The Poll on Civ BE

Ryika:

I'm convinced that the lack of interest is due to CivBE's maddeningly opaque interface. It's a far more complex and interesting game than Civ V, but you can't tell because the interface does its darnedest best to mislead you.

I just checked, and if I'm looking at the correct chart, BE hasn't completely fallen of the charts, but it is somewhere around 25th place and 20% as many users as Civ V.

Personally, I'm not that disappointed with BE overall and some aspects I really like, but I did end up starting up Civ V the other day. I just would rather wait until the patch. Plus, Civ V did just get a patch so I figured I should try it even if it is minor.

I still haven't figured out which poll you guys are referring to...

Seriously?

I think it has gotten to the point where people are better off just skipping over what you say.

Well, the UI is certainly a reason, but I don't think it's the only one. Most of the people who do complain about the game usually mention some or all of these points:
- bad interface
- bad game balance
- lack of character
- lack of difficulty
- technical issues
- boring lategame (trade routes + "nothing ever happens")
- things I may have forgotten

And I don't really see any reason to assume that these reasons not also apply to those who left the party silently.

Hi all,

I certainly agree with and relate to the commentary regarding BE's deficiencies. I am not playing the game and have also gone to Civ V as the much better game overall for me. I hope the developers can resurrect this game.

Anyway, I would like to express my appreciation to all commentators regardless of the position or comments made and the position taken including the mediators who are doing a good job.

Vigorous and robust debate is a good thing,

Cheers Mikee.

I concur with Ryika on these. I was supposed to do a second lets play on Civ:BE but I don't even feel like it and after 85hours can clearly say I'm just bored due to above reasons. Maybe some will be fixed as people expect but for me personally the game would require a very strong expansion to be at the level of fun I STILL have with BNW after 1300hours due to fundamental problems I have with BE. Doesn't stop some people to still have fun though this is only my opinion :)

I'll certainly replay after a patch but my money is on hold for any form of DLC or expansion they may release. I'll finish ACL #2, maybe propose #3 and if by then the patch is still not released I'll just ask someone to take over if there is still interest.

I have been pretty happy to make multiplayer LANs with a few of my friends.

Indeed I agree that that the game could have been a bit more polished and it definitely needs a patch, a courageous one because this is a game where ideas can be tested unlike civilization that demands a bit more conservative approach save the endgame with their X-Com squads that complement the interstellar space race victory.

The way the multiplayer AI never approaches you with deals killed my interest in LAN gaming with this game, unfortunately. At least you can run a mod in Civ 5 that de-lobotomises the multiplayer AI, but no such luck here.
