I just saw into a nearby apartment where I know the residents are German and I saw about four people doing what I can only describe as a cheesy 90s pop music coordinated dance. Looks like fun but where do they get these ideas?

I've heard going to anywhere in Germany except Berlin is like going a decade into the past in terms of pop culture too, can anyone attest to this?

To answer your first question: Germans are not weirder than everybody else but they quickly get pissed off at you, so that's the only remarkable negative trait I can recall about them in general.
Your 2nd question: I lived in Germany for nearly sixteen years of my live but found it to be the most modern countries in the world, regarding to technology and pop culture.

Yeah, I never really noticed being that behind in terms of pop culture, though Tokio Hotel seems like what American music was like about three or four years ago to my untrained ear. (Not that I like them at all.)

Judging by my own experience of Newcastle, that is definately something I would expect of the place. It has to be the drunken ugly people capital of the world.

It just seems to me that everyone has a "weird Germans" anecdote. Its not a bad thing though. Weirdness should be embraced!

Yes they are very weird. They tend to be eccentric when they are drunk which unfortunately, is very often.
