Hans "Viking"'s Journal
If you're not me or a superior, get out!
Oh god, where am I now. A couple years ago, and I was a greenhorn in the navy, and now I'm in an international police force. Well, a bunch of nations responded to the bombing of Britian's Parliament, including mine of Denmark's. They wanted a bunch of highly trained operatives to go from country to country and destroy terrorist threats. I get that. What I don't get is:
Why did my country pick me?
Well, that's simple. Lottery. All branches got together, submitted all current members on duty, and picked a name out of the hat (Not literally, I assume, but it wouldn't surprise me). I'm the "lucky" person, so I lose all my progress in the navy, and here I am, in the newly established SSD. My uncle will think I'm the enemy, "the man", but I don't really care. That man was an insane nutjob, but good god he cold a bomb out of a leftover meal.
So, since my country said screw it and just did a lottery, we got our member quicker than all the nations, other than France. Then again, they proposed the SSD, they must already had their member in mine. But for some reason, they withheld my name, and told me not to tell it. Wanted to "protect me" in case the unit was disbanded. Now that the unit is here to stay, the SSD has my actual name, but the unit will still probably call me Viking. I don't mind, that sounds highly patriotic and fearsome. Not everyone's nation held a continent in fear for a half a century
But anyways, that French dude was a former spy, (His code name was Red Spy, in fact) and he looks highly experienced in his field. Pretty sane, actually, and we get along well. The next member to come was an American named Wayne. And do I hate that guy. He's insane, an egomaniac, and cocky. I want an open mind, but he fits all the negative stereotypes of Americans besides being overweight. Then afterwards was our captain, a Russian by the name of Andropov. Only female of the original unit, because why not? I like how this international unit was planned out. We got an American, we got a Russian, we even have a French, and then... a Dane. Because when people think of foreign countries, they think Denmark.
So, we go onto our mission. We met some British guy, and he told us our destination was Miami. I was disappointed we were going by plane, as I would had loved showing them how well I can drive a boat. So, we go to a motel across the street of a drug ring. The ring was also a gas station. So, the mission was to capture, alive, a guy called "Carmillo". He obviously knows something, for why would the UN hunt a petty drug lord down? So, two Carmillos appear out of a limo; one stays near it, and one goes in. Gunfire occurred, and Andropov follows. I had a plan to use my rocket launcher to blow up the pumps. But everyone told me "No, we don't need the attention" (Bullcrap), or "You'll kill him (Possibility, but one I was willing to take). But the group decided no, so I just moped about in the room. I was literally useless on this mission if they wouldn't let me blow anything up.
Eventually, I grab a pistol, a M1911, and run down to the gas station. Andropov was in a gun fight, and red Spy and I flanked. I offered to blow the door down, but he wouldn't let me do my job, again. I got on this team as a demoman, and a Demoman I should be! I manage to kill a guy, and Wayne clears the limo. But Carmillo was fleeing to his marina. I wanted to hotwire a car, but Andropov just had to mention some keys on the ground. I swear, these people don't want to let me have any fun.
I take driver, and Andropov hops in. I try to park for Wayne, but he hops on while I'm still going full speed, and he never actually enters the car. Red Spy is more sane. I drive towards the marina. A bunch of grunts try to block me, so I floor it. Andropov and Red Spy are firing, and the former thankfully blocks Wayne. But he inches forward and fires straight at Carmillo, hitting him in the spine. Then he tells us that it wasn't fatal. If I wasn't driving, I would had slapped him. I had to swerve out of the way not to hit the dude, but I managed to get some grunts, and then I blew up a boat. So, Andropov, the only one with medical experience gets out of the car and rushes to Carmillo, who is still alive. Wayne tries butting in against his captain, and in the midst of their bickering, he dies. We failed our introduction mission.
So, all the countries in the agreement debate if we should keep us. Meanwhile, they give everyone but Wayne a nice Caribbean vacation. We even have two new members, a Swiss who goes by by "Erzengel", and a Korean, Aerial Aeris, who claims that Korea is unified and she played a role in it (Let the sleeping dog lie, I guess). But of course, terrorists take it over. They tell everyone to go into auditorium, but I knew it was a trap. I tell Red Spy not to go, but he eventually does. Erzengel goes, but heads back before they notice him. The girls I never heard of until later. I grab the bare enstelials (my pistol and my hand grenades), and sneak into the vents. After a very, very long time, I reach the bridge... and I realized I needed C4 to blow down the door. So I head back, got my C4, and get back to the bridge.
I plant the C4, head into a side room, and I see dead hostages and thugs. Don't know, but it was a little unnerving. I blow up the door, and I could hear the swears from my hideaway. One thug comes up, with a sub-machine, and I sneak around and pop one in his head. But his gun was better than mine, so I grab it. Ezengel comes and gives me back-up, and later, so does Aries. Apparently, they snuck around a more conventional, but slower, way than me. Aries wasn't assigned her guns yet, so I tossed her my pistol and we fought the remaining thugs, with me leading the battle plan. One grenade later, and all but two are dead. Of course, it was the bosses of the group. The woman escapes, while the man stays behind. But down below on the deck was... Andropov.
She was on thermite, and he threatened to blow her up, with a deadman's switch. Or, we could had let him go. So, I tackled him. We hit the glass, and the both of us fell into the ocean. Either he was out of range, or it was a bluff, because he pressed the detonator and it didn't go off. I saved our captain. :D
But then he tried to knife me. I punched him straight in the face and swam the to the boat, because I felt like I could drown any second. I was so exhausted from all the tunneling. I had to let him escape, but none of the SSD died. But hostages did, so I thought the UN would have our heads. But they actually congratulated us and said we're permanent. Oh, I think Red Spy is a reformed arsonist, for he set part of the boat on fire. On purpose. Near Civilians. Wow.
Due to my leadership role, they offered to extend my vacation back at base. I did so; I needed a freaking break from Wayne. I took the time decorating my room with my nation's naval ensign, a picture of my parents, a model of the KMS Absalon, and this journal (Which they told me I had to write in English, because everyone speaks it in this unit, and if any of my higher-ups want to read it...) I also got to meat some new members. The first was a former USN captain, Svensgaard, who I'd love to converse with on our respective navies. Another Russian woman (What's with Russia sending women?), Sasha, followed afterwards. Then was "Mosher", who either was a hell a lot older than he looks AND an served for the Nazis, or doesn't know his militaries. Finally, it was another Korean, male this time, who also thought Korea is unified (What is up with that?) So, they told me the gist of the mission; some Italian crimelord had a party, goal was to capture. And Wayne is both a mass-murderer and suicidally overconfident
Oh dear lord...
(OOC mode: Yes, this was supposed to be this disorganized. It's a journal, not a novel
