South America definetly needs more civs and Brasil is one I would be quite happy to see. But, my little brother who has just got into Civ, he wouldn't just like it he'd love it! (He likes soccer)
We need to think of those people who don't go on forums.

I just come into this discussion to say to SoCallian that he don't know about South American history...

Brazil don't fight for his independence but fight a lot to keep his unit... The people from my state, had war over war for 150 years.
We try to separate from Brazil with France help (1835-45) in a ten years war...

Britain help Brasil... Late we fight with Brazil, because of the british money against paraguay...

1893-4 civil war, in my state. Brazilian army just let us to kill ourselves because they have no strenght to stop the war for the republic in here...

Like my state, many others have try to separate, and has his own wars.

In 1930, my state join forces with Pernabuco and Minas, to take power. São Paulo try to resist.

Like you see, it's not such "piece of cake"...

At least, the most beautifull independence history it's not the american, but the Argentina's.The argentinnians had to drive out the british invasion. The spanish armie was defeated, and the people of Buenos Aires take arms and kick a... to the sea...
In the same night, come the notice that Spain fall in Napoleon's hands. The people of Argentina not even think about obey the invasor Emperor, so they declare his independence, and build a republic....

With all respect you are mistaken...

More Itaipú Damm is bigger than Hoovers, and now the Chinese (constructing with Brazilian tech) is even bigger...
And the Apollo program? It's fair? I think the Mir is more representative to humans than walk on the moon...
Of course some one will say that mir is just a s... But why america never reach the tech to build one? Why today america prefer to buy russian tech of use his NASA tech?

It's clear the USA is today, the far away, big State in the world, but he isn't alone...

I don't play with Brazil in my mod. But i don't play with America too... For me the capital move from London to colony, but the civ still the same...

Sorry if sounds rude. I don't mean to offend no one at all. I writing this when i drink coke... It's not about passions, it's about truth...

@Coste e Silva: sorry if I don't know too much about South Americain history. You can blame the California public school system for that. I have tried to gather what I can about south Americain culture and history. It is one of the many areas that I am interested in. But, what I ment by "Brasil just asked for their independedce" was that the Prince of Portugul simply asked his father, the King, to have Brasil as an independent state. That at least is what I have been told. I still think that Brasil should most definatly be added.

You are right about brazilian independence, it was a political choice did among nobles. Brazil first king, Pedro I, go to Portugal late to become king Pedro IV.

Just try to make clear that by other hand, Brazil fight to keep his gived status...

No problem at all... and sorry for my bad english.

The US is a lot more than England. The majority of the people here aren't even of English descent. We have all the requirements for a civ, just because we came along later doesn't mean we don't deserve to be in. Besides, the majority of civ players are American. :)

And don't forget that most of the civs are actually continuations of other ones. The English are Germans. Carthaginians were Phoenicians. Etc.

Not saying Brazil shouldn't be in, but Americans have had a much larger impact on the world than any other modern nation.

If Brasil was in Civ, I think it should be Expansionist and Agriculture (this is a new bonus, isnt it?).

Its UU could be the Cascavel Tanks. This are not the best national tanks, but they are the most famous. They could have the same caracteristics as a normal tank, but would be cheaper (like, 90, 80 shields isntead of the normal 100?) and have 3 movement pts instead of 2. Thats because they were cheaper and ligther tanks.

The leader could be Juselino Ku*****ek, the guy that builted Brasília.

Ok, if Brasil doesnt come as a new Civ I will defnetly mod the Iroquois! (as i have alredy done...)

Ok, not Juselino, it apears to me that, in the midle of his name, there is a very bad name... I never realised that... Its Kubichek, but there is a T in the middle... figure by yourself....

#3 Brazil greatest leaders:

Juscelino Ku*****ek:

+ Build Brasilia, was a skillfull politician, and an academic man. Simbolize the democracy in my country...
- Get power when Brasil had "money in pig" and spend a lot to construct Brasilia, when he could payed the international debt... Give tax isentions for multi-nationals cias.

Dom Pedro II:

+ An academic man, with noble caracter and devotion for his country.
- Didn't make the industrilization process in the rightfull time, and help to crash the first brasilian business man. It's an old man into a new world...

Getulio Vargas:

+ A gaúcho "fidalgo", Vargas take power on Brasil by force, with bases in his state and others against the central power (São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro). He made the industrialization process, all legal bases (labor Unions and Laws - Justice structure ), and a education system. Was a dictator from 1930 to 1945. In 1950 he back to presidence elect by the people.
- Was a dictator. A cauculist and heartless man. A kind of Stalin...

Obs: But more two like him and Brasil should be very diferent today...

About Israel: It's part of Babylon etnici. Like the Sumerians i think is not needed... For whom that really wanna they in game replace babilonians(even better now that you can replace sumerians...)

why does everyone want the Hebrews in there is no reason for them to be in epspecially because there are so many more deserving civilizations. Maybe if someone made a scenario about their history but otherwise i would not expect them to be added before civs like Byzantium, Khmer and Mali

fisrtly we English are not all of German decent. The Cornish (people from Cornwall) is of Celtic decent most of south east England is from Anglo-Saxon (the anglo-saxons only occupied a small amount of Germany so it is not as if a German nation came and colonised England and then rebelled) decent and the north is mainly mixture of Scandinavian and Scottish. Also various people in England could probably claim Norman decendence. This is not including all the recent immigration.

English are Germans ??? Just because the Royal Family is of German descent does not mean that all English are of German descent - the English are a mixture from all sorts of ethnic groups, including the Normans, the Scandinavians, the Celts, the Britons, and the Anglo Saxons - i.e. they are not Germans

By "Germans" I mean "Germanic". That is, they came from German tribes.

The Normans and Scandinavians were also Germanic. The Britons were Celtic peoples living in the area when the Anglo-Saxons began to settle, and were largely driven out into the northern and western areas of the land. The English are clearly a primarily Germanic people.

Ok, the problem was not that he spent the money in Brasilia, it was a good investment (my city btw), the problem was that he took too many loans with the IMF during his goverment. This started a crisis for the next president, Jânio Quadros. He was a leftist men, and started talking about not paying the loans. He quits the goverment, hoping that the congress would ask him to come back. Instead, with suport of the USA (afraid that he would not pay the loans), the army starts its dictatorship. This was in 1964.

If based on historical importance only, the next 7 civs that deserve a spot would be... (In no particular order):

Assyria
Phoenicia
Ethiopia
Mali
Khmer
Siam
Israel

I still disagree on the isralites- religion and technology USUALLY do not mix

none, they were a minor political power at best, and did not have much sway on the Polytheistic juggernaugts 'till Constatine startred bribing the poor(so i have heard) with robes and cloths to convert, and even then, the religion was an offshoot of the religion predominating that once was nation....

aaminion00, If I were you I'd replace one (though I'm not sure which yet, but certainly not ethiopia) with Nubia, as it was very important in Egypt's growth as a Nation. It was also pretty advanced, as they have found giant smelt mounds outside of the ancient city of meroe.

Xen: Too bad the UU for the Byzantines is the Dromon. I just found out today.
