The Noble Court

Hmmm...we want to keep it fairly abstract but we can put a couple of things in. The current high tech armor and weaponry could allow the full armor/weaponry skill to be used. Older tech would use half of the skill points. For horses, a beast appropriate to the task allows full points, an inappropriate beast allows half or none.

So if 2 contestants both have 4 points in armor but one has bronze and the other has iron the bronze wearer would use 2 points and the iron wearer would use 4. Same with a bronze sword vs. iron sword or short sword vs. long sword. For low joust a jumper (hunter) is the appropriate beastie and somebody riding one would get their full horsemanship bonus while somebody on a warhorse would get half. Just the oposite for the high joust. Somebody on a riding horse could compete but would get no horsemanship bonus because that mount is totally outclassed.

Includes gaining experience and reworks the skills.

Mechanics

Each player has 5 points to distribute among the main skills and 15 to distribute among all subskills. Ability in a particular contest is determined by adding together the skills that apply. Main skills are added once, no matter how many applicable subskills are involved. Each subskill that applies is added. The ability sums are added to a die roll for each contestant and the total performance numbers are compared.

Inferior armor, weaponry or horse will reduce the points gained from the appropriate subskills by 50%. A player cannot enter a contest if he has a zero rating in any applicable skill or subskill.

Increasing skill levels

Each player receives 1/4 point in each applicable subskill per contest entered in a sanctioned event. The winner(s) also receive a full point that they can apply to any subskill used in that contest.

A player may be trained by someone with an applicable subskill at least 3 greater than theirs and skill level at least equal. Each training session takes one chat and yields a 1/4 point gain in the subskill level. Only a single subskill can be trained at one time.

Each term, each player receives one full point that can be put in any skill or subskill.

I can do every task required of me but have not given much time or training to the martial skills. I can hold my own on the ground but I excel from horseback. I am a fairly pure horseman and hunter. Regular forays on the sands, mattock filled grasslands and wizened woods near the Marillion have given me exceptional steeplechase experience. My hobbies are horse breeding and training. Training so many regal beasts has provided phenomenal experience in precision horse control.

Good stuff, Shaitan. We should get this voted on and instituted ASAP. A few of us knights are gonna have a good time doing this..... and let's not forget that this is the alternative to civil war.

WOW! The dungeon master shaitan! (at least i think you could also do that job good)...

Now one thing is missing:
* The weaponry or armour could break (shields, lances, swords, arrorws, bows)
* People could get injured
* Horses could get hurt
If we would also implement those events (like for every lost fight your shields and weapons get a 50% destruction chance) we would also make people buy more weapons.
For example with jousting, it is quiete common that the lance breaks or the shield is damaged.
For people or horses being hurt: If the HP of a horse or human reaches 50%, the experience of the fighter is halved. If it reaches below 25%, he can not fight any more / has to change the horse.

Now as i rething, maybe that is too complicated for the fist shot. But we should try to implement it on the second shot.

Here will be my specs as an example:
DEFENSE - 2
Armored - 3
Shield - 3
Unarmored - 0

HORSEMANSHIP - 1
Steeplechase - 0
Precision - 3
Speed - 3

WEAPONRY - 2
Melee - 3
Ranged - 0
Hurled - 0

Which would be best for:
High Joust
Combat while ahorse
And would also fit with my equipment and for the crusade ;-)

I've been DMing for about 20 years now. ;)

I agree that possible consequences should be added in, but not until after the first big run thru.

We should have a seperate thread where the DM can post the specs as excel spreadsheet. It would work like an index, with the updated specs in the first post and the change requests as citizen posts (well, this must imho be a mod-job as posts must be deleted).
This way the DM could easily keep track of the values.

Great Idea, Shaitan. I can see you as a DM.
I will be competing, as I defend my honor as Penguin of the Lake, Heir of the House of Cupertania.
My Statistics:
DEFENSE - 1
Armored - 2
Shield - 2
Unarmored - 1

HORSEMANSHIP - 2
Steeplechase - 1
Precision - 2
Speed - 1

WEAPONRY - 2
Melee - 2
Ranged - 2
Hurled - 2

I believe this adds to 20. As you can see by my statistics, I am a jack of all trades. No one sport is my best, I am fair at all. I look forewards to competing in the compition for honor, glory and (is there any?) gold.

Well, I belive these are the proper numbers for me:
Sir Plexus, Knight of Fire, Hawk of Cinnamon, heir to the throne of the Plexian peoples
(still working on the title) :D

DEFENSE - 1
Armored - 1
Shield - 1
Unarmored - 1

HORSEMANSHIP - 0
Steeplechase - 0
Precision - 0
Speed - 0

WEAPONRY - 4
Melee - 12
Ranged - 0
Hurled - 0

I will be entering the following events:
Duel
Duel (Armor)
Duel (Sheild)
Brawl
Wrestling
Grand Melee

A fighter at heart, as most Plexian desendants are. Originating from the mountains, the Plexians had no need for horses, with the exception of sustanance, he is willing to learn but will need an experienced master.

Arsenal:
Body Armor (Leather and Mail)
Iron Helmet
Custom Longsword
Iron Sheild

I'll set up a thread for it tomorrow. We'll give a couple of days for people to join up (and for me to set up food and drink). Let's say Thursday for the event.

EDIT: Correction. Make that a Wednesday target. We'll likely be at war by the end of Wednesday's chat turn so the troops will be needed elsewhere.

thursday? i was thinking tuesday... i will cater to this event, for free, of course.
[edit]also, do you have to be gentle to enter this?[/edit]
