The Loom of the Land

Here it is. I went with Roosey in the end. First time for everything.

It's high sea level. Apart from that , all standard.

We need one more player I think.

So turnsets, 20 , 15 , 10 , 10

Roster;
Mice
Fbelintani
Fro
Xyqtt

I'd like to wait another half day to get another player, but here are my first thoughts.

No production, zip, nada, until lumbermills. I dont want to wander the settler around, but instead count on our second city to get us big time production. With the floodplain this spot can be a settler pump and the lake will give us 2 commerce. Yippee! Elephants too. Not bad

If you haven't settled it yet I'd be inclined to move towards the FP with settler to see what is there. The big patch of plains we're stuck in isn't going to do us much good.

Yes I haven't settled it. Tricky one. Prince starts usually have a food resource and I can see no food.

lurker's comment: I think the food resources are in the BFC, so if you don't have visibility of your BFC you might not see your food resource. Having said that, I'd still be inclined to move the settler E to scout. Worse case scenario, you won't waste a turn since you can still come back to your current spot and settle next turn.

I moved 1 E to see what was there. One more FP and a plains hill. Even if i moved away form food, we have the floodplains, the plains hill and a plains forest plus the prod from the elephants. This makes it reasonable. I'll settle here and get scouting.

Ok I played 20.

Turn 1
move settler 1 E and settle. See pigs in out fat cross.Warrior scouts up to see the coast.

Turn 2 Warrior heads down south.

Turns 3-5 Looking, looking...

Turn 6
Hut from border pop gives a map .Boring.

Turn 7 Warrior finds gems ! We can use that commerce.

Turn 8
another hut, another map. Buddhism FIADL.

Turn 9, 10, 11 just scouting up put of the jungle in the south heading north west.

Turn 12 AH in . Horses in the south near rice. We will need IW for the rice though. Start on Mining after AH. Fishing our starting tech is not helping us at all.

Turn 13 Hut, 24 gold this time. Not so bad. Like 5 turns of mining gold.

Turns 14-16 more scouting.Worker finished, start on a warrior to grow pop.

Turn 17 pasture the pigs.

Turn 18
Our first guest

Turn 19
Mining in, start on Wheel. Another hut, experience. After humming and haing I decide on combat1 and medic 1. He can run with the stack if we can keep him alive.

Turn 20 Here we are. Issey as a nieghbor, some good resources, but nothing that really leaps out as a great prod city. We have horses.

The area around our capital

And the land to the South

So, Fro , what do you make of that? How about you take the next 15 as Fbelintani is busy till next week.

The grass hill next to the horses looks like a good spot, catching the gems and the rice. It might be tricky to chain irrigate that site.
Really no production sites. That could kill us. I rolled a hard map for this variant. We should explore in Izzey's direction and may have to take good cities by force early on.

Roster;
Mice - just played
Fro - Up
Xyqtt -On deck
Fbelintani - busy

So we need bronze/iron working quickly to crush izzey? And hope se has some nice production sites for us. Use the whip often :p

There's an awesome city site 2E of the horses. It is coastal, grabs Horses, Bananas, 2 Gems and a Rice. I cannot see well on the screenshot, but I can count at least 3 hills. Only problem: lots of jungle. We should tech, after wheel, BW and IW directly if this site is chosen...

So much for my break. See you later!

So we need bronze/iron working quickly to crush izzey? And hope se has some nice production sites for us. Use the whip often :p

Yes , crush Izzey with axes sounds good. Also she will build shrine sometime soon. We want that shrine.

Fbeleintani, the horse site will be good but maybe park the city right next to the horse just to get it without a border pop. I agree on Iron working soon, maybe before Alphabet. If no copper then definitely.

All those resourses can give us plenty of commerce, but Iwould be happier pillaging cottages for our gold. Lets hope we see plenty of cottages from Izzey.

Sorry! forgot the save.

Turn 1 -2 Bit of scouting, build a farm (nngh, i want to cottage those flood plains!)
Turn 3 Washington builds warrior. I'm building another warrior (3 turns) to let it grow to size 3 before starting settler.
Turn 5 Wheel discovered. Next stop, bronze working.
Turn 6 Washington grows, warrior built and dispatched to explore southwards. Begin work on settler.
Turn 12ish! (I lost count a bit). Things get more interesting. I meet these 2 on exploring to the south.

End of turn screenshot, to show what's been explored (marble to S, but I expect competition for land down there. It looks like Izzy might be stuck on a little peninsula - if so we can expect war from her very soon!

