aimee, you have Asperger's syndrome. Which means you obsess about things. I don't know if you have anxiety disorder thrown in - I know two people who have anxiety/Asperger's - but if you do yes you can very easily worry yourself to vomiting. I see it all the time.

I frequently obsess about things and I used to worry a lot, but I soon resolved that by realising that worrying did absolutely nothing. Actually affecting the situation one way or another is much better than worrying and doing nothing.

How many times have you guys been preached to by someone religious?

Happened to me a couple of times on my mission. Once we were over at someone's house (they were already Mormon, we were encouraging them to come to church) some Jehovah's Witnesses came by, they didn't quite know what to do about our presence (especially when I not only could speak Spanish to them but identified them as being from El Salvador based on their accents). Another time I was home sick (we are usually gone from the house all day) and they knocked on the door to our apartment, but since I didn't answer the door I don't know what happened.

OK. So a friend of mine online said she was going to kill herself and I looked up her local police and emailed them. and she is safe now. but now her father forbids her to talk to me and the only way I knew she was safe (and about this) was through somebody else.

why would he do that??? I was only trying to help. seriously she said she had a gun and then she went offline.

did I even do the rigth thing????

I ... found out from another third party that it was all a practical joke. and this person (the "suicidal" one) was publicly calling me names on a message board were both on. I feel extremely stupid.

Sod her then. She's clearly not worth having as a friend.

but now Im REALLY not sure I did the right thing.

Oh, thanks for the answer. :D That answered two potential questions: what would happen if there were two different faiths at the door and what if the person is already of said faith.

I swear I could hear Mortal Kombat music in the background . . .

(Actually: once we went to go tract [ie knock doors] at an apartment complex, the Jehovah's Witnesses were already there. So we just went around them, got every other door while they were at the first one.)

Devious.

So, she made you feel like vomiting, for the sake of a practical joke? What message board do you both go to? Is it the one we're forbidden to mention?

Question for ya...I roomed with a guy once just off of his mission. He was telling me that sometimes people would arrange for them to come back, and when they showed up the JW missionaries were there too. How often did that happen to you?

I think that exact scenario only happened once, and it wasn't JW missionaries, it was the pastor and some others from the guy's church (7th Day Adventist). Although we did sometimes have people who were meeting with both us and the JWs at the same time (not, like, right at the same time, but you get the idea).

Did you see it as them cheating on you with the JW? Or was it more like a threesome drama?

Or maybe you felt that things would become interesting, that it would be like a real challenge against your arch-enemy in door-to-door conversion.

Maybe cheating a little bit, but . . .

The ultimate outcome of such situations had little to do with our respective proselyting skills and everything to do with what the person in question decided to do with their lives, which was up to factors beyond our control.

In my younger days when I was involved with the church, we were having a bible study group at this guys house and the JWs came ringing the doorbell. Of course we invited them in. I don't remember much about how that went, I think we argued with them about couple of translation issues in the book and then they made their excuses and left.

Years later, in London, we started getting JWs coming round once a week, my ex husband liked asking them in and debating with them.
After about four weeks he got bored with them and said "my wife is a lesbian". They never came back :D
