They should have picked Semiramis

Reasons why
1. Female leader
2. Enormous amount of folklore surrounding her
3. First person to murder someone through poisoning slowly
4. Invented the chastity belt

to sum it up, she like Assyrian assassin queen. If she's your friend she's a rose, but if you make her angry you will learn she also has thorns.

Quick Faq:

1. Q: Why put her in over that other derp.
A: Boobs

Ashurbanipal is probably the most famous Assyrian leader of all time. He founded the Great Library at Nineveh, he had tremendous success with the Assyrian military. He personified the cruelty that is Assyrian conquest.

I think there are flaws with him as a leader, but he deserves far more serious consideration than Semiramis based on the arguments you've made.

What about Sargon II?

I could see Sargon II, although people could confuse him with Sargon of Akkad. I've also made the argument for Tiglath-Pileser, but he has problems when it comes to ease of pronunciation. Really, both, plus Ashurbanipal, are all good choices.

Never heard of Ashurbanipal before Firaxis Panel. I don't really pay attention to these stuff though I do like history. Don't know where ya'll know all of these stuff...

My knowledge on Assyria is extremely limited, so I have little to say particularly on this topic, but to a neutral - "Ashurbanipal" seems just as hard to say as Tiglath-Pileser.

Maybe its jumping a little, but don't think easy to pronounce was a criteria in picking him.

Well, I used to read a pretty decent about the Assyrian Empire. I even tried to make a scenario about the Assyrian Empire for Civ3. I ended up with a cool map and I got someone else to make a leaderhead for me that's on the forum somewhere, but the scenario never really got beyond the idea stage aside from that.

Semiramis would be good, but Sargon or Tiglath-Pileser would be better. Ashurbanipal was the second last king before Assyria was crushed, while his actions sent Assyria to its largest expanse, he also sowed the seeds of Assyria's downfall.

Ashurbanipal is probably the most well-known Assyrian king. If I remember correctly, there is a famous relief depicting him hunting a lion from a chariot.

Its a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it.

But seriously, he reigned for 41 years! more than twice that of Tiglath-Pileser

He is also the reason we have most of our knowledge of ancient Mesopotamia, because of his library. Without him, we would have no knowledge of the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Enuma Elish, or any of the other great works of early civilization. Alexander got the idea for the Alexandrian library once he saw the library of Nineveh.

I wonder if Assyria will have some sort of science bonus in the game as a result. Maybe they get a free warrior with each military tech they research, or some such?

As I said in the Assyria thread, I hope not. Asyrria was a great millitary power that crushed so many states, so many times. If it had a scientific bonus it'd be too close to babylon for my likings. Ashurbanipal needs a unique, powerful millitary based UA.

Sexy.

I was hoping Firaxis had shot their bolt over slobbering fan service leaderheads with Theodora. It's like they think their entire fanbase is made up of sex starved basement virgins or something...

Hey, but if we do get Vietnam maybe we can have the Trung sisters as Civ's first Asian female duo leaderhead :goodjob:

But the good news is that, with three out of nine leaders known, it'll be a bit easier to guess the other ones since they will try to balance out the sexes =)

Or Firaxis is already don't care about gender equality and pick all leaders with manly beard.. [pimp]

Little secret: very very few over here really know all this stuff, wich is ok, but they sure like to pretend, wich is aggravating. It's mostly Wikipedia. Check it out on Wikipedia in case you don't know what that is.
