The Unique Historical Victory Record Thread

Well, I think that the players who limit themselves only to the UHV's are losing something. I, for example, won the French UHV, now I want to try playing France again, only as a greedy militaristic power not interested much in colonies, wonders and culture... There are much more possibilities to play them just going for the UHV's.

I agree with you. I'm playing China in Epic right now, and I deliberately didn't go after the UHV. I'm going to try to win some other way. I got the first two though to get the Arch and GA. :)

As I said I played them all on viceroy in vanalla so I'm not sure how these stragegies are compared to other difficulties.

The hardest ones I found were the ones you said Persia, Incas and Mongols

Persia: Go after India first, you starting military should be enough. I usually put my extra settler on the horses to the north because of the barbarian activity. My beginning archers go after the barbarians to the left. Workers should connect your cites while you cities should build horses. After India is secure take whats left of the barbarians.

At this point I have my capital build wonders while my army goes and takes Greece if they are weak or Egypt. If you take Greece, take Egypt next. Keep checking f8 stop if you want when you hit about 7%. While you are doing this research to music and build a settler. Build a city in the middle of africa and use the great artist there, this should give about 8%. Other then that run specialists in Delhi for two prophets. When your land is secure finish what wonders are left.

Incas: The hardest civ to be. Research bronze working and turn off research and get slavery. Slow research to sailing and then any tech that will get you to guilds. For cities I took the 4 settlers, founded the capital, one city to the south. Razed the barbarian city and put a city one square south of it on the desert and the fourth to the north of it near the gold. Have all cities building barracks the north city builds walls first. Have workers hook up copper. After barracks build catapults, axes and spears, whip whenever you can. Put all these units in the north city. Use the barbarian axes to upgrade an axe to level 4 and send him out for mersenary duty. Run specialists in a city, I like to run them in the city west of capital and save those great merciants.

When your units start to cost you money switch cities to wealth and move a warrior in the north to the gulf of mexico. This is where you need some luck. When they find you they will attack first, hope that its in the north city. Also hope that they don't have gunpowder or horses yet. The time I won England had maces, pikes and catapults. After they attack you can attack back, clear them all. After you get sailing build a boat and put any GM on them and send them to the aztecs. Trade with the aztecs any way you can get techs that put you closer to guilds. After the event and you secure your cities start building settlers.

Turn back on research and go the rest of the way to guilds, trade as much as you can. Send you military out to cover the coast looking for anyone who is going to land. If they do, declare and kill their units. This is where you need some luck again. In my game my largest stack of axes had France land right next to them. Get peace as soon as you can. After you get guilds you can turn off research again or go for banking, it depends on the date. As you build more cities your gpt should go up. When it doesn't stop and start building units again. Get grocers whenever you get guilds and banks if you get banking. You should get a second great merciant by now which should also go to the aztecs. Once you hit 5000 gold make sure you settle the entire contient and the third condiction should be easy.

Mongols: Declare on China in the beginning. The army in the beginning should be able to do it. Have all cities build settlers and have them settle all of siberia. Use Beijeng get you a great artist. Use them to expand your boarders to where you can't settle. There should be enough space in siberia and eastern Russia. Doesn't matter how useless the cities are. Didn't even put anyone in the cities until I was near 12%. After I have my 12% then I built some units and launched an attack on India.

Hope this helps, Incas by far took the longest and I didn't like how much luck it involves, still think they need one commerse on the mountains because you don't want to use the mountains if you are going for 5000 gold. Good luck

I just the last campain therefore i have now beat all of the civs on easy. And just in time for BTS.

That sounds really fun! :)

Cheers mate ill take what you said about the Incas and Mongols into my next games with them. Im close with the Incas (and I thought I was with the Mongols but that 12% is a little beyond my reach) so ill be playing them till I have completed them...or made myself sick.

I use Warlords and play on Monarch but broad strategies should work between types and difficulties.

Oh I agree 100% that a player should not only try to get the UHVs, but they are a lot of fun though when you do get them! You really also have a truer appreciation of just how much thought and care went into this mod as most if not all of the UHVs help you in re-creating a world very similar to the one today.

