The World Becomes Ours

NPC Diplomacy

From Kogu
To Vélache

The heathens are free to worship their false gods - east of the mountains and out of Kogu lands. We do not appreciate being told how to handle our domestic affairs.

From the Haishian Confederacy
To Vélache

We will of course add our voice to supporting our brothers and sisters, and our lands remain open to any Nine Spirits worshipers fleeing persecution. We appreciate and really on your support.

From the Yi-qi Onaabe
To Vélache

The Mikquin, and any other tribe, is free to join our Republic. We are simply exerting our influence as newly independent nations, just the same as you. With the Empire fallen, it is up to those like the Yi-qi and the Vélache to unite our Dofangdau brethren, so they are never under the heel of foreign oppressors again.

We would appreciate and suggest that Vélache not concern itself with Onaabe affairs.

From Reqq
To Karniean Kingdom

We are grateful for any and all assistance, and will immediately sign a new alliance with our long time friends. We must express concern that you only mention assistance against the Occulta, while our southern borders and riverlands are under the heel of Masurra.

From Masurra
To Karniean Kingdom

We are open to joint operations with your forces against the Kingdom of Occulta. The Burned Men must be stopped before the spread any further.

From Nonar
To Karniean Kingdom

We will not cooperate with you in enslaving the Occulta while you hold Surr in chains.

From Mala, Pardusos
To Chien Hao, Middle Sea Trade League

While we are not Qeng states, we wish to express interest in joining the Middle Sea Trade League. Or positions will allow the League to extend influence through the western channel.

We are pleased to welcome Mala and Pardusos into the Dalian League.

Added organisations to the background post on the first page. Feel free to change the names to something more interesting.

Lack of activity makes a sad GM. Here's a thing to do!

I've been wanting to put together area names to slap on the climate map so I can start using better names in the updates. Having place names scattered about makes it hard for me to find and remember them. I've got the below map with the most basic names, then some areas lazily circled in red that I'd love to have names for.

Spoiler map :

Anything else would be very appreciated as well, like for the surrounding oceans, large rivers (not each and every tributary), peninsulas, bays, etc. When making names, try to choose something that would be the most used name. So if you're naming a small bay that would likely be only used by the surrounding peoples, a name from their local languages would make sense. For the more well traveled areas, like the channels between continents, a name that would commonly be used by traders would be better, so likely a Qeng name (or just English translation) .

I will post an RP in a few hours. This game is certainly not dead yet.

sorry erez that I haven't answered yet.
I'll do tomorrow at the latest, I'm just considering what the Zang disposition is towards slavery.
Decamper, what is the response of the rest of the Zang NPCs to Karniea?

Decamper, what is the response of the rest of the Zang NPCs to Karniea?

Geng Lavas refuses.

Mala Lang and Mao Nang Sho are hesitant, but will follow the other Zang nations.

Emang Likong is in favour of a proactive war.

OK. Sorry for short-form diplomacy, but I'm my way to bed. Here's what happens,

Mao Sho, prompted by Emang Likong and Karniea, decides to take military action against the scary forces moving about in the east.
Mao Sho hosts a communion with the rest of the region, including Geng Lavas and Karniean representatives, where the defensive alliance is to be reformed into an offensive force.
Mao Sho wants the Zang coalition to be coordinated by Mao Sho, moving strong as one force.

A hand of understanding is reached to Geng Lavas, which is told that they're still friends and that their refusal is understandable due to their border situation. They are invited to the council to pay attendance and overhear the proceedings, even if they don't want to partake in the war. They are free to decline and are treated respectfully.

erez: Karniea should tell me what they think would be a good action. This may be best to do over PM.

Decamper: I would like to know what the rest of the Zang nations decide during this council.

Geng Lavas attends the convention, but decides to not commit militarily.

Mao Nang Sho and Emang Likong agree, and will allow Mao Sho to command their full armed forces.

Mala Lang agrees, but will only commit its navy.

from Karnei
to Mssura:

I hope that with our possible alliance against the Occulta it is clear that your war with Reqq must end. Attacking them while you are both fighting the Occulta was in itself the wrong thing to do, and with our alliance with Reqq we will protect them.

Approximate translations
paidokan: commander-in-chief
kendang: Zang syndicate
kengdai: wonder, the fantastic framework of being.

“So what should we call it?”
Grand Mong Daokan leaned on the fireplace. A congregation of pointy-hatted men and women stood
around the room, waiting for someone to speak.
But no one said anything. It had been a long day with hefty proceedings, considerations, detailings,
trivialities, heavy prayers and flat out rows. Each and every one of the guests were exhausted,
seeing that the decision had been made, the formalization should have been the easy part.
But it wasn't.
So many powerful people stood in this room, each feeling reluctant to do wrong in the face of the
coming times. And as they stood, Lieer the Karneian representative said nothing, slightly confused as to why
nobody else said anything. He understood the respect in not intervening in whatever these post-proceedings
would encapsulate, whatever some sort of ritual or dark enforcement.

