I don't really see what people like in Nimoy. I found his voice rather boring and often silly, and compeltely lacking in emotion.
Sid's one is nothing to write home for, but at least it flowed better and was a bit more energetic.

Because it's Spock, and because it's the voice people heard first and are therefore more used to.

No actually, I believe the audio content was more... well fleshed out in cIV... except the future tech GWB quote :)

Spock or not :)

Yeah, I like most of the quotes themselves better in IV. I wonder if they tried to make them all "new" and ran out of good ones?

I 'spose there's a limit to the new and innovative ways you can segue in the discovery of Iron Working :)

Okay, now that we've established that Nimoy is Captain Civ, I can begin compiling the tech monologues; the basic outlay of the playlist will consist with mainly tech quotes, three or four wonder quotes, some quotes from entering a new era, a couple of quotes from DLC technologies, two leader monologues and one victory speech.

I'm also considering how to poll more on the actual quotes themselves without simply looking like ultra-spamming polls and threads.

BTW, as far as quotes go, nothing beats Morgan Sheppard's Chichen Itza quote.

Sid Meier (if that was the man himself voicing) guiding you through the tutorial, that I thought was a good touch having the Sid teach you the basics of his opus.
As for the main narrator...

From what I have heard... Nimoy.

Other idea artists who I believe would be ideal to narrate Civilization...

Temuera Morrison
Malcolm McDowell
Morgan Freeman
James Earl Jones
Anthony Hopkins
Mark Hamill
Hugo Weaving
George Takei
Art Malik
Ernie Dingo

You more or less want someone at least sounds like they've been around long enough to be considered wise. So far Nimoy and Sheppard manage to convey their words in that very tone.

When I hear Sid Meier I think "this isn't the right voice for this game what is going on"
When I hear Spock I think "oh hey it's spock"
When I hear Sheppard I think "hey I don't recognize this guy from anything I'm free to associate his voice with the game and not Star Trek"

At first mistook Sheppard for Patrick Stuart. I thought, "Oh, we have Picard this time!"

I still insist they sound similar!

Same here for the mistaking bit; for the longest time I thought it was Patrick Stuart, until I read differently here and then went and looked at the credits.

For voice, Morgan Sheppard. I like Nimoy, but I think Sheppard's better.

For quotes, Civ4 far and away over Civ5. The Civ4 quotes are much better known and more appropriate. It's amusing that both 4 and 5 use the same quote (effectively) for Steel (John Henry). They'd have been better served if they'd simply kept 90% of the Civ4 quotes.

For Civ6, if it should occur, I'd like to hear the Civ3/4 "In the beginning" done by James Earl Jones.

I like the idea of new quotes, since, for a new game, they should be. I just wish they were better quotes. Then again, I'm not sure I could think of better ones (except philosophy, which should be "There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy").
