Not that I, a law-abiding cfc-tizen, expects to be, but I can't find any info about notification to the bannee about how long they are banned and for what. In other words, how does the bannee know except by inference when they can't post eg.

And is the decision appealable, as in any democratic setup?

Well the mod who banned them ussually sends a PM to the person, unless the person has disabled PMing, in which case they try e mail, if thats gone then they psot it in public.

you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private. If it's not resolved or if you don't receive a reply from the moderator after 24 hours, you can then PM or email Thunderfall.

Private message, unless the foolish miscreant has them disabled.

We can of course arrange a private and personalized live demonstration for anyone interested...

You have been hanging around with me too much, XIII.

Dang spamming moderators. :o Back on topic.
appeals process is spelled out in the rules
"Public discussions of moderator actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private. If it's not resolved or if you don't receive a reply from the moderator after 24 hours, you can then PM or email Thunderfall.

Mechanics? Quite simple: Just hit the button! Occasionally you're going for the 'buddy' button, and you hit the ban one. A bit of a pain, 'cause only TF can un-ban people, but the odd "accidental" random banning is the price that must be paid to have a well-run forum (The end justifies the means). :)

So if only TF can un-ban people, then what happens when bans expire? Does TF have a list of bans and their expiry dates or something?

That sounds a bit obvious...I dunno...maybe mods inform TF or something?

Yep, a simple calendar and he manually changes their status from "banned by moderators" to "registered"

Is there no comformation for a ban? Shouldn't it ask whether you are sure that you want to ban this poster?

A Dr Stranglove scenario and no precautionary step for confirmation it seems. Looks like power is the ultimate reward for sweat (and not so many tears) ;)
