The Meaning of Life? (Really)

why can't you just accept nihilism and be happy like everyone else

objectively there is no meaning to anything, but you can assign all of the relative meaning to your life that you want.

Even Christians ask these questions occassionally. Except we don't consider ourselves to be just wormfeed when it's all over with. Me, everyday I consider myself one day closer to my true home. My Christianity isn't based upon just something to believe in, meaning some religion. It isn't based upon something that someone told me to believe in. Yes, I had to hear the message from somewhere, but it is based upon a personal choice which I made. It is something that no one who isn't a Christian can possibly understand. It is about a living, close relationship with a God who gave up His own, perfect Son so that we could live eternally with God. That is it in a nutshell, there may be others who can explain it better than I can, but as a Christian, all of life has meaning. Not all of life is necessarily pleasureful, but it does have meaning. -- If you are looking for some utopia, or some party with no hardships, then I think you keep on singing like U2-- I still haven't found what I'm lookin' for.

While others here disagree with me, this is my experience.

The meaning of life is whatever you make it out to be. Some people desire wealth, fame, power, a family, to propogate with the most attractive female available, or some combination of these things.
What an accurate summary of my very own outlook. :D

It's not good for my reputation to admit THAT in public..... :mischief:

There is no meaning to life that I have found, nor have I ever searched for meaning to life. Why do so many people desire meaning to life? Is it to vindicate their otherwise futile and pointless existence in the greater scheme of things?

At any rate I have never searched for a meaning to life. All I know is that I am alive, I like life, it is enjoyable, pleasurable, challenging, painful, horrible, etc... all at the same time. And I like it. Life is just fine,I exist and that is enough for me. I require no greater menaing to fulfill myself. I live life because it is fun, and good. Do I need a meaning beyond that?

Life or human existencce?

Anways, I'll share my thoughts. The point of life is to learn, spread, and evolve. Imo evolution leads to the point of sentience, at this point a being becomes very powerful. It becomes so powerful it can actually insure the continued survival of the Universe. We will of course continue to evolve. . . didn't wany any mis-conceptions.

And in the end isn't all purpose purposeless, because the purpose is the purpose in itself?
First, there is your purpose as you choose it; the way you contribute to the lives of those around you. As a person you can be influential and have an impact on who and what is around you.

Second, there is the purpose of creation as it unfolds before us. You can, as many of you seem to have done, only pay attention to the first and ignore the second, but that does not change the existence of a purpose that is larger than the individual, family, or nation.

I'm curious as to why you think this is true.

Because I believe that the universe is "part of" a larger existence which puts the universe in a context and provides a purpose to it.

So what's the purpose?

Make your own raison d'etre was and is my message.

Those posts were just higher level humor that were twisted into having actual meaning by psuedointellectual hacks.

 nice.

I think you should arrest Albert Camus for writing about the absurdity of life in the first place or you could if he was still alive, atheistic existentialists gave people all sorts of funny ideas. If agreeing with funny ideas is a crime then it's a fair cop. As John Cleese Once said 'your ****ing nicked my beauty' Wonderful race the Romans :)

The universe is the process by which finite consciousness discovers itself to be infinite.
