This is just ridiculous. I start a game, found my city, move my warrior, pick my tech to research and hit the end turn button. This is what pops up:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there supposed to be something to prevent civs from starting this close together? I know there was in Civ 3. Did they forget to add it in Civ 4?

Huge. That's what makes it even worse.

[EDIT]

I also just used the Play Now option instead of Custom Game so there are 10 AI civs in the game.

Maybe try playing with less civs?

On the plus side, maybe you could get lucky and knock him out quick with a couple of warriors and add another nice city really easily. :)

Huge Map, 10 civs, I can't get any bigger and any less civs would allow for too much expansion, IMO.

Wait till he sends out his first worker (they usually don't defend them) and grab it. Sure you'll be in war, but you will have hurt him bad.

Or you could go all out military and do an early rush. Even at the higher difficulties the AI doesn't seem to defend against the rush well enough.

I had the same case in the start of my current game. I started as the Romans and I was blocked by the English (Victoria :p ) from the north...I waited a number of turns until I was able to create Axemen. Eventually I sent 2 Axemen units near the English only city and awaited there for reimforcements of more units from another city. I attacked their city and then my blocking problem was solved :D .