Nice Fro. Good point about Izzey. Boxed in she will savage us just like we would. I just want her to build some cottages for us to pillage before she does. I think if we settle by the horses and build some chariots we should be OK to hit her back soon. Good news about Ragnar. He will build cottages for us.

Thinking about Fbelintani yuor suggestion to settle 2 E of the horse. I think we can get two cities for all these resources, with the horses before a border pop.

see dot map. Green lines = hills.

First city , pink , by the Geegees and blue later when we are set up a bit more.

Blue city for later has two food a hill and is coastal for those big trade routes later.

That pink city could save our bacon if we get it set up quick.

Xyqtt , your turn . Have fun. I reccomend settling as per dot map, but , up to you. After BW, ???? hmmm. Maybe writing or iron working

The other thing with Isabella is we want her to build her shrine before we take her holy city if possible. We may have to take it before she gets a chance.

Roster

Roster still open for one more BTW.

continued scouting Got attacked by a lion so 7 turns of healing. I build the city according to the dot-map. City started a new settler. New city started a warrior. Got third city on the other dotmap placing. Started a fishing boat here. We met Saladin:

We got bronze working and after that writing. Bronze within next borderpop. And got it hooked up last turn.
Warrior got completed in the last turn and set it on building a library. Research is set towards alphabet.
Our capital is building a barrack will finsih it in 3 turns and then the city grow.

Our lands now:

Land of Ragnar and Saladin:

In Capital after 3 turns out you can choose a worker or a few axemans.
*IMPORTANT* the worker is building a road towards our second city. This is automated */IMPORTANT*

Nice turns Xyqtt. Issey has a settler coming down the coast. I bet she plants the city on the coast by the resource there. It might take out our copper with culture. So we should build the axes before we lose it, even though we desperately need workers.

The second city looks like hard work, but at least we have those horses. Alphabet is a good choice and hopefully we can get IW and Mathematics for it.

After that it's really a rush to Currency. With currency we can build gold in new cities if necessary. Then we will survive on pillaging and conquering. We may even have to raze Isseys small city that she will plant.

Fbelintani, are you up for it ?

Wow. Good thing I came by here. Got it. Played. ACtually, I played 15 turns. It took too few time and we were on an odd number. I tried to even us at 70 turns. Here we go:

Inherited turn:
First things first. We have too much food on Washington and too few everywhere else. But at least Washington can handle some volunteers. Slavery!

Turn 56/460 (1760 BC) [12-May-2007 16:17:31]
Stopped the auto-roading so I could improve the horses first. I see we don't have Mysticism for monuments. I leave it this way, letting New York build a Library.

Turn 57/460 (1720 BC) [12-May-2007 16:17:57]
Research begun: Hunting (5 Turns)
A little detour here. That elephant camp would be great. Happiness!

Turn 58/460 (1680 BC) [12-May-2007 16:18:41]
Washington grows: 5
Washington finishes: Barracks

Turn 59/460 (1640 BC) [12-May-2007 16:19:15]
Washington begins: Worker (5 turns)

Turn 60/460 (1600 BC) [12-May-2007 16:19:58]
Tech learned: Hunting

IBT:
Judaism founded in a distant land
Actually, not that distant:

Turn 61/460 (1560 BC) [12-May-2007 16:20:27]
Research begun: Alphabet (21 Turns)
A Pasture was built near New York
Washington finishes: Worker :whipped:

Turn 62/460 (1520 BC) [12-May-2007 16:21:23]
Washington begins: Axeman (35 turns)
Washington finishes: Axeman
Judaism has spread: Washington
I hadn't converted just yet. But right after the Holy City is ours... :mwaha:

Turn 65/460 (1400 BC) [12-May-2007 16:23:28]
Boston finishes: Work Boat :whipped:

Turn 66/460 (1360 BC) [12-May-2007 16:24:15]
Boston begins: Library (45 turns)
Need to pop its borders...

Turn 68/460 (1280 BC) [12-May-2007 16:26:25]
Washington finishes: Axeman

Turn 69/460 (1240 BC) [12-May-2007 16:27:52]
Washington begins: Chariot (4 turns)

Turn 70/460 (1200 BC) [12-May-2007 16:34:06]

Ok, things here are a little too scary. We cannot hire specialists. We cannot cotage. And we are going to alphabet alowly. I think we have 8 turns to go, at 80% research. I built our second worker and we need IW desperately to get our second and third cities working ok.

Mice, clean this mess up, please!

Nice turns FB. I was going to question the wisdom of going for alphabet so early. We need to rush barcelona ASAP to secure our copper, which is crucial. If alphabet is only 8 turns then its worth continuing, if its the 22 displayed in your screenshot then maybe we should divert to iron working so we can clean up the jungle round our 2nd city?

