Welcome to yet another CYOA! These seem to be trending at the moment, and I could not resist offering yet another vibrant setting to choose from. And the best thing about these CYOA's? They are fast paced and take little to no time at all to participate in!

Now, what is so special about this particular CYOA? I will not be trying anything too fancy, however the setting shall be the Wheel of Time universe made famous by the 14 book series by Robert Jordan. If you are familiar with the series you will no doubt revel in the chance to play a role in the story from a brand new viewpoint and potentially alter the course of events that are taken. If you are UNfamiliar, I truly hope that this CYOA inspires you to pick up the first book and start reading as it is a truly amazing experience.

We shall begin 6 months before the start of the book series, and so the start date is October 2nd, Year 997 of the New Era.

Background

Now, there are some basic things you should know about the world before we get started, and I hope the rest will become clear over time as you travel the world.

1. 3,000 years ago, there was a great War of Power between the forces of Light, and Shai'tan, otherwise known as the Dark One. Lews Therin Telamon, otherwise known as the Dragon, led the forces of Light against the Dark One and his 12 most powerful servants, called the Forsaken.

2. This 'War of Power' concluded the second age, also known as the Age of Legends. This age ended when the Dragon sealed the Dark One and the Forsaken in a prison outside of space and time with his 100 male Companions. The Light was victorious, however, at a cost.

3. The Wheel of Time (WoT) is set in a Fantasy Time period. Technology is generally medieval, with magic coming from the 'One Power'. Females control the Saidar side of this magic, and males control the Saidin side. Technology and use of the power was far more advanced in the 2nd age than it is now, 3000 years later.

4. When the Dragon sealed the Dark One away, he only used Male channelers (magic users), and the Dark One 'tainted' Saidin. From this point on, all male channelers went insane over time, causing 'The Breaking' which released massive amounts of near random magic into the world, changing the very geography of the world constantly for 200 years until the world was restored to order. Ever since, female 'Aes Sedai' have hunted men who can channel to kill them.

5. Your story will revolve around the fact that you have just discovered you are one of these men, a man who can channel and use Saidin (magic) to accomplish his ends, as long as he can prevent himself from going mad from the taint.

Stats are fairly self explanatory. Ta'veren is a secret until later. Saidin is hinted at earlier in the post and will be explained more fully as your character learns about it. The rest are basic stats that will depend on your character. You can also pick up additional skills as you travel and live life, such as gambling, battlefield tactics, or blacksmithing if you so wish.

Choosing the Starting Character

Option A

A soldier in the Borderlands, specifically posted near Chachin in Kandor, sworn to defend the Blight against all manner of Shadowspawn and evil creatures from the north. Will be well off stat wise, but will be a dangerous position both in terms of being discovered a man who can channel as well as being in physical danger from Shadowspawn.

Option B

An older, middle class businessman with distant relations in the nobility of neighboring nations, who resides in Far Madding to the southeast which is an independent city state. Due to the unique nature of the city, the power cannot be felt or used within its limits, and you have not left the city since you were a boy until recently, when you left briefly and realized you could channel. Will be useless stat wise at the beginning, with a greater chance of going mad quicker, but will progress in terms of power with Saidin quicker.

Option C

The young son of a farmer in northern Murandy, north of Lugard, you are a sturdy lad who knows nothing of the world, Average stats, but you are in the middle of nowhere, and nobody will notice you minding your own business right?

Once you choose your starting character, stats will be assigned, and you will be given your first choices to make!

I will try to keep this as fast paced as I can in order to keep interest up, however most updates will likely occur in the early afternoon or late evening of the EST time zone. Exceptions may occur.

Option A

I shall give it until 1 PM EST today, then stats shall be revealed, and the game shall commence!

Thats simply my favored option. Choose as you wish.

Nonetheless, welcome aboard everyone!

I was referring to joining at all, the farmboy thing was entirely my own discretion ;)

Option A Wins!

You are a young soldier, 17 years of age, who has been with the army for a little over 5 years. You were first brought to the border with your father when you were 12 and he was serving a tour of duty away from your farm.

You are truly beginning to fill out and come of age...the most common age to discover one can channel. For females this is regarded as a gift; one would go to the White Tower and be trained as an Aes Sedai, named by some as a witch and by others as mysterious heroes, and live for hundreds of years as one of the most powerful and influential beings in the world. But for a man...it is a death sentence.

Every time you reach out for the One Power, for the True Source, you can feel the taint of the Dark One touching you. It curdles your stomach, it feels as if you are bathing in slime...and yet...and yet...when you touch the source you are alive. You hear better, you see farther, your touch is more sensitive, you taste as if for the first time, you smell every vibrant odor from a hundred paces away...you notice everything.

You are a soldier, yet you are also a male channeler, destined to go mad. What choice do you have? Will you forge your own destiny, or accept fate?

Option A: ...Your unit has just received orders to move north and pursue a force of Trollocs, shadow creatures, into the northern Blight to rescue the women and children they have stolen. You could act as if nothing has changed and go with them, to do your duty...

Option B: ...There are rumors in the West, towards Saldaea, of a False Dragon. A False Dragon is a man who can channel that claims to be the Dragon Reborn, ready to fight and defeat the Dark One at the Last Battle, which the False Dragon is coming soon. This False Dragon is gathering supporters, and he might be able to teach you how to channel. However he is sure to attract attention...

Option C: ...While the North is the border to the Shadow, and is where you have lived all your life, perhaps it would be best to go south and live your life in obscurity. A man who can channel. Why would you force that upon your homeland? Yet that is walking away from duty, deserting your brothers in arms, and venturing into strange lands which you might not understand or be treated fairly in...

The choice is yours.

A we are bound to our duties.

Option A Wins!

Your unit of 50 men pursue the Trollocs hard, riding through the night and heavily using your spare horses. After 6 days of hard riding, you catch up to the Trolloc force, which is larger than expected, outnumbering you 10:1. However it is clear at least some of the women and children are still alive and not eaten.

Your commander orders a stealth attack at first light, then for your force to split into groups of 5 and escort the rescued prisoners in many directions. Several of the more grizzled veterans in your force think it wiser to simply retreat, and the younger ones simply wish to charge the force head on, however neither party will defy orders without a leader...

Option A: ...Listen to the Veterans who have decades of experience, and lead any who wish to back south in a retreat, hoping the Trollocs do not notice you...

Option B: ...Charge! And hope everyone else follows your lead...

Option C: ...Follow Orders. Do your duty.

Option C Wins!

You follow orders and help lead the men in a stealth attack. Before you get to the prisoners chained up in the center of the camp however, you personally trip over a Trolloc, and with the blink of an eye the unit is surrounded by angry Trollocs pressing from all directions.

During the fight, you come face to face with a Myrddraal, a wraith like creature with no eyes. Its stare freezes your entire being, and you realize "The stare of the Eyeless is death" truly is accurate. Its black poisoned sword swishes in the air as it glides towards you, as if it has marked you out as special...

Option A: ...You feel something special inside you, something strange. You think it might be the One Power trying to help you out in this fight, but you are as yet untrained and anything might happen if you embrace the source...

Option B: ...Fight the shadow creature (choose defensive or offensive) in a duel...

Option C: ...Run to another part of the battle. No soldier would fault a man for this...

Option D: ...Attempt to speak with the creature...

Option A. The Power Within.

...Its a 1-1-1 tie.

Will give it an hour or two for a tiebreaker to appear.

Worth noting is after this last update there shall be a hiatus until sunday night because of Mother's Day Weekend and I wont be near a proper computer in all likelihood.
