Welcome one, welcome all to the newest terrible idea that I've thought up: The Laughing Fox. In this AC the players will take the role of the new staff of the Laughing Fox Inn, an altogether thoroughly awful and, to this point, hopelessly mismanaged inn.

You have all found yourselves in the employ of the new proprietor Gianni Masi, a young, easygoing fellow who you'd never suspect of being the son of Don Mauro Masi, (in)famous head of the Masi crime family. While working for a mob boss does have the benefit of lowered standards for employment, it also comes with no little amount of danger. The Laughing Fox, as poor shape as it might be in, is more than likely one of the fronts run by the Masi Family and should it go out of business under your care it would do little to endear you to the family to say the least. You are tasked with keeping the Inn in business and capable of supporting the Family's operations, through whatever means necessary.

This AC will be run on the MaidRPG system, one that the usual crowd here should be used to from previous games run by Red_Spy, but feel free to drop into AChat or PM me directly if you have any more questions. Only things of note perhaps is that we will not be making use of the seduction mechanics and random events will be limited.

Setting Information

The AC will be taking place in the coastal city of Palmira one of the largest cities of The Republic that has long drawn towards it many people of different walks of life all looking for opportunity. The time period is equivalent to the late 20's~ early 30's, Palmira would not find itself all too estranged in the place of Chicago or other American cities during the Prohibition, prohibition being another thing that you will have to deal with within the city.

Following waves of mass immigration and the institution of prohibition, Palmira has found itself becoming the home of an impressive criminal underworld. Organized crime has rapidly developed in the city and it now finds itself the host of three Mafia Families, the old Martillos who have had a presence in the city long before any of the 'upstart' families showed up, the ruthless Scolettas who have earned the fearful respect of the city from their roll in putting down the Taemtown Riots, and the young Masi who have recently emerged from a civil war of their own under the sturdy leadership of Don Mauro.

The setting itself is Low Fantasy and as such I would appreciate it if you guys generated your characters to fit the genre, I know maidrpg chargen can go a bit far. If you have any questions as to what is acceptable please ask.
 
The Laughing Fox
The Laughing Fox is a modest two story building nestled in between Ominous and Seedy. Some of the windows are cracked and all contain a generous layer of dust that, beyond the yellow glow of lighting, prevents a deeper look into the inn itself. A creaky sign showing a less than professionally made laughing fox head hangs above the entrance to the building.

The inside of the Laughing Fox fairs little better than the outside, the main door leads to a common room where a bar and some tables have been set up, behind the bar you spy a door that leads towards the kitchen entrance. All were in desperate need of cleaning and you can't imagine how the place has managed to avoid being condemned so far, following your arrival the place has become more presentable but is still a ways from good. A flight of stairs leads to the second floor and the basement, the second floor contains a long hallway branching off into rooms each sketchier than the last. The stairs down simply lead to a locked doorway.
 
Name: Hu Renzhe
Maid Type: Boyish and Heroine (+1 Athletics, +1 Will, -1 Skill, -1 Luck)

Appearance: A lithe young woman, Hu's short-cut indigo hair and fondness for black suits often result in her being temporarily mistaken for a man. She bears a simple tattoo in the shape of a bird on her right arm, although it is often obscured by her clothing. Her eyes are bright silver.
Maid Roots: Who Knows?
Bio: Hu Renzhe was born in Yueye Shan, a small ninja village in Taewen. She never met her mother, who died giving birth, and so spent her early years under the care of her heartbroken father. As his only child, she was expected to continue his legacy as a skilled ninja, and as such he treated her as if she was a boy, rather than acknowledge that traditionally she would not have been trained. Although this bothered Hu occasionally, she largely accepted the oddity, and driven by a desire to prove herself she excelled in the art of ninjitsu.

Unfortunately, as Hu approached adutlhood, turmoil spread across the country in a growing conflict between the old elite and newer ideologies. A growing demand for the skills of her village pulled her father and the other trainined ninja into ever more action, and Hu found him becoming ever less involved in her training. Fearing she was dissappointing him, she pushed herself ever harder, and as a result was away training on that fateful day when the conflict arrived in her home. A warewolf clan raided the village, and although they were repulsed with only a short skirmish, her father was killed in the fighting.

Returning home to find the central pillar of her life gone was too much for Renzhe. Beleiving herself unable to take up her fathers place, she fled the village, arriving in one of the many great cities growing along the coast. Unable to find a proper job, she was forced to survive using only her ninja training, and was rapidly absorbed into one of the many gangs once her skills were recognised. For a time she was able to eke out a living in this manner, but it was not to be.

