The Witcher

I'm not sure what that routine is. It definitely took me more than 3 or 4 strikes. Maybe 3 or 4 from the back, but I never did have much luck getting him from behind. I guess I'm not quick enough.

I did it the hard way and took down his shield. Hit and run tactics. Patience (something I didn't have on my first attempts). I also ran around the rock as I seen that in the video. You can hide behind the rock for the arrows. Although the catapults can still get you. I often just did circles around the rock and recharged my shield. I can avoid getting charged that way.

Anyone know of anyone who sells cloth and leather in the city in Chapter 3? I made all 3 elder items I found diagrams for. Very cool items with good magic resistance. But I want to make the draug armor, but don't have enough cloth and leather (to make robust cloth and hardened leather). I hear there is better armor later on, but I'm OCD here, I just want to complete my set. I got the cool swords from the gargoyle quest (one from the manuscript quest, and the other from finishing the 3rd rune room). That would complete my awesome set. Oh well.

I can't find a soul who sells leather and cloth. :(. I wasted my money on that Draug armor diagram. :(. One guys sells traps and crafts, another ore and crafts, another magical stuff, another potions stuff, and 3 merchants who sell worthless food.

edit: Argh, and why won't it let me meditate anywhere? This game I love, but it annoys me sometimes. Do they expect me to make all my potions at the end of chapter 2? What gives?

re-edit: Nevermind. :) I found something better in the sewers. I wasted a lot of time scouring the city. But that's okay, I like exploring. It's a pretty cool looking city.

Yeah, much better stuff in the sewers. I wanted to make the Vran armor, but I used the Vran enhancement on the armor I found in the sewers. Who knew it would be required to build the Vran armor. :)

The final battles were pretty easy for the most part. Much easier than the ones at the end of chapter 1 and 2. I was pretty powerful at this point. I was at level 35 (I think that's the max). I'm thinking a lot of side quests are unnecessary, they only give like 100 XP many times. I think I would have still reached 35 without it. Most of the XP comes from the main quests.

Somehow I still failed Suspect: Thorak and The walls have ears. And I never finished Mystic River it seems because I didn't make that armor. Hmm. Oh well.

I liked the story very much. Only thing I didn't like about the ending was
Spoiler :
there was no ending LOL. I was expecting a movie or slideshow. But nothing? I was hoping for at least a slide show fallout style. There are so many choices you can make at the end, but no story wraps everything up. Oh well.

The ending IS the "epilogue chapter". Interactive ending is still ending.

Whenever I get some time I'll play the game again doing the Roche path. I was pretty happy with the Iorveth path even though I didn't save the person he would have wanted to save at the end. One reason I wish there was more of an ending was because I did have Triss
Spoiler :
tend to his wounds at the end. I wanted to make sure he survived. It seemed like he would survive. I just wanted to save Triss, Iorveth, and Saskia- assuming the dragon didn't actually die when I left it at the end.

One decision I made in the game I wasn't happy about was
Spoiler :
saving Stennis' life. In chapter 3 when he shows up to the council I get a cut scene that does call him a poisoner. I'm still unclear if he poisoned Saskia or not. I partially did the two side quests (Suspect: Thorak and the Walls have ears), and those quests seem to implicate the priest only. And what about Philipa? Did she poison Saskia? I'm still unclear on all of this.

Spoiler :
Stannis didn't poison her, which was explained in my game. Although I didn't finish either of the side quests related to finding out about the servant and the cup which was really weird.

Overall it was a pretty good game. I still miss a few things from TW1, however. Why did they take out alcohol and intoxication? I love the drunk effects/animations in TW1. They were hilarious seeing Geralt try to stand up straight. It was annoying walking around like that, but it usually didn't last long (and you could meditate a few hours to get rid of it).

I've got to say that the Operator fight was incredibly hard on Hard (first playthrough). I managed to beat him at level 28, though. Took me 2 hours to get it right.

I ended the game at level 32. Do you have to kill tons of enemies to get to level 35 or something? Apart from the 2 small side quests I screwed up, I did everything and even farmed a little for ingredients.

Who the heck is the Operator?

I had no problem reaching level 35, I did almost all the quests, only missing a couple of them. And one in Act III that required an ingredient from the two Queen Endrega's in Act I

Did you get the quest "From a Bygone Era"?

Spoiler :
He's the guy that offers you a chance to re-spec, but you can fight him for some pretty decent drops and hell of a time.

Did you go around killing lots of enemies?

Never heard of the Operator. Is this on a Roche playthru or Iovereth?

It shouldn't matter. It's entirely optional and you must have gotten the relevant note from the basement of the cliff hut in Act 2 and asked some mages about it. See this article.

I'll have to hit that on my next playthru. I even used quests lists from this site ( http://guides.gamepressure.com/thewitcher2assassinsofkings/ ) to make sure I didn't miss quests. I'm a completionist. That site is missing that quest.

I didn't explore that area as thoroughly as I should have when I was on that side of the mist.

That battle looks extremely tough. That link talks about it on hard difficulty, I wonder how it is on normal. The problem I have, is I'm not very good at dodging attacks. I have slow reflexes.

edit: I did get to level 35 btw. I had no problem getting there if you do all the quests on that link I provided above. I did have to go back to the catacombs in chapter 2 a couple times because I forgot the surgical tools the first time, and again for the main quest item (I missed that wall where you have to tell the ghost you were part of Dun Banner). So fighting those wraiths 2 more times gave me a little more experience, but I don't think it was enough to go up one more level.

Roche path? I've heard Iorveth's path has more quests in chapter 2 than Roche's so it's much MUCH easier to hit 35.

I've read that site and it doesn't seem to have Act 3 quests at all. Also, on Iorveth's path I think the hut wouldn't be part of any quest so you just have to explore and find it.

Oh, yes. I didn't really believe it at first, but it's actually worse than anything you've seen. And the most frustrating part was that the fight seems very possible to win if you're fast enough, but each time there's always some minor hitch that got me killed, like unresponsive controls or being stuck at a collapsed pillar.

Yeah, I did Roche's path, which I think has a more apt subdued tone for the series.

I don't know what that has to do with it. I killed the two queen endregas but of coruse there was no indication I'd need their pheromones for something in Act III so I ended up using both of them in potions.

Pretty sure I picked that up but never got a quest from it.

No, I was asking about how you managed to get to level 35. As for the pheromones, I admit I had a bit of prior knowledge. I didn't sell them when I got them and learned a little later that I needed them. Unless you're intending to play through a few times, reading equipment guides first is quite important in RPGs, I feel.

If you're on Iorveth's path you don't get a quest for it, I think. But you should get an option to ask Bras of Ban Ard about it. Maybe you also need to ask some mage about it in Act 2. I asked Dethmold since I did Roche's path.

yeah I made the mistake of using the Vran reinforcements. I guess you need to actually build that armor to finish the Mystic River quest completely. OH well.

I started another playthru. It's amazing how much easier a second playthru is. Battles in the prologue that I thought were hard seem much easier now. Although maybe the 1.1 or 1.2 patches made them easier. That one fight in the courtyard to open the monastery doors seems much easier. Seems like I fought less people this time around (I didn't notice, but I also used bombs this time).

I'm also trying to do stuff I missed the first time. I really didn't know about special abilities and how to get them. I just started Chaper 1 and picked up cover. That one took a couple tries. But it's a 10% damage reduction. Not bad. You need to stay under Triss's protective bubble spell the entire time to get that bonus. I also picked up strong back (extra 50 pounds which is damn good) by saving Aryan.

I also got backstabber, but I may have gotten that one the first game just by chance.
