The Great Armada (West Europe 1580 - 1640)

Reccommendation! Instead of Nice which is a Catholic League sity add: Genoa for Spain. The famous corridor that let Spain ferry troops back up to Spainish Netherlands was from Genoa throught Savoy arcoss Burgundy into Brussals. Genoa was also a close and loyal ally of Spain for close to a century under Andrea Doria. This will make things more interesting and you could put a treasure there as well since Genoa was the center of finance and banking in the Spainish Empire.

Sorry for the delay. Tried to work on a small upgrade but too many things have changed and/or been added and it is not possible. You will have to wait for v2.0.

@ Music theory : actually you are right Nice was not French then, it belonged to Savoy. Could be interesting to have a Spanish city there to end the corridor through Burgundy to the Low Countries. But Genova is a bit too far and since mountains are impassable, it would difficult to represent the road access. But I will try to find out a way.

Hi Loulong,

Actually, it was strange--I was playing a regent game and the Catholic League actually attacked Germany! On Regent! It was weird, the Germans started moving all of their artillery out of this one city, and then the league attacked and took it--as well as another city. I quickly took them from the League, though...so it CAN happen!

I am even more confused. Never saw that happening and usually the AI would be smart enough to avoid doing that. Except if I forgot to put a "defense" unit in one of their cities.

@ Arne : sorry I had missed the stuff. It is right you told me you would update a post of yours.
For the garden I thought of something with less buildings but without them it would be hard to know they are Muslim so I would say they are good as they are.
And thank you.

A last request if you can/don't mind.....
An improvement for the spawning of Med heavy galleass...

Hi again, I've been quite busy this days.

It is correct, though Spain as we know today didn't exist until 1714. It can be a strange concept, but there was no king of Spain, but of Castille, Aragon, Naples, Sicily, count of Barcelona and many other titles... Besides, there was a king of France, a king of England, and so on.
That is the reason why I should prefer to name it Habsburg Empire or something similar, having in mind Austria doesn't appear in the map.

The fact is it is difficult to notice them because that goverment is horrifying, and I suppose everyone prefers the original Monarchy. Because of corruption and forced labour.

What about deleting some of the cities, putting Defenses in all but Algiers, and a building in this one which creates the ships? Also, the so called chebecks and the pirates could be nationality hidden. In this case, Maghrib shouldn't be at war with Spain.

I know, but in 1598 Henry de Navarra was the winner. From then, France was the fiercest enemy for Spain, specially under Richelieu.
The problem is, unless you control France, the AI won't finish the war, as it would be logical to happen soon.
What about thinking about the war not in that way, but with a small wonder in Paris that causes citizens in all cities to be very unhappy? This should keep France (in peace with all nations) collapsed until a later technology makes the small wonder obsolete. The problem is to force war to Spain after that. Perhaps the agression level in the editor should help?
Otherwise, your new idea seems interesting.

Well, as you can see, I like much the age (1500-1800), that is why I was interested some time ago in a world scenario of this period. But now, I think it shall be interesting a complete series of European scenarios.
So, begining with the map, I like yours so much I've modified it adding the rest of Europe. Initially, only for personal purpose. Shall I be able to distribute it? And also, for such a project, help shall be welcome. :crazyeye:

Oh my god, you know what the Alhambra is! I'm so happy to read that! :goodjob:

The Religious Monarchy government will be much better than its horrifying (as you put it very accurately) current status !

Maghrib : possible but that would make it an uplayable civ. Interesting ideas... Maybe in the version with other alliances.

France : wonder in Paris causing unhappy citizen :
good idea. I will try it. Problem : unbalances the game. And I want to keep some balance even over historical accuracy. Otherwise the game is too easy/too difficult (probably my heavy involvement in PBEMs).

Alhambra : don't underestimate your country. The Alhambra is quite well-known worldwide ! And it is a beautiful place !

Actually this isn't in jet, isn't it? Here is a first idea... please tell me, what you think about.

Arne, your stuff is way cool! Are you a graphics designer in your profession?