The ninjas of Yueye eventually tracked her down, and sent her fathers freind Ciju Gushi to bring her back for further training. Although Renzhe refused, he proved doggedly persistent in his task, often expressing displeasure in her current choices of employment. Finding herself unable to cope with his seemingly constant presence, Renzhe eventually decided to leave the country entirely, taking ship for the faraway republic in hopes she would be beyond his reach.

Appearance: A slim girl of average height, with short, white hair. Her face sports a pair of blue eyes that rarely show emotion, which can often be off putting to others, when combined with her youthful appearance.
Maid Roots: Debts
Bio: Sarah Finn was not the product of a happy family. Her mother was a drunk and her father was a con artist known for his convoluted and very unprofitable schemes. The two of them were more interesting in yelling at each other than in raising their daughter, asides from making her do a fair share of the housework. To alleviate her boredom and maintain her sanity, Sarah took to the streets for entertainment. Without any sort of moral guidance, this entertainment often came in the form of broken windows, smashed mailboxes, and defaced storefronts.

After a few too many failed ventures, Sarah’s father eventually found himself indebted to the Masi family for a sizeable amount of funds. While unable to repay this debt, he was able to broker a deal; his daughter, who had contributed little to his household, would work for the Masi family to pay of the family debt. With that, Sarah found herself working at the Laughing Fox.

Name: Nephthys Misra

Appearance: Purple uniform, White hair, Gold eyes. Never wears undergarments of any kind.
Maid Roots: Returning a Favor
Bio: A native of the shapeshifting tribe of Menes, which has lived in isolation in the Ptolemaic desert and worshipped the Old Gods since the days of Constantine's conversion to Christianity, Nephthys was the tribal liaison in charge of trading for supplies. One day while at the oasis of Farafra, a series of unlikely events resulted in Nephthys' status as a shapeshifter being exposed, and she was captured by a mob and sent to Kharga. The religious authorities of the settlement declared her an abomination in the eyes of Allah, and she was set to be publicly executed when the Imam who had sentenced her died. The locals, believing this to be a sign from above that Nephthys was innocent, released her.

The Imam who had sentenced her was well known in the area as being extremely tough on crime, and was instrumental in breaking up a cabal smuggling alcohol into the Oasis town; this alcohol got to the settlement from the Darzi family of Cairo, who procured it from the Papadopoulos family of Rethymno, who got it from the vineyards of the Acquati family of Naples who were distant relatives of the Masi family and to whom the head of the Masi family owed a favor. Working through his relatives in Italy, Mauro Masi arranged for the Papadopoulos family to arrange for the Darzi family to arrange for local criminals in Kharga to have the Imam poisoned, believing that that would send the message that interference with criminal activity would not be tolerated. Nobody at any step of this process knew or cared that their actions resulted in Nephthys gaining her freedom.

Nephthys herself, however, obviously cared a great deal, and was determined to find out who was responsible for freeing her. She managed to trace the convoluted trail from Kharga to Palmira and arranged a meeting with a minor member of the Masi family, offering her services to them for far less than minimum wage; not one to turn down cheap labor that nobody would miss if things went south and intrigued by her shape changing powers, the Masi family hired her on as a maid and she has loyally served them ever since.

Maid Roots: Orphan
Bio: Brândușa cannot remember her parents; her earliest memories are of living alone in a massive, dank forest in the Old Country. When Brândușa was but seven, Mauro Masi- who was in the Old Country to pay his respects to his recently deceased grandmother- witnessed the girl take the form of a wolf under the full moon, and, after inquiring around town, found that she was, depending upon whom you asked, either a legend, a hoax, or a vagabond, but all agreed she had no known connections to anyone in town. Masi- believing that the uses for a tame werewolf would be incredibly varied- approached the girl and offered to adopt her, leaving out that he knew of her condition. Brândușa was overjoyed to finally have a father, and agreed without hesitation.

Mauro took his young charge back to Palmira with him, telling his business associates that she was to serve as a maid to deflect suspicion. Unfortunately (for Mauro, that is), Brândușa heard him say this, and threw herself into her maid duties with great gusto. As she matured, her skillset decidedly leaned towards the domestic and away from the macabre, and Mauro's dreams of a werewolf enforcer were crushed. His adopted daughter proved useful enough as a maid for him to keep her, however, and when Gianni was sent to take over operation of the Laughing Fox, Brândușa was sent with him to keep both the Inn and Gianni's new employees in ship shape.

