The conquistador is hardly useless. With a movement of six tiles, regardless of terrain, it can do deep strikes for resource denial or worker nabbing. It's cheap, so you can suicide it.

The Hwacha of course - its lack of a GA trigger kills its effectiveness. I've never had an F15 trigger a GA either, but maybe I should play as America more often ;)
The one redeeming feature of the man-o-war IMHO is that it comes at my favourite time for a GA - at the dawn of the Industrial Age.

Gotta be the F-15 for me. Sure it can trigger a GA, but if the game is almost over what is the point?

True, but once I was in a major war with the English, I could hold my ground with land units, but I just could not take on the man of war much longer! everytime i try to transport troops, MAN O WAR
everytime i finish my road system MAN O WAR
Grrrrr but then I got the Ironclad :)

Exactly! The fact that a few technologies later you get a unit that can easily take out the Man 'o War makes it pretty useless. I mean sure, for a little while, it can make transporting units overseas a pain, but once steam power rolls around, you have nothing to worry about. So while the F-15's modifications are lowsy and the GA timing is awful and even though the H'wacha cannot trigger a GA at all, I'd still prefer either one over the Man 'o War.

The hawcha can trigger a golden age it can kill units not just weaken them. I think Man O War is the worst UU.

The F15 is the most useless UU.
The hawcha is an effective bombard unit, but it still can't kill units, unless you mod it.

But, the unit that the F-15 is based on is good, which makes the F-15 good. Ans since the unit the Man 'o War is based on is not good, neither is the Man 'o War. True, compared to other UUs, the F-15 is terrible, but not when compared to the Man 'o War, IMO.

@Beanzy: A UU should give you an advantage. The hawcha gives you a better bombard unit.
The Man 'o War is not a good unit, but it lets you trigger your GA by yourself.
The F15 is neither a better unit than the one it replaces nor does it let you chose the beginnig of your GA, so it's the worst UU.

That's true. The bonuses it receieves does not make the F-15 better than the Jet Fighter, however, I would still prefer something with zero improvement to something with a moderate improvement on a unit that I wouldn't use anyway and is simply not that good. I agree that if you judge a unit simply on how much it improves on the regular version, then yes, the F-15 would be worse than the Man 'o War.

"I'd have to say Man 'o War simply because naval units are just so extremely useless in Civilization!"

Care to explain that to the civ in my current game who've had their infrastructure bombarded and bombed?

I say the F15 as I've not had a use for fighters

Ok, let me be more specific: Every naval unit until the advent of the oil using ones is completely useless except for transportation. I basically meant that Frigates and their ilk were completely useless. Sure, Battleships can be great, but nothing before hand (with the exception maybe of the Destroyer...)

Actually, that's probably an inaccurate statement. You should probably say, "the US marines are the only marines who have actually done something I have HEARD about." Marines have been an integral part of many world class armies since the US commissioned the first marine corps during the revolutionary war. And I am sure those marines have done more than sit in their barracks and march.
Sorry I'm off topic.

Worst UU, I'd say would be the Man'O'War. I'd use the F15, because I use fighters, but I don't use frigates ever.

"the US marines are the only marines who have actually DONE something."

the reason that the U.S marines is doing stuff, is because U.S is the country that invades every one else. lots of nation in the world is the lover of peace, but U.S is the lover of war.

Off Topic: The US Marines are only well known because of media coverage.

On Topic: Man O' War! They REALLY wanted to be mean to us Brittish didn't they! I mean why not the Longbow? Why not a replacement for the Battleship? (HMS Dreadnaught anyone?)

The resolution to form what became the U.S marines was in 1755,

The British Royal Marines were formed in 1664.

The Greeks and Romans both made use of marines.

On topic- the worst UU is the Man o' War- never been able to get any value out of it.:(

I dislike the F15 on the basis that it comes so late in the game. I like a UU early in the game so that it's available for early wars.

All air units (except the Nuke and ICBM) suck. I mean, just count the amount of failed bomb-runs! And America's UU comes almost always too late in the game to be of any use.
