The Nation States Scen thread

If you are not too far along. . .

I would like to request that Balernia and Arkburg switch places on the map. I don't think Balernia has signed up as yet for the scenario so, hopefully, my request doesn't step on anybody's toes.

The reason for the request lies in Arkburg's history (which I am now writing). Originally the narrative was based on the territory you've assigned to New Paalia. The history involves two elements: a lengthy internal conflict between highlanders and lowlanders, and a maritime region (i.e., islands) that lies off the coast. Based on the terrain map in post #135, the spot occupied by Balernia would do just as well.

If you can accommodate it would be appreciated.

unfortuntley, Balarnia was established in that area BEFOR the NRI republic even became the UN deligat; further more the map is a general map of the region, not just in use for this scenario, I f you want to swap places your going to have to talk balarnia into it...

remember this is the elevation map of the mainland-

also, just as a notifaction, custom units, and civpedia entries will be amoung the last things done; its mainly just getting the civs(and leaders, and cities and such) named, and the geography established for now

sure, but you still have time to change your mind yet again if need be

Oh you`re doing custom UUs? excellent!

hmm, you know, I was thinking to make a UU, but it occured to me that if you create a new UU the AI will not use it...I am wrong in my conclusion?

@ Louis XXIV

you need 4 more cities wouldnt be fair if i exempted one, and not every one else... though i have some suggestions if your stumped-

Tauropolii (more or less bull-town in archaic greek, seems to fit in with the slight animal theme)

Epona (means horse in some language I forget that I heard about in the history forums- there is a horse resource in/close to your territory)

Archaia (supposed to mean old/ ancient, a fitting thing this you valiently have me remember the old nations from our region)

Preima (a sort of alternat spelling of 'prima", latin for first, because your nations is one of the older members of the region)

also, your history leaves it open (if its ok with you) for the nation of borderlands to be the NRIs' border lands in any ancient/ medieval scenario that is done, but again, nly with your permission

The city names sound great (I didn't realize I'm one of the older nations  )

The border thing sounds fine, just one note. About the time of the Middle Ages, the Epsilonians arrived (I'm not sure the exact time period, but it could be anywhere from 30 AD to 1300 AD, so the Borderlands would be slightly different. I'll PM you with details)

BTW, the nation of Epslon (a typo I decided to keep) did exist as my nation at one point, before I joined Civfanatca. I had forgotten about it, so it got deleted.

@ John-LP- the computer will use any unit available to it, it is the best choice given a situation, since most UUs' are stronger then what they are replacing (and replaceing a unit anyway, in most cases) the compter may have no choice but to use it

@Louis XXIV- mind if I snag the name Epslon for a barbarian tribe; I would like all the barbarians to be renamed non participating nations, but it turns out that you have to have 75 (i think, its in the 70s' at least) tribe names, other wise it wont let you leave the tribe rename screen....I found that out the hard way mind you....

@Xen - Don't forget to name a barb tribe the after the Ordoro civilization that predates the Russians in Chitzenia...

 Same thing happened to me with the mod I'm making. I had done a lot of work on my civies and units, then went to redo the barbarians. I deleted the whole lot to start from scratch, then changed my mind and decided to do it later. I tried to leave but noooo, you need 75 names or no go. I had to rename each one with a number. (i.e. 1,2,3...) That was a lot of fun

Okay, new bonus every one :)- I call it "the name your own barbarian tribe" feature, dont misout, name yours today! :)

History to come soon
6) Originally a loose federation of tribes, the Incorporated States of Aoneeyedsquirrel has changed into one of the primary nations in the area. Its culture, language, and even religion all focus on the history of an infamous one-eyed squirrel.

The legend goes that as the chieftan Mastacata began to unify the tribes of the mountains long ago he was initially successful until he began to fight against an indomitable tribe. Mastacata laid siege to the tribe's village. Yet the village had near endless stores and it would not fall within many lifetimes.

However, when the chieftan ventured into the forest he met a squirrel with only one eye. It said that it knew exactly how to defeat the tribe, and it lead the chieftan to the walls of the village and it is believed the squirrel infiltrated the walls and destroyed all the food. The tribe surrendered and Mastacata asked the squirrel how he could repay him. The squirrel merely answered that the chieftan make sure no man would ever harm a squirrel. The chieftan agreed and soon had unifyed all the mountain tribes with the squirrel's help, but the squirrel was dying. As his last words, the squirrel said that Mastacata's empire was to stretch onto the vast plains in the East and as the squirrel passed away the chieftan swore to do such. Soon the chieftan had prepared a massive army of squirrel warriors trained by the one-eyed squirrel himself capable of taking all of the plains, and it advanced. The army fought many battles and won until they reached the faction of Anthamore lead by the great warrior Steven of Anthamore.

The tribe had wealth beyond anyone's dreams, and Mastacata wanted it. But the squirrel came to the chieftan the night before he attacked warning him he would be killed if he attacked. He ignored the advice and attacked the next day, dying as predicted. As Mastacata's successor was being chosen Steven of Anthamore agreed to assimilate into their tribe and peace reigned.

As many great general's and kings ruled the land, including Robert the Builder, most famous for a giant statue of himself built in the middle of plains, and George the Charred-Face, famous for his obsession with fire, it developed into an economic powerhouse and a safe haven of the region, as it never wanted to enter into any wars. The monarchy gradually evolved into a weak, benevolent dictatorship with occasional elections, resulting in some of the most influential and powerful rulers in the region.

In the modern era the country had a civil war with many factions each vying (sp?) for their own independence. However, the Mastacatians in the mountains won under the guidance of the one-eyed squirrel. Peace returned to the nation as did prosperity.

The Incorporated States of Aoneeyedsquirrel is a nation that emerged from a loose federation of tribes, through a civil war, into a nation that is closer and more welcoming than ever. Thus over thousands of years the great nation has developed beyond all expectations, even recieving people of all ethnicities while still maintaining a believe in a great squirrel god that is there to protect.
