The world of Lone Wolf: Magnamund.

You have been busy mrtn. This is a lot to digest so give me a day or so to come back with some comments. However, I can say now I really love the Magnamund style tech icons. I can see the you've included those crystal explosive devices developed by the Elder Magi - very cool.

I've added the first era into the bix now, except for wonders, which isn't finished yet. This is a screenshot of the science advisor screen. I might change some few things, but the start of the game will look quite like this. The mod is now about 20 megs, so it's gonna end up quite big. :)
I have more than 20 new tech icons too. Check this!
KingArthur, check pm and/or mail. I want your comments.

About invisible land units - I think I tried them once but I kept starting wars that I didn't want because one of my units would occassionally bump into an enemies invisible unit and start fighting automatically - that was in a previous version of the game though (might even have been plain old Civ3 but I can't remember) and may have been fixed in a patch.

Nice that you like the icons. What do you think about the fact that I have coloured some of them? Is that just ugly, or? I didn't want to have it all in black and white. :) I have made a tech icon for the device, but nothing else. I'm thinking about having them as some sort of cruise missiles, but I'd have to make the missiles too. :DThis is three of the wonders; The Dagger of Vashna, the Throne of Andarin (dwarven 'fertility' wonder, will probably give a granary in all cities, the Tomb of the Majhan will have to give something else) and the Book of the Magnakai. Shall I use that dwarven_king as the splash for the throne wonder? The pic of the throne itself is quite small, so not fit for a splash, IMHO. Do you have broadband and icq or messenger or something like that? It would be easier to send you the (unfinished) mod that way, rather than to have to upload lots of zips.
Lots of questions, so I'll stop here. :D

I actually prefer the colour ones over the black and white ones.

The dwarf king would make an ok splash, he looks regal enough with the crown on his head but a really good throne pic would be better.

The explosive devices would work well as a cruise missile but you'd have to give them a fairly limited range (say 1 tile) - in the books I think they had to be placed by hand before being 'detonated'. Good luck doing the graphics I wish I could help but I'm crap at art.

I wish I had broadband but I stay in a small village in the country and broadband isn't available at the moment. I'm stuck with a dial up connection at 56K -ouch! Wait until you've got a really good beta version that you are happy with and then upload the files.

Here is an updated screen dump of the tech tree in the ancient era.
What should the eras be called? I can't call it the industrial era. :)
I have coloured a few more of the tech icons.
Can you guess what the letters in the Alphabet icon spells? :D

The words spell out MRTN :D

The only ages I can find mentioned in the books are:
The Golden Age of the Shianti.
The Age of the Black Moon.

after that we're making things up but we know the Age of Moon is proceeded by dominance of the Kai so I guess Age of the Kai might do?

When would the Age of the Black Moon be? I suppose the Age of the Shianti is the First age, and the Age of the Kai is the last. Shall we put in the 'Age of Kings' somewhere inbetween?
Here is a new sheet of tech icons, some of them in several versions (mostly coloured and not coloured). I don't know what I'll use them all for.
And as I have so many I'll attach some here:
EDIT: Obsolete pic removed.

Yup the order is (1) Shianti Age -> (2) Black Moon -> (3) Kai. Age of Kings could go between Black Moon and Kai.

I still like the coloured icons. Out of the Sailing ones I like the bottom right one the best.

I'm sure you'll find a place for them all.

Someone is making a flying ship. ;) I'm gonna use it as Banedons flying ship, probably as a "helicopter".

I think I'll include both the coloured and the B&W icons in the mod. It'll be "billions" of megs, so a few kb's more is no big deal, I think.

That 'someone' has made a really good looking unit. But are you going to keep the balloon? - Banedon's ship is just supposed to levitate. If it's a helicopter does that just restrict it's role to transportion (does it even get an attack?). I've built a helicopter only once in a normal game of civ and found them to be the most useless things imaginable. It would be much more fun to have air units that could move around the map in different turns (like a land unit) but not be able to be attacked by land units only other air units.

