Glad I could CONTROL your FREAKing out:p

I don't know if anyone has commented on this, but the readme text was sort of strange- it was 70 or so kb so notepad couldnt open it. I used wordpad, and even though it looked like it was going to be a long read it was fairly simple to set up my ptw1.14. Only about 1/8 of the document was instructions, the rest of it was what looked like 100's of lines of random characters or jibberish. Did someting wierd happen to my download, or is the txt file really like this?

Have you guys ever given any thought to doing this with some sort of installer package? This is especially true for some of the mods which naturally are always placed in the same location. Add to that an easier method to uninstall it if need be. You can easily backup any files you replace (like the txt files). I am a computer person, and don't mind the work of coping these files manually, but I would rather not, I'm lazy, I'd rather an automated process that would properly backup files.

BTW the method firaxis used in PTW is silly, but something like that would work too, except not everyone uses PTW.

I have civ3 and ptw on two different drives. Plus, during the install you can change the folder names. E.G: I have it listed under Civ3. I can't remember if it's supposed to by civ3 or civilization3. So, I can see where an automated process might also create lots of problems. Of course there are lots of skilled programmers on this site. Maybe one of them could write a utility to automatically search for the target folders and copy the graphics files there.

1. A FAQ question raised by you asking “Who are the GOTM Staff members?”, or

2. A section at the bottom of the “Player’s Section” web page for “Laji” who are a group that oversee the entire monastery.

Your choice.

I didn't originate the thought, but I'll throw in my 3 cents (with inflation) anyway. How bout all of these:
  • A sticky thread called 'GOTM staff and their e-mail addresses'. The first post would have their e-mail addresses listed as URLs. The first post would be by Cracker with the comment to "click on PM which is on the top left of this box beside profile". The 2nd, 3rd, etc. posts would be by the other GOTM staff again with the comment to click on the provide link for their e-mail and/or click on the box to send PMs.
  • List the staff on the left hand side of the GOTM pages. It says staff positions but it's blank below that.
  • List the staff and e-mail addresses in the .txt file that comes with GOTM download.
  • Plus the 2 you mention.

Maybe we need a new thread: How to install GOTM or how to read a readme.txt or something.

Maybe they need to just make the darn things a scenario/mod instead of this confusion... That's what its beginning to be, each month adds to the mod from the previous month

It would be a lot easier to package them all in to one and also offer them separately too, so first-comers don't have to search and individually download each cutom unit.

Where is the gotm18 save file

Read the readme file in the download. There is a link to the download.

i typed that adress in and my seach engine said there was no such adress

Try copy/paste. I just did it yesterday, and it worked fine.

i got it i just typed the adress in the bar while i was still on the civfanatics screen well i'm going to go die now i,ve never played on monarch

Im having problems loading the Aprit Game of the month. I followed all the installation instructions...and this is the error i get:

missing Entry in "text\Pedialcon.txt" Animname_PRTO_Pictisch Warrior.

What did i do wrong?

Thanks in Advance!

You need the pictish warrior setup.

Did you remember to place the graphics AND the updated PediaIcon.txt file?

Most likely you either put the Pict unit art in the PTW - Art folder, or you forgot to put it in at all. All the new units go into the CIV3 - Art folder, while the pediacons.txt go to PTW text folder.

I want to have a go at the 18th GOTM game but i dont know where to get the saved game from, I keep downloading the unit graphics and the text files, but I dont know where da actual saved game is. I put the unit graphics and the Pedialcon thing in the right place but I need the promised saved game. Where do I download it from? :(

Where do i find the Pictish Setup? I looked in my units and its there do i have to activate or something?

Thanks

In the readme there is a link to the save file to download the game, available after April 1.