Barcalona needs to get to population 2 or it will be razed. Its could be quite a good city aswell as being a shrine city. We need it.

Yes the tech is getting scarey. I haven't jumped into the save yet but my first though is, forget about the jungle just now, we need to pillage to pay for our tech. This means an attack on Madrid probably if Barca isnt size 2 yet.

I'll play and post soon.

Edit: Alpha is in 7-8 turns. hopefully we get IW for it.then the gems will help a lot.

Logging by Ruff's Cobbled Mod Pack v2.0.4 (Warlords v2.08) - New Log Entries
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I played 15 too. Shall we takes 15's for a while?

Turn 0 (1200 BC)
Boston begins Worker , I changed it from Library, just for now.

Turn 1
building axes,chariot

Turn 2
same

Turn 3
Washington finishes: Chariot

Turn 4/

We declare war on Isabella
Captured Barcelona

Turn 5
Contact made: Mongolian Empire.

Kublai Khan. OK, no big worries there. Except we have 5 AI's on this continent. I dont know if we will get such big trade route income form sea routes to the same continent.

Turn 6
New York begins: Axeman
Tech learned: Alphabet

Turn 7
Research begun: Iron Working (9 Turns)
Tech trades;

Kahn gives us Sailing for writing
Ceasar gives us Mysticism and Pottery for Writing
Saladin gives us Masonry for Writing.
Ragnar wont trade.

We have an alphabet monopoly. I think alpha was a good call.

Turn 8
Washington begins: Axeman (4 turns)

Turn 9

New York finishes: Axeman

Turn 10

Washington finishes: Chariot

Turn 11

Washington finishes: Axeman
New York finishes: Library
Boston finishes: Worker

Attitude Change: Augustus Caesar towards Saladin, from 'Cautious' to 'Pleased'
Attitude Change: Ragnar towards Augustus Caesar, from 'Cautious' to 'Annoyed'

This is good. Raggy and Augustus angry at each other. We could be friends with Saladin and Augustus for a while, attack Ragnar

Turn 12
Washington begins: Chariot
New York begins: Axeman

We attack Seville and raze it
17 gold for it only, but no point waiting for it to grow. (Self razed BTW)
Washington finishes: Chariot
Barcelona finishes: Axeman

Now to go after the Capital.

Turn 13
Washington begins: Axeman (4 turns)
Barcelona begins: Lighthouse (6 turns)

Turn 14
Military moves to north

Turn 15

Just out of our border I see a 2 archer+settler crew. The chariots have 1 movement turn so I pounce. 2 dead archers and we have a fourth worker.

Iron working due next turn.

Now I didn't sell Alpha for iron working because we had it in 3 turns. I should have teched Mathematics, because IW was a dead certainty from Alphabet. Silly mistake by me. Now we have alphabet monopoly which is good , and IW in one. with this we can work the gems and keep our tech lead. Lighthouse in Boston will increase our coast commerce.

So from Alphabet we can get Polytheism,Archery, blah. I hope to get Mathematics with it, but we need to tech to that in order to get Currency which is our No. 1 priority. It seems we are ahead of the AI in tech, so cant get much for our lead. We should get Maths for it and even more if we hold out.

Next, get as much cash as possible from the attack on Madrid.Best to leave farms and mines for us. I'm still building axes, but we can see soon what units we will need. Issey probably has 4 archers and 50% or so.

Ragnar is cautious but more bothered by Augustus who will be pushing his buttons on the border so we are probably safe from him. But he's not safe from us.

I just realized, we can start the great Lighthouse in Barcelona when the lighthouse finishes. I sent a worker there to make a mine. We should go for it. Only Khan has sailing I think.

Also a lighthouse is probably a better build in Boston, to get at the sea tiles.

Also how about stonehenge in the capital. We dont have to worry about polluting the GP pool, and we'll need Prophets for our shiney new shrine - 2 at least. If we miss it, it's gold in the bank.

Edit: We can go for the Oracle ,better than Stonehenge.. The free tech would really help. Currency if you can get it.

Re. tech. How about heading for Metal Casting to trade it for mathematics ? It puts us in line for the Collosus, and we can self research currency, Oracle it, or get in trade too.

lurker's comment: one thing you might want to check out is one of Sistuils recent ALC's where he used a GME (great merchant economy) where you build the Collosos (SP?) and Great lighthouse in 1 city then you get a bunch of GMs and send them to foreign countries to get huge flows of cash

Yes, good idea. I think we can grab the G lighthouse and should be able to beat the AI to MCasting

Don't lurk, join the team.