Are you going to give flying units to the other civs to balance things out? We need a Kraan/zlanbeast for the Darklords; an eagle rider (Itikar?) for the Vassa; and maybe a balloon for the dwarves. Woud you consider kinboat's dragon and gryphon for the Kraan and itikar? (at least until something better becomes available. And a balloon units already been done.

You might have seen that I've added the balloon to the normal Caravel, so yes, I will keep it. I know it's a bit of creative licence but I don't care. :p

I don't think that's possible. If it sucks as a (beefed up) helicopter we can make a bomber of it.

Banedon's ship was 'manned' by dwarves, so they will get the flying ship as well. I don't want to use the dragon and gryphon, they would just look like dragons and gryphons. I think that everyone will get the flying ship until something else is available.

There's been some new units done by Kindred72 to add. :goodjob: What do you think about using the Arthurian Knight with a helmet as a Lencian Crusader, the one without helmet as some sort of Mercenary. (I'm thinking of adding a foot unit also. Maybe the Scottish Warrior? They would be quite expensive, and I think they will require silver or gold (maybe one version of each, or only one of each) but not iron.)
I've also thought about using his Inquisitor as the Kailord. You can argue if they should be mounted or not, but I think this unit fits better than any available foot unit. As Sommerlunds civ colour is yellow he will have a yellow cloak, but I think it works.
I also need to think about if Sommerlund should be the only civ able to build Kailords, and if the others, in that case, should build something else. It's kinda nasty to give the Sommlendings kick-ass Kailords, so they can conquer the planet, and not give the others something similar.

I like the idea of the Arthurian Knight as a Lencian Crusader but what about making him the Kai Warrior instead (the unhelmeted version)? Looking at the front of the LW book there's a pic of a Kai warrior riding into battle all kitted out like a knight. You could change Sommerlunds colour to green and hey presto a green-cloaked mounted Kai Lord.

There is the problem of balancing the units but I don't like the idea of making the Kai available to the other civs. There's some counter units that you could add as well as making the Kai Lord more expensive than the other units e.g.,
Kai Lord equivalents:
* Helghast for the Darklords (just about as strong and costly as a Kai).
* Durenese Knight for the Durenese (slightly less powerful -but they were the finest knights in Magnamund -and cheaper).
* The Dwarf Gunner for Bor.
* The Vakeros for Dessi.
*The others could have their stock units that are cheaper but less powerful. It might be worth taking another look at the tech tree and seeing how these would all fit in.

You might even consider adding 2 Kai units that come with different techs eg. Kai Warrior followed by Magnakai Warrior or Kai Grandmaster -use the unhelmeted knight for the Kai Warrior then the helmeted one for the magnakai.

What LW book?
I might do like that. Right now I have green as the civ colour for Vassagonia, so what colour should they get in that case? Yellow?

Would you like to customize the Diplomacy.txt file? Right now the Slovian leader is asking if you are looking for a tussle with Slovia. The Dwarves are claiming to be kings of the North. And silly stuff like that.

- All the books. At the front there's a bit for you to fill in your name "[name] is an initiate of the Kai". At least that's the case for the British editions of the books.

- Yellow would be just fine.

- I'll gladly customize the diplomacy.txt file. It may take me a week or two as my spare time is rather short just now.

I found that page (Haven't opened one of those books for a long time. I have played them on the net now.) but I didn't realise that that was a Kai.

Yellow it is. I haven't been able to find any heraldic info on the Vassagonians.

Thanks for helping with the diplomacy.txt, just post if there are any problems.

Kinboat just posted a cobra and an eagle. I thought that the Eagle could be a good Vassagonian flying unit.

Take a look at this map. :)

King Arthur, sorry if I haven't been around for a while. This week I was away because my RAM crashed.
The thing is that I'm stuck in the tech tree. The attachment (stupidly called Second era.doc) should really be expanded to three eras. I'd love some input from you on this. The red names of techs are those I have icons for. Some of the techs are very tentative.

I want to interrupt this nice thread with something slightly OT: Do you Lone-Wolf lovers know THIS site?: http://www.projectaon.org/

A must for every Joe Dever fan!
