The Witcher

I'll have to check my graphics. They seem to be working okay now.

just got done killing queen Andrega. From what I gather, I'm doing it at a relatively low level. I'm only level 7. I had to look up a tip, because I wasn't doing so hot. And reloading causes more andregas to spawn. yuck. Anyways the tip is to hit her from behind. It's the only way to do a lot of damage to her. Pretty easy once you got that part.

Can someone explain about mutagens? The manual isn't clear on when you can use them. I have several mutagens in my inventory. I was able to use a couple on the top of that first talent tree you start out in. Now on my regular talents I'm starting to put points into swordsmanship. But it's not giving me the option to use my mutagens. What conditions do I need to satisfy to use my mutagens?

Look at your talent tree (the oen with "Witcher path, Sign path, Swordman path". See how some (usually high-end) talents have a little dot ?
Each dot mean you can put a mutagen in it. You can only put one, and you can never replace it. Chose wisely.

And no, you can't know in advance which talent has a dot, you need to spend at least one point to discover it.

ugh, Kayran is kicking my ass. I may have to give up on this game. I can't seem to get past it. It was a fun game while it lasted.

edit: well, I got the damn thing. I read the forums, and I realized you can't trap the middle 2 tentacles. I feel like a dumbass trying to trap the middle two tentacles. I still kicked it down to easy and disables QTE just in case. But I feel now I know which tentacles to go after, I could do it on normal difficulty. I only got hit twice by the tentacles. I still have trouble dodging them, but I got past it thankfully.

Damn, this has been one of the hardest games I have ever played. taking on 4 wraiths at once for meletele's heart is too much. argh. I really hate to drop it down to easy.

edit: I eventually got past them. I dropped it down to easy again, but they still inflicted a lot of damage. It seems like it's pointless to kill all the wraiths. I did better just running back and forth until the ritual was done.

Don't give up dude, chapter 1 is pretty rough but after that the game gets progressively easier and easier.

I played a second time using Iorveth's path. I must say this path is much more interesting than Roche. You get to mearn much more about everything if you pick this one, which is a bit sad. You also get more choices and it generally feels more fleshed-out than Roche's path.
The game isn't really complete if you don't play both paths. However, even playing both feels shorter than the first game and the third act is a bit of a let-down in terms of loot. For instance, finding both an armor and the diagram for that same armor in a sewer is like, WTH? Plus once again you find diagrams that are almost impossible to build without carrying tons of lumber/silver ore only to realise that they grant you a sword which is no better than what you could find.
I particularly hate the quest item sword which weighs stuff and has pitiful stats but can't be sold away.

Also, I played on normal but reverted to easy for the kayran and the fight with Letho
Spoiler :
(the one where he spares you if you win but kills you if you lose, which is kind of a silly break of immersion for me)
. These are definitely not fun.

ack, that part in the parenthesis is a spoiler. Some of my stuff is spoilers but minor at best. I tried to avert my eyes from the part in the parenthesis.

I'm at the fight with the big guy at the end of chapter 1 right now (on normal). I got my ass handed to me twice. I may watch a video to see if I can get some ideas. I've been following a Let's play video (I play mine first so as not to spoil it). I learned a lot of things. I didn't realize those little dots meant you could put enhancements into swords and armor. And I learned how effective bombs are. I haven't been using them all game.

I just wish I hadn't wasted my two mutagen spots on crappy mutagens. :(

Anyways I'm stuck on that fight right now. It's challenging facing someone who uses bombs and signs like I do.

 What the heck did you think they were then?

Tip: Click on and try EVERYTHING!

You get more than enough mutagens in the game (at least I did), and there isn't a lot to mutate in the sword path :p I sold all of the weak ones and still had some strong ones left over.

I wouldn't stress about using lesser mutagens on those two spots though.

Anyways I'm stuck on that fight right now. It's challenging facing someone who uses bombs and signs like I do.
If you don't want a challenge drop it down to easy :p

I didn't want to drop it down to easy. I finally got it. *whew* Although I didn't technically win. I think after a certain amount of time, the cut scene happens regardless of how low you get his health. I only got his health down to 50%, but the fight lasted a long time as I just kept running around in circles. Eventually the cut scene came in. In the video I watched he just used Aard over and over, but I had more trouble than he did in the video, because I couldn't sometimes get my Aard in before he put his Qwen shield up. So when he had is Qwen up I'd just run around and try to dodge stuff (although I got hit by one bomb and incinerated, I was real low on health at the end). I could never seem to get my Aard in before he got his quen. And I was using the heavy style, maybe I should have used fast style with him. I'd usually get in one or two hits, then dodge roll backwards and try to get another Aard, but as I said, many times he'd get his Qwen up again. In the video I watched, he only got his Qwen up once at the beginning.

yeah, I found blocking that guy wasn't very useful. I'd hold down the E, then he's just blast me with an Aard sign every time almost.

It's not a time thing, you have to get him to 50% health. I ended up winning this fight the cheap way. After being killed over and over by the Kayran for an hour and then this hard fight comes up not 30 minutes later, I said <snip> this" and spammed grapeshot bombs for the win.

Yeah, I did the same.
I hated the Kayran fight by the way. It's just a giant gimmick fight, where the only difficulty lies in finding out what the hell you're supposed to do, and once you do, it's easy.

yeah the Kayran seems easy once you do it successfully once. I just didn't realize you couldn't trap the middle tentacles. I was too busy running to see that it didn't have the fleshy growth. :)

I'm at the start of chapter 2. It seems like a more interesting chapter than 1, but I'm still fairly early into it. I just like dwarven stuff better than human stuff. It's an interesting city.

I bought that armor and swords from the mysterious merchant. They are pretty good, and much better than the stuff I had at the end of chapter 1. But now I'm broke. :(

You know you can block by pressing E right?

You can? Well that's good to know, I've played two chapters already and I was starting to wonder if there is any way to block...
