Im currently in a culture Pangaea game with Portugal as my neighbor. I intend to upgrade to choppers, a bomb portugal, and wage a war of attrition (pillage) the surrounding Portugal country side....are choppers resistant to nuclear fallout?

I just played my first BNW game as Poland and the found the Winged Hussar to be somewhat mediocre. The only reason to have them is to kill other mounted units, and those can easily be killed with pikemen. Poland's strength seems to be the free social policy on era advancement.

I just ally with a city-state that gives me Keshiks. And im Poland. Winged Hussars and Keshiks. This will be fun.

Casamir on the phone- "yeah, all other world leaders, I think you should just give up and declare me ruler... Yes I'm serious... Well, here's the deal, budapest has recently given me FOUR keshik divisions... Yes, that kind o keshik... Yeah, just get all the crap out of your palace by monday and we'll be cool, allright?"

These wings were designed to generate noise that horses which were not accomodated with from their very first years of life could barely stand. Not only enemy animals were affected but also the enemy itself. During hussars attack, enemy ranks suffered a great level of disorder and fear due to the sound generated by their wings as well as a general image of a charging unit in extremely dense charge formation of a heavily armoured and winged men.

People saying the winged hussars are useless b/c they are lancers obviously havent tried them. Thanks to polands awesome free social policy on era up ability, you can easily nab that 6 foreign legion unit freedom tenet well before anyone else would be able to. Let those 6 infantry and a few hussars loose on one civ and they are going to have a very difficult time stopping you, use the legions to soak up the damage and take cities while the hussars annihilate pesky units and drive them back from the cities. Of all the civs i have tried playing so far they are possibly my favorite.

They've got a number of other minor useful things going for them too that I havent seen mentioned. 5 movement for one means you can bounce in and away easily and keep up with pillaging, and they start with Shock I as well, which combined with the Ducal Stable's XP bonus means even new ones can become ridiculously elite. Even if you've got only 4 turns til Combined Arms, very late on, and you're needing anti-tanks, that's enough to get another 2 or 3 very quick WHs and upgrade them, which will have the Heavy Charge push, and can instantly start on Shock III and one additional promotion. Movement 3 anti-tanks (thanks to the mounted-only Mobility) that come pre-loaded and can be as few as 10XP off of Blitz or March could be very useful if you find yourself in a defensive situation where you're fending off Landships. (oh and they would also have Formation against mounted too, in case of any Cavalry :p )

I haven't entirely been able to field them en mass and get them as highly promoted as is possible, but even in their limited use for me I was able to shunt a massively superior Infantry unit away from one of my Artillery peices and into the path of my main forces to finish it off. Plus Poland in general has an awesome ability, and the Ducal Stable bonus applies to all mounted units and puts additional gold onto the map on fairly common tiles, which double in value in a golden age. Really loving Poland's versitility in general.

Right, and we likely won't. I doubt one can build a massive war campaign around them like Mongolia can with Keshiks, for example. They're more of a really good support unit, and since those units don't get into enough fights, they won't get that massive XP from drawn out wars.

I guess if you got into a protracted war against a foe intent on sending wave after wave of cavalry after you, then you might be able to field an elite crop of Hussars, but I think most opponents would quickly switch their cav to Pikes once they realize who they're messing with :)

Just had the best "What if" Scenario in my game
Siam at his Peak spamming Narusean vs Poland at its peak with a handful of W. Hussar!

Honestly that was the most fun in a civ brawl I've had in a while...I had my Hussar upgraded with wounded promotion, because the truth is those Elephants are no Joke! It was fun tho watching my Hussars beat them back in one attack, and have another follow up and kill the damn unit. I built 10 hussars, lost 6, but I killed about 15+ Elephants. Most of those losses were to city attack because like alot of people mentioned, the hussar ability to knock back can put u in the worst possible positions. I had soo much fun knocking out Rammy's Pets that I totally neglected to build and replace my siege and bow units !:crazyeye:
