While many people here have probably played the remake of this game, the original was not available for a long time. But now, Sid Meier's Colonization, originally released in 1994, is availabe in a DRM free version at the online platform "Good Old Games" (GOG.com, direct link).
It costs 5.99$ and is compatible with all the latest Windows versions.

We also have a thread to discuss this in our forums, please see here.

Thanks to Maniacal for this news tip :).

that had a big handbook. like old versions of civs had it too when you bought the boxed

It is the DOS version, not Colonization for windows, just FYI!

You want the DOS version anyway. Colonization for Windows was horribly bugged. :scared:. Seriously, that's what DOSBox is for.

I had the original, still must have it in a box somewhere. Why was it rare? I bought all the Sid Games from Pirates! on until my computer got too old to play games. I bought Civ II for my roommates computer while I was living in Ottawa. I think I may have played it the least.

I certainly played III more than IV and now I've played a lot of V. I was pretty good at Railroad Tycoon which the original Civ engine was based on. I never played as Spain in Pirates or Colonization, but I have tried Isabella at least once in CiV.

It isn't a bad game, though I remember exporting so much gold and/or cigars that the price would depress to the point that grain or wood was worth as much or more. :goodjob:

 really? The product description says it's available for XP til 7, and a DOS game should not run under 7, should it?

GOG.com probably added DosBox to the game's files, which they often do for Dos games so they run on Win7 etc.

GOG = Good Old Games

need to be corrected on main page as well

I guess that "renaming" will hurt its visibility on google, but well...not my beer :dunno:.

mmhh...that might be.
But doesn't really matter for me, as long as it works.

What bugs?

Goood, a way to old for today
and too simple presentation for today
but most todays games not more deep either
in spite of it better if brought remastered version and colo remake began as a disaster