Bio: Purchased as a reward for Brândușa after the girl skillfully convinced investigating police that a murder Mauro had ordered committed had in fact been planned and carried out by the Martillos, Loreto has been by her side ever since. He has come in handy many times as a spy and informant for the young maid, and is completely comfortable with her even in her wolf form.
 
Name: Violetta Piazza

Appearance: Discounting clothes, one may think Violetta a man at first. Her face is noticeably androgynous and topped with short silver hair. Her eyes are indigo, matching the colors she normally wears. She is relatively tall, with a modest figure and slender build. All of this is betrayed by the violet maid uniform she wears, however.
Maid Roots: Revenge
Bio: Violetta Piazza was born the favorite daughter of Albano Piazza, a subordinate of the Masi family. Using the money he got from his illicit activities, he let his daughter live a rather pampered life. Young Violetta grew up to be the epitome of sophicated grace, carrying herself elegantly, keeping her composure, and doing other "graceful" activities, such as playing the violin. Along with raising her to be graceful, her father also closely monitored her personal interactions, especially with those in the "family". While she grew up knowing about her father's activities, Violetta was always to be supervised when around that business.

During one visit by the Masi head to the Piazza household, Albano had his young daughter, working with others to prepare the food for dinner that night, slip in some poison in a meal for the head. The girl did not know what she was doing and the food was given to the Masi head. It was next morning that the criminal underworld would be shocked to discover the head of the Masi family dead in his bed, safely away from the Piazza home. In the chaos that followed Albano attempted to seize power of the enterprise away from Mauro Masi. His attempt would fail, and the short civil war between the two families would end brutally. The traitor would end up dead and his daughter was sent off to work at the Laughing Fox to live out of sight.

Violetta did not know all the events that lead to her working here now, but she did know that it was because of the Masi family that she lost the lifestyle she had lived up until now. While her father did not let her get involved with criminal activities directly, she did pick up one piece of information she would take to heart. You do not take a slight such as this lightly.

With nothing but two knives and a thick Irish accent, she was convinced she was with some higher purpose against this target. There's a a strange gut feeling that her target has some sort of relationship with the Laughing Fox Inn, and decided to take a job there to wait the target out...

Name: Ming Zhu

Appearance: Tall, voluptuous, and oddly alluring, Ming's working outfit primarily consists of a red and yellow highlighted Cheongsam top, which is open-necked and form-fitting, paired with an equally red short skirt. Her deep purple neck-length hair never seems to be the same style twice in a row, and her clever, metal-colored eyes are good at concealing her equally clever thoughts. She has an elaborate tattoo of an oriental dragon stretching from the right side of her neck down to her right elbow, as well as a circular jade pendant carved into the shape of a wolf.
Maid Origins: Illegitimate Sibling
Backstory: Born in the city of Hai San, across the ocean in distant Taemwen, grew up in the seedy underworld of the bustling urban center, raised by her loving but strict mother and occasionally working in her mother's modest tea shop. While she never knew her birth father, she found all the family she needed in the Yuèliàng Tong, a secret society of werewolves whose origins date back to the earliest of the Taemwen Empires that she and her mother were born into. The clan taught her everything she needed to know about her unique gift, including the meditation techniques which allowed her to keep her head when she transformed, and she and her fellow werewolves of the clan always worked to help one another in times of trouble. Even when times were hard, Ming always had a loving family to support her when things looked bleak, and her childhood was a happy one.

The decent times were never meant to last. War soon erupted between the Yuèliàng Tong and their historic rivals, the Yueye Ninjas, and things only got worse when the nationalists rose up to finally overthrow the weak and capitulating Emperor, throwing Taemwen into chaos. After witnessing a bloody skirmish between the Tong and the Ninjas, Ming's mother decided that it was no longer safe for her adventurous daughter to remain in Taemwen. She told her daughter to travel to the Republic and find her father, a handsome Notalian who had visited her tea shop several years ago, and to stay with him until the troubles were over.

Much to everyone's surprise, including her own, Ming's father turned out to be Don Mauro Masi, the leader of the Masi crime family. An illegitimate daughter coming out of the woodwork was bad enough, but if word got out that she was a werewolf, it wouldn't exactly lead to a long reign as head of the crime family. Too noticeable to get rid of but too problematic to keep around, it was decided to send Ming to work at the Laughing Fox with her half-brother, Gianni.

And that's the end, Calliga was arrested, Cait's fate is unknown, and Gianni and the employees are free to run the Laughing Fox without being bothered by drug deals.
