The Internet makes You Stupid?

If it's long text, I absolutely prefer it on print. I can still read long things in print no problem. I don't like reading things on the computer screen.

People , don't you like scrolling ?

I never get this, why do people perfer print over screen? It is pretty much the same thing. Although, I do have a habit that forbids me ever letting the arrowhead touch the text and only let it go in the blank spaces (its similar to only stepping on the tiles on the floor that point a certain way or are a certain shape/color) so it makes it hard to read text that are wider that the average post since I have to make sure that when I croll right/left that the arrow doesn't end up in text.

If you believe you are being brainwashed, then print out your reading.

It's that simple.

No more staring at a screen.

I don't really find what he is saying as applicable to me. Seems kind of subjective anyways so... it's an interesting idea but that's about it.

If there was one single invention in information transmission that made us stupider or lowered our threshold for paying attention I would point the blame squarely at the television.

I share the experience of the author of the article, but I'm unsure if there is actually any causation. I'm sure many people (temporarly hopefully) lose focus, while even more stay on the internet for longer and longer periods of time. Seeing that it doesnt apply to a majority of people it could easily just be a coincidence.

I don't know. I still read the paper, I still buy books, both fiction and non-fiction. When I moved into my new apartment a couple weeks ago, half of my boxed up stuff was books.

I can't read eBooks for the life of me. I can read news articles and editorial columns online just fine, but not eBooks. When I'm reading a novel, I don't want to burn my eyes out by staring at a lightbulb for several hours which is the length of time I'll spend in one sitting reading a novel. That being said, most novels I buy I don't end up finishing, since I buy novels by simply walking down the Science Fiction section of the bookstore and buying whichever novel has a cover that looks cool.
