Deep inside...
I guess they are more powerful than I thought... well, if they even managed to make Al Gore a Nobel winner... :mischief:

Anyways, this is the first time I tried this so I don't know if it was like this before or if it is a new "feature" of BTS 3.17.

The greek build the UN in my latest game, and started proposing resolutions that I did not like. As I was barely in balance with my happiness, I decided to not defy the resolutions and bet for the destruction of the UN later in the game (as the greek were going for cultural anyways, the attack to destroy the UN city was unavoidable).

So I carefully planned my attack, built up for the blitzkrieg, executed the plan, and destroyed the two best greek cities, with the UN HQ included.

Big was my surprise when I saw that, even without a HQ, the already passed resolutions stayed in effect!!!

So, I have to stay in Environmentalism even if I destroyed the UN!

Is this WAD, or a new bug?

I don't know what "WAD" stands for, and I don't know if it is a bug or not. But I'm in a very similar situation in my current game. Sitting Bull is due for a cultural victory in about 20 turns, and I'm just about to go to war and flatten his city with the UN... I was also a bit put out by having to switch to environmentalism, so it is good to at least know that I won't change that by destroying the UN. (Although, I kind already accepted that the environmentalism would be permanent and so I've been building all sorts of unhealthy buildings that I probably wouldn't have used if I stayed with Free Market.)

It has been that way since day 1. Destroying the UN wonder doesn't eliminate the UN organization.

WAD probably = working as designed.

I don't think it's a bug, comparing to other wonders. None of the others lose their past effects when you destroy their city. Eg their previous cultural output remains.

Personally I don't like either the UN or AP effects on gameplay, so I play with the diplo victory off. That means those two wonders can't be built by anyone.

the no chop and head for Democracy gambit pay off in the Emancipation and Environmentalism non UN owning scenario with razing. An Eco civ should benefit in the later rounds.
A Facist warmongering Eco Civ can benefit even more.

ok, now I know. You learn something everyday, even if you play a game since its first iteration!:lol:

Now, to be clear: destroying the HQ does not destroy the organization, someone said.

Does that mean that even after razing the UN to the ground, they continue to propose and vote resolutions?

Or does the razing at least stop the functioning from there on?

Same question for diplo victories: razing the UN stops the diplo victory process? (as when you destroy enemy capital and destroy enemy spaceship, halting Space victory)

If you raze UN the passed resolutions will not disappear and they will stay forever.

I would guess that no UN means no more resolutions but it does not undo what has already passed.

The UN building is just a building. They can use a different building, if they have to.

If I burn down the White House, will the United States federal government cease to exist? We tried that once IRL and it didn't work.

Well, it might kill the president and his aides and stuff, sending the government in chaos.

This is exactly what happens.

I was in the same situation in my last game, got annoyed by the silly resolutions and razed the UN city. No new resolutions, but the old ones stay.

Oh but it didn't even do that. Madison took off long before the troops arrived (in fact, he left long before his wife did).

I'm talking about a modern day attack, say some one sets off a suitcase nuke at the White House then all people in Washington D.C. would be dead sending government into chaos.

The UN will keep voting on resolutions if you destroy it.

Not really because there's a shadow administration that just swaps in if that happens. There are alot of redundancies built in so it will have no effect other than a severe blow to morale.

Even the economy is set up that way - look at 911, losing the WTC didn't cause all the major corporations to collapse, didn't even register as much more than a minor blip on the stock markets. If Osama was hoping that he'd be throwing the US economy into disarray he must have been sorely disappointed (at least, by 911 anyway). He would have done more damage getting into banking and giving out subprime mortgages.
