I can win regularly with Germany on Emperor now...Militaristic Scientific can really kick...cheap librarys are better than cheap temples as they add science as well as expand borders...early war mongering produces leaders easily and with the new powered armies u can expand quicky-nab tech, build librarys and expand til ur either one or two in size...then u repeat-

Vikings and Dutch. But both those options seem to have been excluded from the poll.

On an archipeligo, out of those choices, England is probably the best. So, I'm voting England (only).

If the polls could have more options

portugal, rome, byzantines, england and arabia

For me it's the Ottoman's.

Perfect traits, but more importantly a perfect UU that can initiate GA's at the perfect time (for me at least) and can dominate all other units, and still be useful cannon fodder later in the game.

I understand most of them.... but Arabia? What do you think make them so powerful (in your view)?

I know this isn't his view, but Arabia are one of the most powerful Civs (in my opinion)
Expansionist is without a doubt the best (or at least my favourite) trait on Pangaea maps. Chance of a settler/city, techs, gold, units, early contacts, lots of contacts, and the ability to see where you want to/can expand is too good.
When i'm a warmongerer, the few buildings I build inlcude temples and cathedrals. Being able to do this in half the time is rather nice ;) To add to that, you get only 2 turns in Anarchy, also rather nice.
If all that wasn't enough, their UU gets an Extra movement -- again, on Pangaea maps that is great -- and is 10 shields cheaper.
That's what makes 'em so powerful.

I love the Celts they can easily mobilize an army for far away Ancient Wars (gallic swordsmen :worship:) with Statue of Zeus they are immortal in ancient times

Ok, but that's on a pangea map. I don't think you should base a civ on map-type. It is the overall that makes 'm powerful.
I also look at how good they are doing as opponents. Somehow Germans are almost always my most powerful opponent. Mayas too. But Arabia is almost always one of the first civs to meet their maker. And not always because I crush them, but they get crushed often by other AI-civs. And I play on different types of maps, so not only islands, or something.
Religious IS very good, but rel in a combo with scientific or indusrious is much better IMO. Expansionist is considered by most civers (AFAIK) as the worst trait, or maybe second worst.
Early exploration is good, but the extra techs most of the players get anyway with the GL. Extra gold is handy. A settler (which I find sporadic) is probably the best. But this all can't compete with speedy workers, cheap libraries, extra SGL or MGL, extra food/commerce and so on.

I think the Ansar Warrior is among the very best UUs in the game. It goes a long way to compensate the non-fantastic trait combo. Still, I wouldn't consider Arabia a contender for best allround civ.

I tend to think of Militaristic as the least powerful trait.

I wasn't basing the civ on the map type, I was basing the Expansionist trait. The only types of maps that I wouldn't advise Expasionist would be 80% water archipelago, and maybe 70%. Most players don't know how to use this trait properly (that's why it's not rated too highly)

That's not really to do with the traits/UU, that's to do with what they're set to build often/rarely. You'll find that if you unchecked all the boxes (in the editor) for every Civ, that they would generally be pretty much equal.
It's also to do with what bonus units they start off with (only applicable for higher leves). Ie, the Germans would start with no warriors, instead they would get Spearmen and Archers. The Maya get would warriors and spearmen. Wheras the Arabs only start with warriors. It's not to do with how "good" the Civ is.

I think it is one of the things what make an opponent good. Their traits surely are part of their power. Extra movement point for ships is noticable, scouts are noticable, extra food for agriculture you'll surely notice and UU's you surely notice. I don't mind elephants as opponents, but I do mind immortals/Gallics/Berserkers as opponents.

CrazyScot is right, I just started with the Ottos (on Chieftan) and they are a bulldozer. I don't think I will need to build tanks at all, and I'm on a huge Pangrea map with all the civs allowed. The Scientific trait helped me get to cavalry first, and the industrious helped me turn out a great number of them (veteran because of Sun Tzu) just as the other civs were building musketmen. My Sipahi are now now smashing across the continent, followed by a horde of especially hard working workers/slaves to build railroads which allow riflemen to show up (if not for the Scientific trait giving me nationalism I would probably still be using musketmen) to defend/occupy my new cities. I think I'm ready to start Regent, with the Ottos. Plus they just look so cool, in shining armor rolling their guns.

This goes out to my Ever Victorious Imperial armies, the true heroes of these wars.

"Whenever you're near I hear a Sipahi . . ."

I also think the Arabs are very powerful, but two of their thee strengths (Expansionist and Ansar Warrior) are definitely dependent on landmaps

I would rate the Arabs as a good civ. Near the top of the 2nd tier civs but not in the same house as Egypt, Persia, Babylon etc.
