Things I like about Civ 1

I play Civ 2, and I do enjoy it. I like the graphics {I HATE the graphics on Civ2 TOT}
and I like the expanded diplomacy and extra civs and wonders.

However....there are a few things I miss from Civ 1.

I know it may sound silly...but I miss the opening music and prologue.

I also liked when I built a new city improvement, seeing the building appear with that synthesizer sound.

It may be weird, but I liked those little things.

Does anyone know what files {or kind of files} those sounds and the opening music are in? And is there anysoftware that would let me convert them to WAV format?

Another thing...

I liked the flowing water animation in the rivers and aqueducts and such.

I liked the music from Civ 1 also. As soon as a get another computer going with a good sound card, I am going to sound capture everthing from Civ 1.

I have no idea which files carry the sound files, could be the .exe files or .pal files...who knows...but you would need some way to decode and hack into those files just to find out.

I am working on a Civ 1 patch for Civ 2. Thanks to TTG, I have my screen capture program working and I am hard at work capturing all the parts I need. Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to capture and add the sounds yet for the first release of the Civ 1 patch, so you will probably have to wait until ver 2.0 to get the sounds.

I have the civilization music in a .mod file but I can only start it in Winamp. Do you want it?

Hey if you reading this Thunderfall, it would be nice if I could attach the music file to my message here!<IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/smilies/cwm12.gif" border=0>

Sweden! The number one contry in the world!

I also liked the city view screen, it still exists in Civ2 but.... It sucks.

I don't like how slow the units move in Civ1 tho (I use "fast piece slide" in Civ2).

they move even slower in tot! i hate it! the city view screen $ucks too!

This TOT sounds quite ****

/me hugs his original, made in 1996, copy of Civ2

me hugs it also, its just i have windows me, so i had to upgrade

Hey Håkan Eriksson:

PLEASE SEND ME THE SOUNDS!

If I'd have known earlier I could have incorporated them in my Civ1 modpack...but that's ok...I can still use them for a future version.

Thanks!

John

Ah.....the good old days. I feel like turning on my 486 and playing Civ now.

I just got Call To Power 2 today.

I haven't played TOT or CTP 1. So does TOT have the city view screen or not? What's so crap about it? It surely has to be better than the one in Civ 1? Even though the one in Civ 1 is good I was just saying that since Civ 2 is the sequel, I thought that it would be better.

I loved the feeling you get when you see the Wonders, that you waited so long to build, in your city.

in tot for ths city view screen, it zooms in, and there are several different windows that pop up. it doesnt tell you anything about corruption or all dat other truck. i like the civ 1 screen better. in civ2 it was just about the same.

I also liked how your citizens throw a parade for you when they are happy. I don't know if that's in TOT.

Stellar:
TOT show corruption, etc. All you do is click on the panel that shows net food, taxes, etc. and a more detailed version comes up, showing the food eaten, the corruption, the waste, etc.

I wan't a city view screen that show all the buildings, improvements, like in civ1. In civ1, they showed the actual closeup of the city, and showed the citizens standing in front of it. Also, when you conquered it, it showed troops going through the city. WHen there was civil disorder, it showed mobs marching through the city. I like all of those, but the took them out in TOT.

I also like how when you talk to a civ, their leader comes up, plus their ministers, etc. I can't believe they took all those out in TOT!

TOT is not as good as MGE, and it costs more! I wasted 50 bucks!

I like just about everything in Civ I. It balances complexity and simplicity. Playability and size. Some games don't play nearly as well, and take up many hundred megabytes. One thing bad about CivII is that it did not balance Playability and size. It's many times larger than Civ II, and only plays a bit better.

I like everything in Civ1 (which is not true for Civ2...) but only ONE thing. Its addiction. Why why why, Sid Meier, have you destroyed work, nights and even lifes of thousands (millions?) of innocent players with you drug? It's not a game it's a drug. This exception spotted, I repeat, everything's perfect in Civ1. And I think it was an error to change 2d graphics into isometric in Civ2.

BTW, R, I said that somewhere in another post, if you enjoy Civ soundtrack like me, just let me know. I can probably help you (to get deeper and deeper in the addiction )

Yes... addicitive... Can't stop playing...

That was indeed an error. I was thinking about how it could be instead, in future versions, when we're retired and can play full-time. Think about actually having a real globe, that nicely and easily spinned to the right place where the city or unit is. That would look great, a lot better than the skew perspective they choose for civ2.

Try to figure out how to have the the sqares on a globe...

I hereby let you know. I really like it, please send me an email !
