Suprisingly, a lot of people I've talked to haven't heard about this. If you're a student enrolled at least half-time at a school that gives you a .edu email address, you can buy Office Ultimate 2007 for $60 (1/10th retail price) through April 30.

I just wish I still had a school email so I could take advantage of it. :(

And a .edu address isn't necessary, any university will suffice.

According to the eligibility requirements, it is:

You must hold a valid email address at a U.S. educational institution ending in .edu (for example, leina@contoso.university.edu)

I've already got Home and Student ($50/license, so a bit cheaper, plus I got it before The Ultimate Steal existed), but a couple questions of curiosity:

*Do you get the commercial Word/Excel/etc. license that Office Business et. al. normally gives? I know the Home and Student Word says "for non-commercial use", and the developer tools option (which I've already taken advantage of) specify that, even though it is the Professional version, you still have to purchase it at retail price to actually use it for commercial uses - it's designed as being for education/learning. It doesn't disallow continuing to use the free professional version after graduation, it just doesn't allow for it being used commercially. I wouldn't be surprised to see a similar restriction on the Ultimate Steal, given the low price.

*Is Access, Publisher, Outlook, etc. worth the extra change over Home and Student? Access is good if you need it, but for most people it seems Excel suffices. Publisher I can see being a much better deal at this price than most comparable software, but again not everyone's going to need it. And Thunderbird is a free alternative to Outlook. I'm not sure either is necessary if you have relatively few email addresses. Of course if you don't intend to take advantage of all the licenses on Home and Student it's better to go with the Ultimate Steal, but if you do, Home and Student is still cheaper.

Don't get me wrong, these are very good deals, but, at least in the Visual Studio/Windows Server 2003/SQL Server one, there is at least one string attached.

Is there a limit how many you can buy?

2007 is fugly. Stick with 2003.

If you have the money to spare and are a student, I really recommend this. Imho, 2007 is much more usable than 2003 or OO.
