The RoundTable!

Thanks Paul. :)

I hope to still get time to do this – but help is always appreciated.
Evangeline's surgery is scheduled for this Friday (with an expected 48 hour recovery time).
In the meantime, they've sent us home from the hospital with a temporary feeding tube in her nose. We're very grateful to be home with a break from the hospital, and Evangeline is doing well.
To add to all this – I got a big new project at work with a short deadline I'm trying to meet, made harder, because I will obviously be taking Friday off to be at the hospital.

For those of you who are not a part of the Civ4 MTDG – my team (Epsilon) just wiped out Team Loco. I made a special video to send them off. I think it's pretty funny… hope you enjoy!

…………………………………….

Now – for The RoundTable: Obviously we do a story on the advance to the Industrial Age… but what else? I prefer to have 2 other stories if possible, but can make do with just 1 extra story.
We could do a story on "Frigates of War: the mere sight of which cause women and children to beg for an end to war" lol – but that might be a bit too much inside baseball for everyone to enjoy.

We could do another expose' on continued decadence and lavish waste of the public purse in the continued expansion to the Councilor's Palace.

Other ideas?

Nice movie! If only our rivals in this game knew what they might get, they would be lining up to lose!

I'm not good at ideas, but some story on the BABE-SABER war perhaps? Or on Hwacha's? ("The Council recently perfected the art of rocketry" :).)

H'Watchas! I can't believe that I forgot to build one.

Okay, certainly the frigates will be our real UU the next turns... :)

But I'd like an article on it and I'd like to start building one in The Chamber soon (after market and maybe a temple) - just for representative purpose :D

I wonder if this provides some basis for an essay?

Great work on loco's goodbye.

An article detailing new military units would be useful for reminding Babe that they could set off our Golden Age if they do something stupid. Proclaiming the first Frigate launch would underscore that.

1. Advance to the Industrial Age
2. Hwach'a's and Frigates
3.... slice of life / celebrity / horoscope?

I remember General_W used to be pretty clever with the comic strips in the first Civ3 MTDG - anyone else want to take a stab at one? :mischief:

That's a great cartoon Peter!
Here's my first stab at an idea for it...

Got the whole "double meaning" thing going :mischief:

 That's indeed a great strip, and General that's simply hilarious. :goodjob: :rotfl:

That is a good one. If I were First Councilor I'd give you an award for that one. :salute:

I probably would - if I could see it
Peter's I can see - is it based on that or completely different?

I'll have to wait till I get home.

Frame 1:
Red Guy: so... now we've learned about magnetism. I wonder what we can use it for?
Yellow Guy: I've already got big plans for it.

Frame 2:
Catching some Babes!

A lot of the credit for that cartoon has to go to Peter – he's the one that found the strip! I just filled in the bubbles.

Here's my rough-draft of the stories for the next paper.
Story #1
Guns, Germs, & Steel
The Chamber
It'd be hard to miss the radical changes sweeping across the lands of The Council these days. Dramatic scientific and cultural advancements are producing awe-inspiring new machines, new methods of production, and even new insights into the human body.

Dnomaid Deraj, lead researcher for Chamberiage University, argues that this new Industrial age was brought about by "food surpluses and high degrees of interaction with outsiders which encouraged people to realize their full potential and adopt new inventions." However, this is clearly nonsense, as all thinking people realize that this great leap forward is due to the inherent superiority of The Council people.

Story #2
Hwach'a Your Step!
The Admiralty
The Council Navy Corps is buzzing with talk of the radical new weaponry ideas flowing out of the Navy's new think tank: the Subcommittee for Knowledge of Advanced Naval Kinetics.

The new weapons system revolves around the idea of placing advanced Council Artillery Hwach'a units onboard the new Frigate Class naval ships, and using them to pound enemy fortifications from sea. In a RoundTable exclusive, Admiral Whan revealed his thoughts on this new system. He said, "The greatest happiness is to scatter your enemy, to drive him before you, to see his cities reduced to ashes, to see those who love him shrouded in tears, and to gather into your bosom his wives and daughters.”
We're all glad that you're on our side Admiral!

Story #3
Cartoon

Thoughts? Edits?

I like admiral Whan - particularly, I like his use of the word bosom. Nothing like a bloodthirsty destroyer using the word "bosom"

btw - Guns, Germs and Steel is a great, great book...

Glad you liked it :)
I agree, "Guns, Germs, & Steel" is a totally fascinating book. I actually tend to hold to a more socio-political first-cause view - rather than an environmental one – but still, a totally worthwhile read. You'll notice that I (sorta) credit the author, Jared Diamond, as the researcher.

You probably knew this A.T., but for those who don't - Admiral Whan's quote is actually a semi-famous Genghis Kahn quote. :D Khan had Bosoms?!?

EDIT: And make sure you all catch the committee abbreviation in this edition's story! :mischief:

Thanks General, the subcommitte has taught me a new word... ;)

And I had never heard of either book or author, but I gathered that was his name from the mishandling of it. But that made me miss a large part of the joke. Good thing I could look it up at 'pedia. Looks like a fascinating read. :)

Yes, I knew I had head that bosom line before.
Genghis eh... hehe. No surprise there.

:)

Great line-up for the next issue. Can we really bombard with h'watchas on frigates? I have read Guns, germs and steel but didn't recognize the author. I liked the book though.

No - that's just me trying to wedge Hwach'a and Frigates into the same story.

We can't even put H'wachas on frigates. Nor can we bombard with them on Galleons. That would have been great otherwise, with lethal bombardment.
