Hello, what's the point of religion in the modern age?
For cities already converted in the previous era, and for those not converted to our own religion ?
Thanks for the clarifications.

There's the one path where you can keep the religious focus thing isn't there?
It's a nice one to keep. (4 science per foreign settlement following my religion :)

Unfortunately you can no longer spread or affect what religions are where, so unless you were totally killing it with religion at the end of the Exploration Age, it seems unlikely that you'll get value worth the opportunity cost of trying to hang on to such bonuses that are still available in the Modern Age.

If you did 4 science or 4 gold per foreign settlement and spread it a lot, this is a huge advantage to keep in modern.

All you need to do to get use of retaining those bonuses is plan a little ahead (ie preparing a worldwide standing army of missionaries to mass-convert the globe on the last turn of exploration :P)

I did not quite do that, next time maybe! Spamming my missionaries the last 20percent of the game got me to 90% max; I did unlock a second founder's at about 76%. Thus learning that the golden age carry over is a pick one. /sigh I opted for the 4gp per settlement (my other choice was the happiness for marine hexes, which given I was on an archipelago map was tempting!)

You get both, actually. The UI isn't clear, but you do get both when you select one.

I cannot stand the state of religion in this game. As soon as you start converting your cities and towns, the other Civs are constantly switching my cities and towns back to their religion. There seems to be nothing that I can do to stop it, other than keep wasting my time pumping out missionaries. Its a complete joke.

It seems to just depend on your opponents and their beliefs. I've had games as you describe, and games where the AI hardly seems to care about spreading religion at all. I wonder if it is also affected by difficulty? I realize that in my higher difficulty games, religion doesn't seem to be spread around much. Possibly extra military activity is a priority.

At the moment I play on pussy coward difficulty lol. So, shouldn't the whole game be easier?

In my experience AI always spreads religion on top 3 difficulties.
