That's a pretty small world war compared to the previous two!
Come on, we are not fighting Islam. There currently are wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but those two countries doesn't exactly count for all the muslim countries in the world.

All of those countries suffer from attacks by Isamists in the name of Islam. Until the "moderate" muslims take back their religion this is the face of islam.
But I'm sure someone will try to come with the "But its only a few" hogwash when its a few million actively targeting non-islamic peoples.
Its not just the attacks and battles. Look at Van Goe or the reaction to the cartoons. Islam is full of fanatics that are becoming more militant. And its not because of any nations policies but because imams in friday prayers fomenting misplaced anger and hate.

Most are but most of the vacationers who are the targets at the hotels that get bombed aren't. Islamists don't care iif they kill a few innocent muslims anyway. They are martyrs.

That's still not a world war, actually, it's much more close a cold war, but it's not even that. Let me explain why.
The two world wars were real wars (in the old fashioned way), fought by real goverments, with a central administration on each side, deciding how the war should be fought.
The cold war was not a real war, however there were wars (also counting civil wars) all around the world sparked by the cold war. It was the clash of two different ideologies that sparked these conflicts. There was no central administration fighting the war on each side, however two administrations contributed to the different wars around the world, with technolgical, financial and/or in some cases direct military help.
However the current clash between Islamism and The Western World is quite different. Wars are now being fought with a central administration on one side, and a decentralized ideology on the other. While it may have a global trend it's not a sinlge war, but a whole series of different wars.
Note: My definition of a central administration is one where a group of conutries cooperate to form an alliance, just as it was seen in both world wars and in the cold war. There is no evidence that the Islamic world have created such an alliance. Just look at the conflicts between Shia and Sunni in Iraq or Iran and the Arabian bordering countries or Sudan and Chad.

Well, effects have already happened. But once the serious stuff happens, then, we won't be capable of having a world war, since almost everyone in the north would be dead. Not so much of a world then.

World war will start from localised regional wars. Main cause of the wars will be battle for land and resources, especially water. There's the occasional power-mad dictators who wanted power for themselves. These regional wars will slowly merge into a global war as alliances are formed.
