CSes are unbalanced because it gives you little to no reason to build farms up to about size 9-10 allowing you to work only mines and trading posts, and it contributes to ICS; I've only rarely seen the AI go after a citystate, and only in the early game, most of the time they just conquer, it's both a single and multiplayer issue
PS Why use farms when you have trading posts? Much more profitable.

This. :agree:

I think exploring is good, with ruins and natural wonders to find. Also I like the bonus for finding CS's first.

Barbs are also better then cIV imho.

City States need to be better balanced, and too generate more interesting quests & requests.

1upt has potential, but needs improved AI. Also moving multiple units is a drag. I had an invasion fleet of 15 units, it was a pain to move.

Yes, I like the way the farms look too. Unfortunately, I hardly build any since trading post spamming and maritime city state food is the way to win.