Lieer had heard stories about these people, people that breathed strange inspirited airs, possessed fumes,
and then traveled to some strange place within their heads. Magic-sniffing madmen, messing with the mad
tissue of the nether soil, unearthing all sorts of weird stones, swallowing them and floating or transforming,
flickering eyes, humming sounds for the ears of themselves and their guests.
Lieer even had a cousin who had his hand turn into a newt. Of course, he got better.
This is when the most lavishly clad of the bunch moved into the centre of the circle:
Regent Lao of Geng Lavas raised his voice.
“To Kengdai, nothing remains without poetry. And that is true for all matters. We all know this, that we
need a word for our good movement, a word that raises the wealthy flow of our river to crush the East.
We need a word to bring forth the just spirits of our kendangs, and the safety to them, a safety that will
prevail even through and after this war.
I know that I have declined to attend to this struggle. You know of the damned Inuks, and the Jamhay.
But as I have said, I am so honored to partake in the discussions – dear Daokan…”
Grand Mong Daokan still leaned on the construction. The warm lights danced across his stern face.
Regent Lao continued.
“… so long time has passed since we last saw each other – I think it has been half a decade, hasn't it?
But no matter. What I can bring to your front, my friends… See, this is my son's idea… He has this
very poetic stride to his politic-theorizing, he sees cities as living things, you see, pulsating, like
breathing creatures. He calls them… Waves. We are the Waves of Zang. Mala Leng, Geng Lavas, Mao Sho,
Mao Nang Sho, Emang Likong. We are The Waves of Zang.”
“Let it be done,” Grand Mong Daokan said, grimly, “We are now The Waves of Zang. We'll flush out
this eastern flame.”

And so, the crowd murmured. They slowly left the room, their tall, pointy hats bouncing against the
door frame. And soon, Lieer of Karnei would learn how Zang alchemists celebrated decisions, how
strange it felt to taste colors, transform hands and see the flying oxes of the netherworld. And at home,
noone would believe him, some think him ill-touched by the crazed alchemist donkeys of Zang,
some others be happy that he snapped out of this fluid-induced madness.

To: Elcata
From: Grand Mong Daokan, Paidokan of The Waves of Zang

On behalf of all that is civilised,
Kendangs and alchemists,
The threatened peoples along your borders,
The good knowledge and the magic of kengdai,
The suffering people of Althaq,
We declare great war upon your land.
You will be crushed beneath the waves of fate's river.
[The Zang Coalition, The Waves of Zang, declares war upon Elcata.]

To: Althaq
From: Grand Mong Daokan, Paidokan of The Waves of Zang

Friends to the south,
The threat of Elcata is upon us,
And we see your coast burned.
Your Sunken Queen's spirit desecrated.
We are coming to your aid this summer,
We will restore your land,
We will level the balances.
[The Zang Coalition, The Waves of Zang, declares cooperation with Althaq, hoping to coordinate against Elcata and to reclaim Althaq's pre-war territory.]

Orders will be sent sometime tomorrow, I'm sure to get them in before you start, even if I don't really know the deadline and therefore not where you live... I just want to read potential replies before I write orders, and I'm going to bed in an hour or so. :)

Words, Words, Words.

Words have Power.

Words have a power to create, certainly, but mostly they have the power to destroy. Don't believe me? Think of an animal. What did you think of? A bird? An ape? A horse, perhaps, as our friends in the South are so obsessed with? It could be anything, certainly. But now I suppose I said, 'think of a quadruped.'

Now suddenly, your choices disappear! It can no longer be a bird, or a fish. But now I suppose I said: think of a 'black, four legged, domesticated animal.' Your choices disappear still. Now, imagine if I said: 'think of Bastet, my pet black cat with green eyes.' At that point, you have no choices whatsoever. You may think that each step up provides more information, but what you are really doing is destroying possibilities. The power of words to destroy and undo, you see, is much greater than its power to create. You just didn't notice it, until now, because you are ultimately a creature of words. You cannot imagine a world where there are no words.

You still seem unconvinced. What, you expected a straight answer, instead of some metaphysical bull? You have come to the wrong nation, my friend, but I shall oblige. Words are powerful. A stolen correspondence, the right whisper to the right person, can change the world. Like all power, however, it is much easier to change the world through destruction, rather than creation. Wordsmiths have the power to lift people up, making beautiful things that all can appreciate. It's often far more easier to knock everyone else down, making a pedestal out of the land which you have cleared.

