*sigh* Didn't any of you learn from the Resistence Movement in the Huntington GoldBluffCasino thread? We could have said, "special forces numbering 500,000 came and took the city!", when infact, the city wasn't retaken until a couple of turns later.
Besides, even if there WAS life on the island, there'd be extremely small clumps of grass/moss - provided they even had a chance at surviving. An island of this magnitude appearring would certainly cool the global tempretures down, causing more winterstorms and dust to travel through.
When the Hoover Dam was built, had they poored the concrete in one felled swoop, and not section by section, it would still be cooling. Concrete has a heating effect when it cools. It would have taken 50-75 years for it to cool off, and that would be just one slice of the mountain. It would take a few centuries at the very least for a huge island like that to cool off - maybe even several thousand years. Now, had we had this storyline back at the start of the game, it might be feasible.
I'll tell you what. If we get a cold, icy world next game, start this thread, but you can't even BEGIN to use the island under 3 conditions:
1 - The area's been explored in the game
2 - You can get there by the
correct naval tech
3 - It's been a couple thousand years so that it can cool off and actually start to have vegetation.
Also, you can't just "take over" the island in 1 post. I was wondering why the English and Chinese weren't on the map anymore. Sure the English are defeated, but, that could have been their last stronghold. (provided they were in special crafts and houses...). How would you make food? Aquatic Farming? Do we even have a required 'tech' for that? Even if we HAD Aquatic Farming, do you think anything's living within a hundred miles of the island? Probably not. Earthquakes, lava flows into the ocean, etc. kills off coral reefs, which disrupts the eco-system.

I'm starting to sound like my 9th grade science teacher!
