I have read the wiki article, saying it comes from Gibson, the author of cyberpunk novels. But that page says he reserved no special meaning for it.

I am interested due to the fact than in Greek it is "kybernochoros", and "kyberno" is a greek term which means to "rule". So it has rather ominous connotations, and i was wondering if they are accurate/widely accepted as part of the english version of the term as well.

Either way kybernochoros is a rather gloomy term...One can begin to imagine future enslavement by it :)

I think of cyberspace as a term describing a place, I've also heard the internet referred to as a 'frontier' of sorts. So even though the internet isn't really a place, in the physical sense that I can walk there, it serves as some sort of abstraction or romanticism of this 'place' we all visit.
