I see it now! Gimli would be proud. :goodjob:

My family came form Norge, which has legends of trolls. My family had legends of killing trolls, with axes.

Here I am, practicing toll hunting:

As you can see, trolls are a high calorie diet.

Is that Texas:)

Finally having tamed the upload system, and having illustrated part of why trolls reingeth not at CFC, I like to again thank MantaRevan for his kind words about the community, civility, and atmosphere at CFC, which, at least sometimes, allows for productive discussions. Such is Thunderfall's intent for his house of civilization. Members should also notice, stickied at the top of OT, our second survey about improving the Off Topic Forum.

I do enjoy this place as well. Although I'll say I'm not nearly as smart as you guys, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy intelligent discussion. Sometimes I'll start a thread about something I'm interested in just to see any intelligent discussion that comes out of it. Sometimes I like to post history questions or what-ifs. Even though I don't know that much about history, I am very interested in it, and like to learn. I have a thirst for knowledge. Unfortunately I forget almost as much stuff as I learn. I would like to post in the history forum again, but I got flamed one time there because my knowledge of history isn't that great. That's why my threads there were questions, so I can learn more. I don't claim to have any authority over any one subject. I know a little about a lot of subjects, but I don't know a lot about any one subject.

I agree. That is one critical problem, if you don't know 100% what you're talking about, you can be flamed.

I would hope that the discussion is healthy and doesn't result in flaming. Sometimes, people in the history forum correct each other aggressively, though, so I would hope that it doesn't come across too personally.

Well dressed, well-mannered trolls, apparently.

This. While on the exterior the WH subforum may seem like a rather unforgiving place, it's actually a pretty nice place. Sure sometimes corrections come down hard, but you really shouldn't take it personally. If anything it helps me remember the fact better for the future. The regulars at WH like Dachs and Lord_Baal are actually super friendly and just want you to get better at history. The only thing that isn't welcomed in WH is people who aren't willing to admit their wrong and learn from those who are better researched in a topic, or people who just start threads exclusively about one topic over and over again (which I would say is true of all subforums, at least for me.

Don't worry, everyone gets Dachs'ed eventually. It's almost a right of passage. :)

I feel like our trolls are more highly educated than our sensible posters.
Who's the highest educated poster in this forum?

Maybe a better phrasing is "I feel like our trolls are more intellectual and less civil than our sensible posters."

And highly educated? I'm sure there are a bunch of PhD's, and several lawyers. Plenty of people in academia and research oriented fields. I know Mark1031 (I think those are the right numbers) is a professor of neuroscience, if memory serves.

I'm finishing an MA in literature and will be starting a PhD next year. But nobody outside the field takes that seriously, so I'll just go sit in the corner by myself. :(
