"Hold On" (Kansas)
Look in the mirror and tell me what do you see?
What have the years of your life taught you to be?
Innocence dying in so many ways,
Things that we dream of are lost, lost in the haze....
CHORUS
Hold on, baby hold on
'Cause it's closer than you think
And you're standing on the brink
Hold on, baby hold on
'Cause there's something on the way
Your tomorrow's not the same as today
Do you recall what you felt when you were done wrong?
Someone who stood by your side, a face you have known?
Where do you go when it's too much to bear?
Who do you turn to in need when nobody's there?
(CHORUS)
Outside the door He is waiting, waiting for you
Sooner or later you know He's got to come through
No hesitation and no holding back
Let it all go and you know you're on the right track
(CHORUS)
--Kerry Livgren (Kansas)
I absolutely LOVE Kansas, especially the songs "The Wall", "Cheyenne Anthem", "Portrait", "Questions of my Childhood" and "Carry On Wayward Son"--but THIS song ("Hold On") always gives me comfort in times of trouble....
P.S. I also am a big fan of John Mellencamp--especially "Paper and Fire"--thought of that in the midst of recent events, too....
