Hello to all soon to be Civ5 players. As the title sugests, there is no experience as intense as to do something the first time in your life. Thats why I have the Idea that everyone who likes, publishes a shedowgame of his first game. If you play civ5 for the first time, you proberbly know nothing about its internal mechanics, how to tech, what to do first and how to win the game.
But its the first experience and I bet its quite exciting, how ever the first game ends, win, loose, stopped by bugs or boredom. So, I want to welcome everyone to share his first game with the forum.

But thats still a view month from now.. so I have some questions to the community.. would it be better for everyone to choose their game settings? Should everyone play the same game with identical settings? Should we share the same starting save? Should everything be random? Should one play the tutorial first and than start the "first" game? What level of difficoulty should we choose if everyone plays the same game? So many questions and possibilities.. If you like this idea and if you are willing to contribute, place your suggestion and we figure it out until the game is released.

Not for a moment do I see the point to posting the very first game, nor do I see the need to come to an agreement over what settings one should use. Everyone should use whatever settings they please, especially since not everyone likes the same settings.

I don't really enjoy writing up "after action" summaries of my game playthroughs. Others are more than welcome to this, but I will decline.

Personally itll ruin my first game a bit if someone came in and told me what settings/map/civ i should and shouldnt play.

I we suddenly get 10,000 threads by people describing their first Civ 5 game, I'm outta here.

Hmm, I wouldn't mind them. But with that many, it might be an idea to have a separate sub-forum.

While it may be "exciting" for each of us individually to play for the first time ... it would be dreadfully awful to endure hearing a thousand other people talk about theirs.

I put this idea in the same classification as the old cliche of going over to a friends house for dinner and then having to endure an hourlong slide show of their last vacation, complete with 75 pictures of "Little Jimmy" doing (supposedly) cute things.

In other words ... bzzzt.

p.s. Is anyone really going to play their first game (or even their first ten games?) all the way to completion, anyway? That is NOT how you start to play games like Civ that have steep learning curves!

What do u mean by completion? Fulfill a victory condition? Probably not. Go thru the tech? Most likely

The first game is actually probably the worst as you have no clue what you're doing and your strategy is most likely to be sub-par. I think that's the case with most "firsts". ;)

Sure it is.
But that's not really for what these games are for, when you write here about it.
It's for showing the community the new game, because many people will probably hesitate to get it directly, and everyone wants to know the details.

I'm sure, that we'll see some stories directly in the first days (okay, i'm sure for the german forum). If i remember it correctly, when Colonization was released, Bello has made directly at the first day a story, and it was read by many users.
It gives you a good impression, how the game will be. Not only partially from graphics and mechanics, also how another experienced user sees it, what problems he has compared to the older games, and which you can avoid then.
that this game will probably not successful doesn't really matter at this point.

True, I doubt I'll actually finish my first civ 5 game

I'm gonna play it right to the end and enjoy every last wooden sword Monty smashes my noob head in with. Fun first for me, learning curves can come much later :D

:rotfl: good one

When Civ V comes out, I don't expect to be here anymore, I'll be busy glued to my computer trying to decided If I should research Iron working or Alphabet next....

probably not going to post my info. I generally don't post summaries of my games, as I doubt anyone is all that interested in my game. I'm not an elite player by any means. Just an average player. So I doubt anyone cares.

Every so often I'll give a wrap up of my game if I ask a question in the strategy section. I did this with a strategy question I asked in Civ4 ROM mod. I ended up figuring out how to defeat the enemy myself anyways, but I wrapped up the game in case anyone was interested. You never know, maybe I helped a player not as good as me. Just seemed to make sense to bring that thread to conclusion.

But I see no need to post my first time. It's not like I talk about my other "first time" either.

For example, in the first game you probably don't know which buttons to press and what effect they have.