Also, who did the men-at-arms unit in this scenario? It's possibly my favourite unit in the scenario.

@ Arne : looks very nice and very explicit so thumbs up !
Err... what does "not in jet" means ???

@ Ironduck : Kinboat did it, albeit it was released in the thread of another unit that gave its name to the thread so it is not that easy to find, but it should be listed in the creator's directory.
He also did the Irish gallowglass and the Landskecht.
But I must say I quite like the conversions by Steph too. Some are not so great (rider) but the pikes are usually very nice and the pirates and highlanders give a good feel IMHO.
Aaglo is "responsible" for a few ships and the artilleries.
Bebro did the reiter.

Okay, I will do it that way. What "not in jet" means? Well, I couldn't find a building in TGA1.3(?) wich is producing a heavy galleass every X rounds. So I guessed, it will be a new building (or a changed one) in the next update and it is not included in this version. But, it could be too, it has been overlooked by me, or that building was in "Reconquista" only.

Oups, forgot to say, the muslim building pack is online now.

No it was not in. But it is one of the two new improvements the Spanish get : a tercio-spawning wonder in Madrid and the galleass spawning wonder (Valence, maybe Barcelona).

On the other hand, tercios and galleass are not buildable normally anymore.

Any ETA ?

I have a problem when the scenario starts loading I get a message Missing Entry in "Scenarions/../Scenarios/TGA/text/Pedialcons.txt" can anyone help me?

Err... a bit late I see but was it because you unzipped in the Conquests folder ?

Version 2.0 will be up real soon ! (full version without any patch).

I just need to have one placeholder gfx replaced by what Arne is preparing. In-between I am proof-testing all civs, improvements and situations and correcting/updating the civilopedia if need be.

Some infos : Nice has been given to Spain. The Governor house in Antwerpen generates a tercio every 20 turns which makes the Dutch much less easy. On the other hand I am trying a version where Dutch and English musketeers have amphbious assaults.
All bugs corrected so far.

Oh, not at all !
Just precise it is your version in your post and in the file title. Just so as to avoid receiving remarks about your version.
If you want I can put a link in the first post to your version. But it might be better to wait a bit till v 2.0 is released. What do you say ?

Well, I meant the map, not the scenario, because I was thinking to use it for more projects. It seems for me a very good map for Europe, so I have added much land, including part of Turkey and Scandinavia.

Also, I've thought to begin a scenario with the period 1580-1700.

So I think I'll begin a thread with that. Thank you.

Oh ! In that case, I already posted that map in the map thread (check the directory or my Civ stuff in my signature). The map will have actual Norway,...
BTW this map is actually a corrrected part of a map of Europe by el Mencey so you might want to check it and maybe use MapTweaker to get exactly what you want before starting your mod on this map. It might be better.

Glad your making Antwerp more fortified, because the Dutch take it easily. I was bombaring it with my war galleons, but when I moved them to mop up some Galleons of the League, a bunch of Spanish Galleons poured out of Antwerp. Most were destroried by England, but by next turn I was appauled..Spain left only 1 musketeer defending Antwerp, and I quickly took it, with ease!

I think Tercios should be like the Militia, immobile, because they are very powerful defenders, and should be defending, not capturing and razing cities in England! : )

Arne, are you finished with that Galleass spawning wonder?

Kinda looking forward to Civ 4 in this regard where wonders will be visible on the map, really nice :)

About the treasury, running a deficit was a way of forcing Spain to bring back its treasures back to Madrid as with these treasures, the trasury can remain positive (and this usually generates some naval combat with English Sea Dogs !). But it might a bit strange a concept by comparison to regular epic Civ3
Not if you're a tech whore; since you sell everyone a new tech every four turns or so, you can afford running a deficit all the time. I've had games in which I've been in the red just about all the time from Replaceable Parts to spaceship launch.

Re: winning as Spain, in the current version it's if anything too easy on the middle levels - no enemy can effectively threaten the Spanish homeland, and the AI sucks at cutting your overseas communications.