Actually, when I first started playing this mod, I thought most of these UHVs were impossible! I even called the Persian and Indian UHVs impossible here! Now I've completed both. :) Wasn't easy but I can say that completing these UHVs have made me a better player at Civ as they force you to focus on one aspect of the game and excel at it (aggressive expansion, micromanaging Great People, leading in the tech race, building wealth, etc)

Spain: Did it pre and pro-conquest event.

I think you meant post-conquest :p , but no worries.

I'm trying to get the UHV for the Maya (Monarch level), but for three consecutive plays I can't even get the first requirement, the Temple of Kukulkan. Not because I'm doing something wrong, but because someone else builds it first, and builds it way too fast for me to be able to do anything about it. I mean, I go for CoL right at the beginning, and start building the Temple as soon as it's available, but always get beaten to it about half-way through.

That is one small beef I have with this mod. The fact that some UHVs are 100% dependant on pure luck: If the other civs play a certain way (which usually seems to be the way they prefer to play), you don't stand a chance in getting the UHV. I've had the same experience with Ethiopia (everybody seems to LOVE getting Theology, once Christianity was founded BEFORE I came into play) and India (the Judaism factor). I mean, I understand that UHVs are meant to provide a challenge and I like that, but it's frustrating to have to restart several games just to be able to have a shot at the UHV.

(All on Monarch)

Egypt, India, China, Babylonia, Greece, Persia, Carthage, Rome, Japan, Ethiopia, Maya, Viking, Arab, America. (I like this UHV stuff) :)

On the Maya: it sounds like you've had really bad luck. It took me 2 tries to get a map where the AI hadn't had a tech explosion and gotten way ahead. Annoying, but without a redesign of the UHVs, all you can do is start up and check what Wonders have been built to see if it's even worth trying for the UHV...

Read my sig.

On Viceroy: Greece (to see how easy it was to trade and research versus Monarch; I noticed the trading differences on Monarch as soon as I tried Rhye's the first time), and Babylon, since I still can't do it on Monarch...

Monarch UHV's I've tried but haven't completed yet: Babylon, India, Incas.

The German game I just completed: I noticed when I was one turn away from the UHV that I was also 1% land area away from a domination victory; having Roman, French, Russian, Viking, and Greek lands, but also vassalizing Mali and Inca (peacefully), as well as capitulations by Spain and Portugal. I was also six turns from a Space Race victory - I should see which one will give me the most points at the end. I saved it that one turn before my UHV.

Here we can post the UHVs we have accomplished successfully and on what difficulty level. This way, we can see which UHV is the easiest and which one no one or almost no one is getting.

Here are mine:

Greece Fun, not particularly difficult, be interesting to play Greece in a militaristic way outside of the UHV

This is pretty much what I've been doing lately. My latest strategy was to found on Thebai, to see if that made a difference. I ended up planting the collosseum in my capital + barracks + vassalage for quick 3 promotion units... Plus very good terrain for producing units.

hehe, funny you mention it; I've been playing my last 2 games as Greece being a bit of a warmonger. First game, I was pretty successful; I conquered Turkey, had a naval invasion of a weak Egypt and made friends with Arabia after a surprisingly tough Babylon (had Longbowmen a few turns after Greece spawned) finally collapsed.

Was the most advanced civ, building wonders and getting GP in huge amounts and all was going well until...Turkey. They asked for my Turkish cities, I refused, unfortunately my army just got decimated because of plague, would up losing those cities, became unstable and decided to play Greece all over again.

2nd time I'm kinda emulating Alexander the Great: conquered Turkey, Babylon, Persia and Egypt though the Camels are giving me a tough time of it. Arabia and me are tense since I have the Christian Holy Center instead of going from pagan to free religion in my last game, so I have a bigger empire and I'm more militaristic but probably not as advanced as before. Gave up my Israeli cities to Arabia in the flip as they are pretty worthless with low production and a drain on the economy.

Next move will be to invade Arabia, shouldn't be hard with elephants. Much to my surprise, Greece can be a very powerful civ militarily if played correctly.

Biggest challenge will be "The Turkish Question" Personally I feel I have no choice but to concede the cities in the flip but gear up for war shortly thereafter.

Well, playing as Greece in vanilla, I have the advantage of not having to deal with the turks.

The most fun I had with Greece was playing it as the ancient greeks actually were: the pirates of the meditterenean. Razed hattusas, raized sur, captured iarusalem, and so on. The crowning moment was when I razed Roma. Yeah. Suck it Romans!
