Had a few thought would like comments on.

A strategy I have used in the early game is building a wonder in the knowledge I probably won't complete it first when I am short on cash and therefore tech gain. When the cash comes in from the failed build the tech % goes back up and you can catch up a bit. If you get the wonder then what the hell. Does anyone else use this and is it viable in monarch level.

game speed. have always played on epic and for no particlular reason other than habit from when started playing. having just started using the next fastest, slowest speed can't remember what it is as am not loaded up have noticed this may be a tad easier at the start. As units are quicker to build but unit movement is the same there is more reactivity in the early game such as s**t here comes an archer better stop the barracks and build an arhcer and sacrafice pop with slavery to ensure city does not go down. Am I deluded as I didn't notice this was as doable on epic, could just be me being silly.

As you point out, the advantage is getting extra gold that you can use to fund your research. The downside, however, is that your city isn't building anything useful. You're passing up getting a Granary, Settler, Worker, Unit, etc for some gold. Generally speaking, I find I have other priorities in the early game than keeping research at 100% - not that it's bad to do so, but it's bad to do so at the expense of other areas. I would rather put that production towards a military to take out an opponent, for example, than go for money.
