The Least Appreciated Unit

I think the Caravan is the MOST appreciated unit...

True, I totally missunderstood the question, I thought the question was "Which unit deserves more credit then it get" kinda thing.. but the real question is "which unit you like less"? I thought my level of English was pretty high but still I get fooled by some wordings :) sorry I'm a fan of Caravan, not as much as others but I understand that hardcore players use them a lot.

Definitively Knights
Motivation? I'm with you since they arrive later in the game (not THAT late) and you alredy got chariot and the extra in defence that Knight only bring you can be without.
When travling on Hills/Mountains the extra defence does a difference, but most of the time you got a road net and go one step forward, attack, go back so enemy cannot attach you back...

Yes, Defense boost of Knights is over valuated. Sometime it is good, as you can fortify them in cities after conquer so you not need to build phalanx or musketeer, but musketeer is 50% better in defense.

I agree 100% with your post. But I sometime I miss the knights when I not going into Monarchy -> Feudalism -> Chivalry to get other techs faster. If Chivalry would be needed for something more advanced then it would be different story.

For the record, C1v1l1z@t10n, there is nothing wrong with your English. The way this thread started, it proclaimed the carrier as the most underappreciated unit. As the discussion has progressed, this has turned into a "what's your least favorite unit" thread.

I'm sure Sid intended the knight to be an important step in military development. Trouble is, he put it at the end of a long dead end chain of science development with too little improvement over the ever popular chariot. By the time the knight becomes available, it's job of fast attack has already been done - by the chariot.
Skip the whole line of research and automobile comes 3 discoveries sooner.
Since the AIs treat the knight the way Sid intended, I would have to say it is the most overrated unit (by the AI).

It would be have more sense if knight had better attack value (even at cost of defense).

For me, the least appreciated unit would be the trireme. Not for their attack value obviously but to find other civs, distract them with attacks or for trade. Too bad their effectiveness is over once with navigation getting discovered.