To: The Waves of Zang
From: Athlaq

We appreciate your assistance, and our warriors will fight alongside the Zang.

To: The Waves of Zang
From: Elcata

So be it. We will burn away any slaver that opposes us.

To: Karnei
From: Masurra

We will halt operations against the Reqq.

OOC: Orders are technically already due. I'll give it until the end of the weekend since no one has sent orders yet.

Thanks, I have been really busy. I will try to give you orders by tomorrow!

- Secretary of Public Works, Zhuge Liang

Emperor Yangdi has appointed Zhuge Liang, son of aristocrat and retired official Zhuge Yaoshi, Secretary of Public Works, despite being only 32 years old. Zhuge Liang is known as a hardworking, some would call him workaholic, and efficient official. Unlike other Ministers, his reports to the Emperor are short but always clear as to what their message is and he does not try to impress him with literature like reports and calligraphy. And the most incredible fact is that Zhuge Liang is not even a true aristocrat.

He was an orphan and a beggar until the age of 13. As he was wandering in a forest, he was shot by an arrow. It was the arrow of Zhuge Yaoshi, one of the richest aristocrats of Qi, who was on a hunting expedition. Unlike most aristocrats, Zhuge Yaoshi has always been warm and friendly. He took pity on the boy and took him to his house so he could be treated by his private doctor. When the boy woke up, he impressed Zhuge Yaoshi with his intelligence. As Zhuge Yaoshi, due to an illness, could not have a child, he decided to adopt the boy. So, Liang became Zhuge Liang.

He was send to one of the finest universities and had come to posses the finest manners under the guidance of his foster father and looked like a real aristocrat. Being a fine hardworking young man with good manners, great ambition and a quick mind, he was promoted to Judge of Li County. Li was a border province and relative poor. As Judge of Li, he improved trade in the region and executed corrupted officials. Thus, he impressed the Emperor Yangdi, who made him Secretary of Knowledge, the official who manages the affairs of universities.

Zhuge Liang, only 27 years old at that time, impressed even his most critical opponents by his management of that office. After only a year in that office, the Emperor called him to the Palace to talk privately. Unlike other Ministers, during this talk, Zhuge Liang informed the Emperor of his shortcomings and flaws and how he should correct them instead of flattering him. Emperor Yangdi had always wanted to hear something critical from an other person instead of the usual boring flattery. So, he promoted Zhuge Liang to Secretary of Public Works.

Zhuge Liang then decided to begin a grand scale project of constructing huge ports and shipyards in all major coastal cities of Qi. This plan has been approved by an enthusiastic Emperor, as Emperor Yangdi shares the view of the Chancellor that the future of Qi lies in the control of the seas. This new grand strategy, which was first proposed by Zhuge Liang and then adopted by the Emperor Yangdi, is called "The Dragon rides the Waves" and calls for the creation of a strong naval power which shall allow Qi to control naval trade, increase it, protect the trade routes and become the dominant naval power.

New naval squadrons are planned to be constructed in all those new shipyards, while the new ports will also promote trade between Qi and other nations. The increase in trade income shall also further boost the Qi economy and allow for a further enlargement of the navy, thus making Qi the undisputed master of the seas. Zhuge Liang has put all of his hopes for going down in history in this grand strategy.

Zhuge Liang shall personally oversee the project, but the head engineer shall be a young eunuch mathematician, the only 27 years old Jia Xiang. Jia Xiang was castrated as a small boy and sent to the Palace. There, he impressed the esteemed mathematician Linghu Chong. Linghu Chong took Jia Xiang as a disciple and the young eunuch studied extensively mathematics and it is rumored that he has read all of the mathematical books of Qi.

At the age of 21, Jia Xian invented the 'Jia Xian Triangle' and used it as a tool for extracting square and cubic roots. This impressed even the most well-read and renown mathematicians of the Imperial Palace. The Emperor made him Supervisor of the Imperial Mathematical Academy, something that caused uproar due to the man's young age, but Jia Xian remained in that position for six years and gained the respect of even his harshest critics. Now, he is the head engineer of Zhuge Liang's project and his main aide.

An apology is in order, truly. I've gotten so used to the age-long moments between updates (mainly Fallen Star høhø) that I have completely overlooked this game for some time x) I'll have orders done aprox. Sunday, 23.59 GMT +1

Again, apologies for the late action :,)

The name of the river that Tha'mad is located around is called the River of Blood, where no foreigners are allowed, as the College cannot guarantee their safety against the wild beasts that live in the north. All rumors of cannibalistic warlocks that rule the area and the rumor that Tha'maddians transform into wolf-beasts after dark to feast upon outsider flesh are, without exception, false.

The Tha'mad calls the mountain range that crosses Xidau, the Serpent's Spine.
